Deacon: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark. ℟: Glory to you, O Lord. Anonymous O Cross! All hail! Sole hope, abide with us now in Thy suffering. HOMILY NICENE CREED I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, (All bow while saying:) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. UNIVERSAL PRAYER ℟: Lord, hear our prayer. 2 OFFERTORY MOTET (11:00) De profundis W. A. Mozart Out of the deep have I called unto thee, O Lord: Lord, hear my voice. O let thine ears consider well the voice of my complaint. If thou, Lord, wilt be extreme to mark what is done amiss: O Lord, who may abide it? For there is mercy with thee: therefore shalt thou be feared. I look for the Lord; my soul doth wait for him: in his word is my trust. My soul fleeth unto the Lord: before the morning watch, I say, before the morning watch. O Israel, trust in the Lord, for with the Lord there is mercy: and with him is plenteous redemption. And he shall redeem Israel from all his sins. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Ps 130 De profundis OFFERTORY CHANT (9:00) De profundis clamavi ad te, Domine: Domine exaudi orationem meam: de profundis clamavi ad te, Domine. Out of the depths have I cried to you, O Lord; Lord, hear my prayer; out of the depths have I cried to you, O Lord. Ps 130:1, 2 INVITATION TO PRAYER Celebrant: Pray brethren, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father. May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church. ℟: SANCTUS Mass Setting II - Lumen Christi Missal, p. 8845 MYSTERY OF FAITH GREAT AMEN SIGN OF PEACE HOLY FAMILY CALENDAR Sunday, November 15 : 33rd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Celebrant: The Peace of the Lord be with you always. 8:00 AM Confessions ℟: And with your spirit. 9:00 AM Mass AGNUS DEI Mass Setting II - Lumen Christi Missal, p. 845 11:00 AM Mass 12:30 PM West Metro Young Adults Father Wilkins Room HOLY COMMUNION Monday, November 16 : SAINT MARGARET OF SCOTLAND; We invite actively practicing Catholics who are properly 8:00 AM Mass SAINT GERTRUDE, VIRGIN disposed to come forward to receive Holy Communion. The three combined choirs of adults and youth will offer a wide variety of Sacred Music and will feature two debuts: the newly formed St. Cecilia Academy for Strings, and Atsuko Schlough, organist. Featuring works by Hovhaness, Harris, Palestrina, Vaughan Williams, Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Viadana, Marenzio, & Fauré. Free admission! A free-will offering will be taken. The past few months have seen a startling rise in the number of church burglaries—including the theft of an entire tabernacle with consecrated hosts in St. Paul and the robberies of four churches in St. Louis Park alone. The police department has asked us to be extra alert and to take every possible security precaution. Starting immediately, the main church will be locked whenever the parish office is closed, including on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons, unless there are events scheduled for the church. We already have security cameras but are also installing an alarm system. The adoration chapel will continue to be open 24/7 but we will implement a number-coded lock for access between 10pm and 6am. Almost every other adoration chapel in the archdiocese already has this security protocol in place. All regularly scheduled nighttime adorers will receive the code. Other parishioners who desire nighttime adoration may request the code from the parish office. ——————–————————————————————–——————————————————— APPEAL FOR ADORERS It is our goal at Holy Family to have at least two adorers present at each hour on the adoration schedule, so that every adorer can have a partner for scheduling back-up and safety during nighttime hours. Please contact Mike Zwack, our Perpetual Adoration coordinator, if you are willing to make an hour’s (or greater) commitment each week, and for information on the other times available: 612.710.5007. ——————–————————————————————–——————————————————— BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE November is a special time to remember our deceased loved ones. Throughout the month of November, the “Book of Remembrance” will be in the front of Church with the names of those who have been buried from Holy Family this past year. You are invited to add the names of your deceased loved ones. ——————–————————————————————–——————————————————— WORKBOOK FOR LECTORS Attention lectors: the 2016 Workbook for Lectors is now available. This series of catecheses is brought to the parish by a team of missionary catechists from the Neocatechumenal Way. This series of talks is for all who would like to rediscover the gift of Christianity, and those whose faith is weak or who have no faith at all. We encourage you to pass this invitation along to the people you know, especially those who are suffering or doubting God’s love. These catecheses take place at 7pm every Tuesday and Thursday in the Church or in Moorman Hall. The meetings last about 1 hour, they are FREE of charge and require no work other than to COME and LISTEN. Free child care is available. The first Early Childhood Education Symposium was held on October 29th at 6:30 P.M. in Kattar Hall. Seventeen people attended and were treated to a lively discussion led by the Holy Family Academy early childhood staff. Highlights included a focus on various strategies and curriculum currently in use, the role of the parent in supporting the efforts of the teachers, and the ways in which young children learn at this stage of development. All of the participants left with a better understanding of what we’re trying to accomplish here at HFA and how their input and collaborative efforts can help us reach our lofty goals. ——————–————————————————————–——————————————————— GREAT BOOKS LIST UPDATE At a recent luncheon for Father Johnson’s reading contest winners, a parent was reminiscing about the hours and hours she spent reading to her children (so many that she could read some of The school year has begun, the parish festival is behind us, and Sugar Plum Days is right around the corner. On October 1st (the feast of the Little Flower) Cardinal Dolan ordained me a deacon in St. Peter’s Basilica, along with 38 of my classmates. The next day Fr. Joseph Johnson said Mass, and I served as deacon and preached for the first time. It is absolutely wonderful to be ordained! Thank you all for your prayers and support. I am especially grateful for the spiritual bouquet you sent me, as well as the very generous gift of money from the Altar and Rosary Society. Please continue to pray for me, especially that I would be a holy and faithful minister of God. My prayers are with you all. Gratefully yours in Christ, Deacon Paul Haverstock Left: Cardinal Dolan ordains Paul Haverstock a deacon on October 1st Above: Deacon Paul greets Pope Francis after assisting at the closing Mass of the Synod Right: Deacon Paul distributes Holy Communion in St. Peter’s Basilica at his ordination Mass Please continue praying for Deacon Paul Haverstock and his classmates as they prepare for their ordination to the Holy Priesthood at the Cathedral of Saint Paul on May 28th. We look forward to hosting his First Mass here at Holy Family the following day to celebrate Corpus Christi. We are also delighted that he was chosen to proclaim the Gospel for Pope Francis at the Closing Mass of the Synod of Bishops in St. Peter's Basilica on October 25th. You can even watch Deacon Paul serving at that Mass on YouTube! Please pray for our other seminarians, especially Nicholas Hagen from our parish (like Deacon Paul, studying for our archdiocese at the Pontifical North American College in Rome) and our teaching parish seminarian Tyler Mattson (studying at the St. Paul Seminary for the Diocese of Sioux Falls). Please pray for the 31 high school ladies who participated in the "Nun Run" this past summer—may they be open to the Holy Spirit showing them their vocation and respond with generous and joyful hearts! Please pray for the members of our parish in religious orders or who live as consecrated virgins. May this Year of Consecrated Life be a time of grace for them and a time for us to recall with gratitude their sacrifices! Please pray for the permanent deacons from our parish or who serve our parish so generously in various ways! Please pray for the 65 young men from all over the archdiocese who attended the recent Operation Andrew dinner with Bishop Cozzens--especially for the nine attendees from Holy Family or who attend daily Mass here! Archdiocesan Prayer for Vocations O God, we earnestly beseech You to bless this Archdiocese with many Priests, Deacons, Brothers, and Sisters who will love You with their whole strength and gladly spend their entire lives to serve Your Church and to make You known and loved. Bless our families; bless our children. Choose from our homes those who are needed for Your work. Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us; pray for our Priests, Deacons and Religious.
