UGloss-AF is applied to seal in the flakes and provide chemical resistance and UV stability. Ultralife is also an excellent resurfacer for damaged floors that do not require heavy compressive strength. RECOMMENDED USES: This system is primarily used for those applications where coatings must exhibit superior resistance to heavy foot traffic and physical impact. UltraLife is noted for outstanding abrasion resistance, structural integrity, and superior adhesion characteristics. Not Recommended For: High temperature applications such as metal torching and cutting facilities. Due to the self-leveling characteristics of the product, use is restricted to horizontal surfaces. Materials Required To create an UltraLife finish, you will need the following UCoat It floor coating materials: UCoat water-based epoxy (any color) — enough for two coats of material over the entire area. UGloss-AF solvent-based urethane (clear) — enough for at least two coats of material over the entire area. Note: the flakes will tend to ‘soak-up’ more material than usual, so coverage rates will be less than normal. (add 20%). UFlek vinyl flakes (any color) — enough for approximately 6x the normal application for UFlek-AF finishes. This is generally 6 UFlek jugs for every 576 sq.ft. Step 1 - Preparation 1. Read and understand the standard UCoat and UGloss-AF instructions that are included with those kits. Review the Installation video (DVD) included with your UCoat Kit. Pay particular attention to floor preparation instructions. 2. Make sure you have the required coating material on hand according to the checklist above. It is always better to have excess than to run short. UGloss-AF is a solvent-based product and therefore must be sent via standard ground shipping. This can delay your project and might require sanding of the floor to continue application. 3. Follow the detailed preparation instructions starting on page 3 of your UCoat Customer Instruction Manual under the heading: Getting Ready to UCoat It. Good floor preparation is required and is the key to creating a beautiful, lasting floor! Date Revised: 07/2012 Step 2 - UCoat Bond Coat Apply your UCoat bond coat directly to a damp, wet floor according to the standard UCoat Installation instructions. However, do not apply the UTex (aluminum oxide) anti-slip sand as this will be applied later. If you desire to use the UTex, save the container(s) and put them aside for now. Allow the UCoat bond coat to dry a minimum of 4 to 6 hours. Step 3 - Floor Repairs (optional) If you are using floor-repair materials such as UPatch, UClad or UFill you will apply these between the UCoat bond and finish coats according to their instructions after the bond coat has completely dried. Please refer to those instructions for more details. Step 4 - UCoat Finish Coat (1st application of UFlek flakes) When your floor is completely dry and tack-free begin applying your UCoat finish coat. For this coat, you will apply approximately 1/2 of the UFlek flakes on top of the finish coat as you roll it out. To do this,UFlek-AF vinyl flakes are hand “broadcast” onto the surface of the UCoat “finish coat” while it is still wet. This is done by tossing small handfuls of loose flakes up into the air over the wet coated floor as it is completed in small (4-5 foot square) sections. The flakes should be distributed evenly as lightly or as heavily as you choose for your desired look. Continue this until the entire area is coated. Generally speaking, the flakes should have the appearance of being about 1/2 as dense as the final finish will look. Let this coat dry for about 12 hours, however do not wait more than 36 hours, before applying the next coat. Step 5 - UGloss-AF 1st Coat (2nd application of UFlek flakes) After you have allowed your UCoat finish coat to cure about 12 hours, begin to apply your first UGloss-AF clear coat according to the standard instructions, however, you will apply a second layer of UFlek vinyl flakes on top of the UGlossAF clear coat as you roll it out. As you did in the previous step, you will again hand “broadcast” UFlek vinyl flakes onto the surface of the UGloss-AF coat while it is still wet. This is done by tossing small handfuls of loose flakes up into the air over the wet coated floor as it is completed in small (4-5 foot square) sections. Continue this until the entire area is coated. The flakes should be distributed evenly as lightly or as heavily as you choose for your desired look — this will be your last application of UFlek flakes. Allow your floor to dry for a minimum of 12 hours, however do not wait more than 36 hours to apply the next coat. Step 6 - Final UGloss-AF Clear Coat After you have allowed your first UGloss-AF clear coat to cure about 12 hours, begin to apply your final UGloss-AF clear coat according to the standard instructions, This will be the final coat so be careful to cover all areas to properly seal the UFlek vinyl flakes into the floor. The UGloss-AF clear coat can sometimes be difficult to see while applying — take care to coat all areas. Allow the final coat to cure for 48 hours before allowing foot traffic or items being moved onto the surface. Step 7 - Enjoying your new UltraLife floor! After your final coat has cured for 48 hours, you can to begin to move items back onto the surface. Although the coating will be dry to the touch, it has not reached full chemical cure which takes approximately 7 to 10 days. Be careful when moving items as the top coat film will not be at it’s full hardness and is more likely to scratch during this time. Also take care to prevent chemical interactions with the clear coat until the material reached full chemical cure — this includes cleaning chemical spills immediately (or preventing them entirely) and placing a small piece of cardboard or carpet underneath rubber tires (including automobiles, lawn tractors, dollies, etc.) for this initial period of 7 to 10 days.
