March 13, 2016 - Holy Name of Mary
March 13, 2016 5th Sunday of Lent On their 59th anniversary at Holy Name of Mary Parish the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary continues to serve San Dimas and La Verne and surrounding communities We thank our God each time we think of you and where we pray it is with Joy. JOIN US FOR THE 26TH ANNUAL BENEFIT IN HONOR OF THE CONGREGATION OF THE SACRED HEARTS OF JESUS & MARY FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 2016 AT THE CANDLELIGHT PAVILION Page 2 5th Sunday of Lent March 13, 2016 My dear sisters & brothers, Mis queridas hermanas y hermanos, Please come to our Reconciliation Service March 21, 2016 at 7PM. Forgiveness is not to condone, forget, tolerate, ignore, approve, excuse, minimize, pardon, deny, absolve, reconcile, an invite to hurt again, or surrendering justice. Forgiveness is a decision to not retaliate, exact revenge, seek compensation, or judge. El perdón es una decisión de no tomar represalias, venganza, reclamar una indemnización, juzgar Forgiveness is a decision to…release them, release ourselves, be released. We are all weak, wounded, human beings, full of defects – attempting to survive the difficulties of life and find peace and happiness. A Prayer of Healing We walk with others who hurt and ache, O God. As we do so, keep us closely united with you so that our hearts will always be warm with compassion. We walk with ourselves in our own joys and sorrows. May we look upon our own selves with love, with a belief that we, too, need tending and care. We walk with our families, communities, loved ones, and friends. Our hearts can be closely connected in good times and in bad. May we draw strength from our God and be open to the ways in which God calls us to be there for others. We walk with our world, a world that is filled with pain and grief, with beauty and grandeur. We are all children of the universe. Remind us that who we are and what we do affects our brothers and sisters and the land they walk upon. We walk with wounds yet to be healed. O God, do not let us run from what we need to face. Grant us the courage to let go of whatever keeps us from being healed. Help us to trust you with our lives. We walk with scars that tell of the tough times we have had. Our wounds can be our teachers. O God of wisdom, draw us to quiet times of reflection so that we can see and accept the truths that our wounded times have offered to us. We walk in your presence, God. May our inner vision keep us closely bonded with you. Remind us often that all places and people are a part of the sacred because you dwell there with us. May the memory of our good moments energize us on our dark and weary days. Amen Let us help each other to transform our pain. With my love and prayers for healing, Fr. Rich, SS.CC. Rich, SS.CC. After a moving “thank-you” speech by Debbie Marquez, principal, each child in school came up with a gift or written acknowledgement of how much his presence meant to them whenever they came to the church for mass. John’s current health and other concerns have led him to give up his precious service, but not his love of those he has been involved with for so long. His many other services to the parish through the years are too numerous to count, but we all appreciate the ways he has been active, and continues to be a welcome presence here at Holy Name. John wanted to share his thanks to each of you, not only for the recent celebration, but also for the wonderful relationships he has had with the parish, the school, its staff and students for such a long and rewarding time. Page 7 From the Director of Administration… “Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.” This is how our Gospel Reading from St. John describes Jesus’ immediate response to when the woman accused of adultery is brought before Him. Immediately after this the Lord says, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” In the original Greek the word used for “bent down” literally meant, “stooped down.” The word describes doing something that was considered very humbling; quite likely Jesus was trying to put the woman at ease, to identify with her. Jesus identifies with the woman, and He makes a gesture to let her know that. We often speak of seeing Jesus in others, in treating them in a way that reflects love and caring, not judgment. Blessed Mother Teresa (who will officially become a saint this coming September) once stated, “I see Jesus in every human being. I say to myself, ‘This is hungry Jesus. I must feed Him.’ Or ‘This is sick Jesus who has leprosy and gangrene.’ I serve because I love Jesus.” March 5 & 6, 2016 Weekly Fiscal Year-toDate YTD $ vs Last Year Offertory $29,064 $1,102,414 +$83,928 +8.2% Catholic Relief $3,791 SVDP $10,425 Now that the Winter Shelter is over we kindly ask not to leave clothes in the narthex.
