HOLY WEEK: THE SUMMIT OF THE
CHURCH’S LITURGICAL LIFE
1. EMBRACING THE HOLY WEEK
The Holy Week ceremonies
which begins with the Palm Sunday celebration is not basically
considered and treasured as the “Week of weeks” in the Church’s
liturgical life but also has been presented from the time of the Fathers of
the Church as the most distinctive and privilege time for re-living the
fundamental mystery of our Christian life. In our reflection, we wish to
establish that the Holy Week, its import, diversity and the different
celebrations that unfolds its manifold significance constitutes and
embodies an inexhaustible and holistic spiritual treasure of
the very essence of our Christian life as seen in the life,
suffering, and death of Jesus.
In a single but unique week, the Church re-lives all the
mysteries and actions that define and makes her relevant
for all peoples of every age. These mysteries, which
accompany the Church in her day to day to day to day life,
constitute for us in this Holy Week a reservoir of the entire
Church’s liturgical. As a Week that changed the world, the
Church is offered an opportunity to celebrate with joy and
sense of fulfilment, the institution of the Eucharist which
is the source and summit of our Christian life and
spirituality.
On Holy Thursday, the
2. HOLY THURSDAY
Church celebrates the institution of the Eucharist and the
Priesthood. The Eucharist contains the whole spiritual
good of the Church namely Christ himself, our Pasch (Lumen Gentium
11). Since the Eucharist is ontologically and theologically connected
with the priesthood, in the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, the
institution of the priesthood is commemorated and the life of humility
and holiness is emphasized for those who receive the sacrament of holy
orders.
The giving of himself which Jesus freely did on Holy Thursday is
completed on Good Friday when he offered himself to the eternal Father
via his death on the Cross. The relationship between the Holy Thursday
celebration and the Liturgy of Good Friday goes a long way to show that
each Eucharistic celebration is precisely a continuation of not only what
happened on the Last Supper but also the re-enactment of the sacrifice
of Jesus which took place on the mount of Calvary.
The veneration of the Cross on Good
3. GOOD FRIDAY
Friday is one of the most important moments of the solemn liturgy of
the passion and death of our Lord. In the veneration of the Cross, the
Church does not simply revere an ordinary wood or do we merely
venerate an instrument of death. For us, the Cross provides a context
where we can unite ourselves with all the victims of the different
unbearable situations that tend to redefine the lives of our many brothers
and sisters. On the Cross, these brothers and sisters of Jesus (Mt. 25: 40)
encounter the just One who delivers them from their many troubles (Ps.
32:10). We shall have an opportunity to celebrate the “life Station of the
Cross” with our Teens at 3:00pm on Good Friday. Come and enter into
the mystery of the Passion of Jesus.
The Easter vigil, which in its essence
4. HOLY SATURDAY
commemorates the passage from death to life; from the old to the new
recalls the invitation of the Church to all her children to live a life of
conversion and newness in Christ. With the Easter vigil, new life is
celebrated, hope is restored, and a new era of evangelization and witness
is inaugurated. The readings during the Eastertide will mostly come
from the Acts of the Apostles where the Spirit-filled activities of the
Apostles and the first Christians are highlighted and celebrated not only
from the perspective of their theological imports but in their capacity to
change hearts and make present the salvific mission of Christ.
The basic lessons that we could draw from the ceremonies of this all
important week include: God is at work in our world, the Cross will
continue to be a tree of life, the community in whose life we share is an
important asset in our relationship with God, we are all called to be
witnesses to this Great Event (Acts 1: 8).
May this Holy Week be a Blessed Week for you and your families,
Amen.

Debido a

14. Jesus is Laid in the Tomb. When Jesus was buried in
the cave his friends were afraid that they would never

sadness of Jesus’ mother and Jesus’ friends turned to

THE ALTAR LINEN MINISTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP!
This is a perfect ministry of service for those who cannot attend regular meetings but wish to offer their service for
the benefit of the Holy Mass.
The commitment is open, and the training is simple. Ministry members wash and press the small linens used for mass such as the
pacificators and the corporals. Although the linens are cared for weekly, volunteers are scheduled only 1-2 times per month.
This ministry offers quiet time of serving, in which you can reflect on the goodness of our Lord. If you can do the laundry, you are
qualified! Contact – Judy Oziminski (909)484-7350

Please join us on Holy Saturday, March 26th at 8pm to honor our
Lord Jesus Christ through the Easter Vigil.
