TASTING NOTES 2013 IMPOSTER SAUVIGNON BLANC SEMILLON
TASTING NOTES 2013 IMPOSTER SAUVIGNON BLANC SEMILLON The Evolution Range The wines in this range are intended to be approachable styles of wine that are ideally suited to casual get-togethers and offer exceptional value for money. Whilst drinking well upon release they still have great aging potential and follow the Hemera Estate principle of ‘Intensity, Structure and Elegance’. Fruit driven and full of flavour these wines over deliver on quality. Vintage Conditions The 2013 vintage saw very low rainfall in the winter and spring leading up to fruit ripening. This resulted in small berry and bunch formation and the commencement of vintage early than the average. The smaller berries produced intense flavours in all varieties and slightly higher than normal sugar levels at harvest. The resultant wines have pure varietal flavours and excellent mouth-feel and length to the palate. Winemaking Once the grapes have been identified to be of optimum ripeness the parcels are brought into the winery where they are gently crushed into the air bag press. Only the ‘free-run’ juice and the earliest stages of the pressing cycle are used in this wine as they contain the purest fruit flavours. The fermentation took place at the cool temperature of 10-14 degrees for maximum fruit retention. Carefully blending of the separate wines occurs just after the fermentation. Tasting Evaluation The ‘Imposter’ is blend of aromatic and delicate Sauvignon Blanc, melded with the intensity and richness of Semillon. This provides a lifted aroma displaying tropical fruits, gooseberries and citrus. The palate abounds with lemon curd, lychees and fresh mandarins with persistent length and the Semillon providing a luscious mid palate to support the abundant fruit flavours.
