This northern summit provides climbers with some exciting ascent/descent variations, including unique passages with a cave ) hole (Eagle eye and, of course, sensational mountain landscape and formations along the way. www.engelberg.ch/viaferrata ENGELBERG-TITLIS TOURISMUS SOMMER NEWS 2015 THREE NEW KIDS‘ COURSES IN ROPE PARK ENGELBERG Rope Park Engelberg, located at the end of the Engelberg valley, opens its doors from May to October to action-hungry nature-lovers seeking exciting heights and treetop adventures. This summer, families with small children will find the park - with its three new courses for 4+year olds—quite attractive for their little ones. Designed to include special safety equipment the courses incorporate varied themes that offer youngsters an exciting educational experience. www.seilpark-engelberg.ch GLOBI'S ALPINE PLAYGROUND 25 May 2015 celebrates the grand opening of the new "Globi’s Alpine Playground" at the summer bobsled run up on Ristis! JUNE 2015 Over rocky terrain, across ice cold rivers, through chasms and along barbed wire fences - the FISHERMAN’S FRIEND Strongmanrun demands not only physical strength from the participants, but mental stamina as well! The extremely demanding course takes runners through the mountainous heart of Central Switzerland, including Hahnen and Mount Titlis as part of the scenery. Guaranteed to be an extraordinary event! www.strongmanrun.ch TITLIS ICE FESTIVAL; 12 JULY 2015 The fun-packed snow festival for big and small! On Sunday, 12 July 2015, activities and events will include glacier crevasse abseiling, hikes to Gross-Titlis, a treasure hunt using avalanche search equipment, and much more. Children accompanied by a parent can ride up to TITLIS for free. Adults pay half-price. www.titlis.ch FOLK MUSIC CONCERTS; JULY AND AUGUST For years the Folk Music Concert series has been a part of Engelberg’s cultural program in the summer. Numerous folk music fans converge at the park pavilion every week in order to enjoy the sounds of traditional music groups. Concerts take place in the Kursaal if the weather is inclement. www.engelberg.ch/events JAZZ IN THE VILLAGE; JULY AND AUGUST Warm summer evenings, a glass of fine wine, and the sound of jazz... Performances will take place every Friday evening as part of the‚ "Jazz in der Dorfstrasse" music program, which attracts jazz lovers summer after summer. This year’s program includes another great line-up of musical groups that will play at various venues around town, once again pleasing the crowds with their mellow sounds. www.engelberg.ch/events RUGGHUBEL MOUNTAIN RUN ENGELBERG; 23 AUGUST 2015 The Rugghubel Mountain Run will take place for the 24th time, this year on 23 August 2015. Over the years this race has gained quite a name in the runners’ scene. 160 athletes will take on the scenic, nonetheless challenging stretch up the mountain, supported by a crowd of 1,000 spectators. The Rugghubel Mountain Run course is second to none with its impressive mountain backdrop. The race starts near the gates of the monastery (elevation 1,286 m) and ends at the Rugghubel Lodge (elevation 2,296 m) www.berglauf-engelberg.ch ENGELBERG-TITLIS TOURISMUS SOMMER NEWS 2015 TITLIS BERGTROPHY; 8 AUGUST 2015 Starting at Engelberg’s Talstation (base station), you’ll hike to the top, ascending 2,000 m to Gross-Titlis, which is situated at 3,238 m above sea level. The experience of it all - not the stopwatch - will be what counts! www.titlis.ch/en ALPINE HIT MUSIC FESTIVAL; AUGUST 2015 The Alpine Hit Music Festival has established itself in Engelberg up at Ristis and now appears annually in the line-up of summer musical events for Central Switzerland. Expect fabulous performers and a great atmosphere up at Ristis! www.brunni.ch/en/events GUESTIVAL – EVENING HIKE & DINNER UP ON BRUNNI During the summer months an evening hike will take place once a month up on the Brunni side of Engelberg. Hike along Brunnipfad Trail accompanied by the president of SAC Engelberg. Afterwards at the Brunnihütte Lodge the lodge team will serve you delicious specialties from the table grill. If you wish, take a barefoot walk along the Kitzelpfad (=”Tickle Path”) and relax your feet before you hike back down to Ristis. Of course you can always say good-bye to the rest of the group at Lake Härzlisee and spend the night at the SAC lodge. www.brunni.ch/en/events www.brun ENGELBERG-TITLIS TOURISMUS SOMMER NEWS 2015 TITLIS TITLIS (ELEVATION 3,020 M) For a unique and exciting experience, take a ride to the top of Mount TITLIS on the TITLIS ROTAIR, the first revolving aerial cable car in the world. A spectacular 360° panoramic view awaits you at the top of this glacial world. The Ice Flyer chairlift will transport you over deep crevices to the TITLIS Glacier Park, where visitors big and small can experience all sorts of sliding fun. And don’t miss out on a visit to the newly renovated Glacier Cave. www.titlis.ch/en/glacier TITLIS CLIFF WALK – HERZKLOPFEN IN LUFTIGER HÖHE 3,041 meters above sea-level. 500 meters off the ground. 150 heartpounding steps. This is what awaits you on the TITLIS Cliff Walk, the spectacular suspension bridge high up on the summit. To cross the bridge, you'll need nerves as strong as the steel cables from which it hangs. On arriving at the summit, the route leads you through an underground tunnel and on to the viewing platform at the south wall window. The suspension bridge stretches from here to the ICE FLYER glacier chair lift station. The TITLIS Cliff Walk is just one meter wide and 100 meters long. The views into the abyss below are breathtaking! The TITLIS Cliff Walk holds the record for being the highest suspension bridge in Europe. Entry to the Cliff Walk is free of charge. www.titlis.ch/en/cliffwalk TITLIS GLACIER CAVE This glacier cave forms the frosty heart of TITLIS. The ice here was frozen long before prehistoric man discovered how to make fire using pyrite. The cave's 150-metre-long walkway branches out in several directions and descends 20 meters below the surface of the glacier. Climbing paths, awesome playscapes, a summer bobsled run, and "Härzlisee" - a man-made lake with a great view of Mount Titlis - are just a few of the attractions there. For those seeking real challenge, there are exciting climbing routes and hiking trails with spectacular views. The modern day activities of the monks grew out of the essential needs of the locality: education (Stiftsschule), pastoral duties, crafts and handiwork, cultural, agricultural and environmental development and maintenance. In all of these areas, the monks - as well as the other men and women who work in the monastery - have had a hand. The Benedictine Monastery of Engelberg offers public tours year round to visitors and guests. (Mondays through Saturdays, no tours Sundays or holidays.) Tours last about one hour, and highlights include the Baroque Hall, the guest refectory, the ‚Room of Virtues’ with its exquisite inlaid woodwork done by Br.
