As a fiscal sponsor for both Active Charitable Programs and Donor Advised Funds, we facilitated fundraising efforts in excess of $11,000,000. Those funds were raised in a myriad of ways by approximately 3,346 volunteers. These volunteers represent our more than 300 programs located in 43 states and the District of Columbia. In fact, more than $4.4 million dollars was distributed to various charitable endeavors all over the world, with much more to come! We are very proud of the great work our programs and their volunteers do in support of many different charitable purposes. They include educational scholarships and programs, faith-based initiatives, youth sports and child athletics/wellness, orphans assistance, disaster relief, shelter and family assistance, and medical research and provision programs. Our mission is to enable those with philanthropic intent to have an appropriate vehicle to realize those hopes and dreams. None of this, of course, is possible without our superb administrative staff. Collectively, our staff has had more than 100 years of experience in philanthropy. It is their cooperative passion that drives our mission, and their individual expertise and knowledge that makes it possible for those 3,346 volunteers to act on their passions and dreams and try to make our globe a better place to laugh, live, and love — for everyone! Each of our programs has available to it many services to accomplish their purpose. From online fundraising capabilities and social media presence to good old-fashioned best-practices advice, there is no group of individuals I trust more for assistance. Their can-do attitude and cutting edge insight is truly second to none. I look forward to the coming year, knowing that United Charitable Programs is advancing fiscal sponsorship to an even higher level. New cutting-edge fundraising techniques, more outstanding programs, and such administrative leadership as reduced program insurance for activities to put more dollars to work on philanthropy are already under way! If you have a dream or some cause you are passionate about and you wish to step into the fray, come and talk with us about how easy it can be to live out that passion — and know you are doing it right! To learn more about us, and about fiscal sponsorship, please join us online at www.unitedcp.org, or send us an email at [email protected]. You’ll be glad you did!! Fiscal sponsorship is a formal arrangement in which a 501(c)(3) public charity sponsors a project that may lack exempt status. This alternative to starting your own nonprofit allows you to seek grants and solicit taxdeductible donations under your sponsor’s exempt status. This is exactly how UCP works! UCP is one of the few charities in the United States which offers fiscal sponsorship on a national level, across all charitable missions. That means that charitable projects originating from all over the U.S. can apply for fiscal sponsorship with UCP and work under our umbrella. Fiscal Sponsorship = Instant Infrastructure! Coming under the fiscal sponsor of UCP means that a charitable program can get started right away, with all of our services at the ready: • State Fundraising Solicitation Registrations – UCP maintains all required state registrations so our programs can solicit donations and conduct fundraising wherever they are in the U.S. • Tax Exemption – All of our programs share our nonprofit, tax-exempt status. • Operations – Payroll, benefits, liability insurance, fundraising help, ongoing training, it’s all here! UCP maximizes the technology and tools to help our programs grow. We continue to increase the capability and capacity of our programs by partnering with companies and services on the cutting edge. Our Strategic Partner line-up includes: u Page 8 To find out more about our charitable programs, go to www.UnitedCharitablePrograms.org. Page 35 u Donor-Advised Foundations What are Donor-Advised Foundations? Donor-Advised Foundations (DAFs) are a type of charitable giving program that allows donors to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to support their favorite charitable causes at any time. We have DAFs that have been established to support various charities, both domestic and international. We also have DAFs that have been established to honor a loved one by creating a scholarship program or a memorial in their name. Make charitable giving a part of your family tradition by establishing a Donor-Advised Foundation at UCP. It’s a great way to support your favorite charities, and teach your children the benefits of philanthropy! We worked with our financial advisor to set up a DonorAdvised Foundation at UCP. We love the personal touch UCP staff provides, and how easy we’ve found it is to build our charitable plans along with our financial plans. ~A Donor Advisor of a Family Foundation at UCP Donor-Advised Funds vs Donor-Advised Foundations What’s the Difference? Throughout this Annual Report, you may notice that we refer to donor-advised funds as ‘Donor-Advised Foundations.’ Why? Both a Donor-Advised Fund and a Donor-Advised Foundation ARE THE EXACT SAME THING. However, we prefer to use the term ‘Donor-Advised Foundation’ because we believe that your Foundation at UCP is an extension of your charitable legacy, rather than simply a “fund” to which you would contribute. At UCP, we encourage family involvement! We want to encourage you to use your Foundation as a charitable vehicle to build your own family legacy. You can teach your philanthropic goals and values to your children, and their heirs. Your Foundation at UCP is a flexible way to gain maximum tax deductions at minimal costs. Like a private foundation, a Donor-Advised Foundation at UCP can be used to make tax-deductible donations to be used to fund your family’s philanthropic vision. Unlike a private foundation, however, a Donor-Advised Foundation allows greater tax deductibility, and UCP accepts a wide variety of unique assets. A Foundation at UCP is a much less expensive alternative to a private foundation. u Page 36 To find out more about our Donor-Advised Foundations, go to www.UnitedCharitablePrograms.org. Donor-Advised Foundations Ie magini ng Generosity ReImagined! R Establish a Family and/or Corporate Legacy with a Donor-Advised Foundation at UCP UCP Donor Advised Foundations make it easy to prioritize giving in your business or in your family! Creating a Donor Advised Foundation (DAF) at UCP allows you to focus easily on fulfilling your philanthropic goals without administrative burdens. We go beyond traditional giving by supporting our DAFs to create scholarship programs, memorial foundations; generational succession as well as the more traditional giving to virtually any U.S. based charitable organization. And, with so many citizens whose lineage is from other countries, UCP offers our donors the ability to support many international organizations through their Donor Advised Foundation. y G enerosit We strongly believe that everyone can give, no matter your economic level. That’s why we have very low thresholds to get started with a Foundation at UCP. And, gifts can be recommended to charities for as low as $100. Every dollar counts, no matter the size! Companies Increase Impact in their Communities Companies wishing to help their communities and engage their employees can work with UCP to fund their Organizational Donor Advised Foundation with after-tax automatic payroll deductions from their workforce. Employee advisory committees can then decide where to direct their pooled gifts in keeping with their company’s charitable desires. Company visibility in the community is enhanced; employees feel connected, and most importantly – the collected donations put more dollars to work for those that need it most. UCP manages the entire process so that companies can enjoy the benefits of giving without increasing their costs to do so. Flexible Giving Options Combined with Flexible Investing UCP is not affiliated with any financial institution which allows our donor advisers to choose the company and/or advisor with which they would like to work. We also have a wide array of assets the UCP can accept, and we are willing to work with the financial professional community in a variety of ways to make Charitable Giving part of every financial and estate plan. Families can share in the joy of giving through a Donor-Advised Foundation at UCP! To find out more about our Donor-Advised Foundations, go to www.UnitedCharitablePrograms.org.
