Everyone at Spirit of Hope is a Minister of the Gospel
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your acts of

The mission of the United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ

GREETING AND WELCOME
Pastor Jeff Hansen
As we join in the Ministry of Presence, please sign and pass the forms along the pew and then pass them back paying attention to
those around you. Another way of attending to each other is to fill out a yellow prayer concern/joy card and placing it in the offering
plate. You are welcome to do that.
TIME OF SINGING
My Jesus I Love Thee
My Jesus I love Thee I know Thou art mine. For Thee all the follies of sin I resign.
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou, if ever I loved Thee my Jesus 'tis now.
I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me. And purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree.
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow, if ever I loved Thee my Jesus 'tis now.
Shout to the Lord
My Jesus, my Savior, Lord there is none like You, all of my days, I want to praise, the wonders of Your mighty love.
My comfort, my shelter, tower of refuge, and strength, let every breath, all that I am, never cease to worship You.
Chorus
Shout to the Lord all the earth let us sing, power and majesty praise to the King.
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar, at the sound of Your name.
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands, forever I'll love You, forever I'll stand.
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You.
Open Our Eyes
Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus, to reach out and touch Him, and say that we love Him.
Open our ears, Lord, and help us to listen, open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus.
Open our hearts, Lord, that we might receive You, open our spirits, and teach us to worship.
Open our lips, Lord, and teach us to praise You, open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus.

An asterisk * indicates to please stand, as able, to the Glory of God
Light print for the leader and bold print for the congregation
Open hearts,
Open minds,
Open doors. That’s us, right?
Right. But that’s a lot of open, unguarded space.
Seems rather dangerous.
Yes. It does, doesn’t it?
*HYMN OF PRAISE
O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing
No. 57

*OPENING PRAYER
Hear him, you deaf! His praise, you speechless, your loosened tongues employ (even on this Labor Day
weekend!)…
You who can’t see, look! Your savior comes! And you, who struggle to walk, dance joyously!
Loving One, it seems that the arrival of this Christ,
Whom we take for granted and assume is always around and available,
Changes things dramatically! Causes the most unexpected responses–
In the most unlikely people!
And calls, challenges, stirs, inspires even us
To do things we know we just can’t! Seriously?! God, help us, in Christ! Amen.

MESSAGE:
“We Never Close”
Pastor Jeff Hansen
Jesus gave the people strict orders not to tell anyone. But the more he tried to silence them, the more eagerly
they shared the news. Mark 7:36
THE RESPONSE
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
*OFFERING THANKS AT THE TABLE
The God of all be with you!
And also with you!
Lift up your hearts!
We lift them up to God!
Let us give thanks to God together.
It is good to offer our thanks and praise.
(Please remain standing as a prayer of thanks is offered, joining in response…)
“…and filled with a rich sense of the hopeful future we all share, we say together:”
Thanks and glory be to you, God of all!
(You may be seated for the remainder of the prayer, joining again in the response)
“But in his rising your validation of his word and life becomes a resounding proclamation, one that echoes down through
time, reaching our ears and hearts this very day:”
Christ has died! Christ is Risen! Christ is present here!
3
(The prayer continues and concludes…)
“…we offer our thanks and this prayer together in the name and spirit of Jesus,”
*THE PRAYER JESUS TEACHES
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it
is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
SHARING THE BREAD AND CUP
As United Methodists we celebrate an open table, understanding that Christ invites everyone to his table. You are invited then to
come forward, receive a piece of bread, dip it in the cup (the formal word for this is intinction), and eat. The offering plates are in
place for any gift you may wish to offer. If you have a prayer request you may fill out a yellow prayer card and place it in the plate as
well. Relax. Enjoy this simple meal as a way of communing with God and each other, in the Spirit of the Risen Christ.
*CLOSING PRAYER
You open your doors to us, God, your table, your heart, your very self, and share all that you have and are.
May your Spirit break us open to receive all whom we encounter, and share with them the richness of your
life and love, as we know it ourselves, in Jesus’ name and spirit. Amen.
THE SENDING
*CLOSING SONG
Oh, I Know the Lord’s Laid His Hands on Me
(vss. 1, 2, & 4
4
*A BLESSED SENDING
And at that touch, I am wide open,
To all that God will do and give and create and set free, through me!
Amen! So may it be! God send you, the Spirit fill you, Christ go with you and you with Christ, always and
everywhere! Amen! God bless. Go in peace. Amen.
CLOSING MUSIC

OUR NEW YOUTH DIRECTOR
Hi everyone! My name is David Hodd. I'm 24 years old, I am attending North Central University for a
degree in Biblical and Theological Studies, and I live in a townhouse in Savage. In the photo is my
girlfriend Amy who is an art teacher in the Minnetonka school district. I was called into ministry when
I was fourteen years old at a church camp in Park Rapids called STORM Camp, which I now serve as a
leader in. After a long journey through faith God has called me to Spirit of Hope to serve as a youth
leader. Previously I had managed a McDonald's and I am just finishing up a summer pastoral
internship through the United Methodist Church called The Eli Project. I love serving others and
believe that God has called me to Spirit of Hope for a reason. I am excited to serve the youth and everyone else at Spirit of
Hope! See you in church!

Sanctuary Choir is open to students in 9th grade through
adults. Choir will have its first rehearsal on Wednesday,
September 16, at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary and will sing for the
first time this season on September 20. We will be continuing
our schedule of rehearsing weekly on Sundays from 9-9:30 a.m.
with the intent of singing that particular Sunday. Occasional
Wednesday evenings are scheduled throughout the fall in order
to get a head start on anthems to make Sunday mornings
easier. Additional scheduled rehearsals: October 21;
November 11 &18; December 2 & 9.
Our Community
PRISM – is our local food shelf and has asked the church
partners to contribute specific items throughout the year for the
food shelf. Donate food to our food pantry like these: hygiene
and cleaning products; personal care products, including ethnic;
Foods for special diets, i.e. low salt or gluten free.
NOTE: If you, or somebody you know, has special dietary
needs, many of our patrons have that same need.
You are welcome to participate in any of our ensembles on a
short-term basis and not feel as though you must make a yearlong commitment. The ability to match pitch is the only
requirement for the participation in the choir, and we promise
many things: free voice lessons as part of the rehearsals,
sharper performance skills, fellowship with others and the
opportunity to nurture and offer your gifts as part of worship!
You may also make a money donation to PRISM. Be sure to
clearly mark PRISM on your offering envelope or on the memo
line of your check. If you would like a PRISM envelope, see an
usher or get one from the Kiosk
