Willits Elementary Charter School Newsletter
Back To School Night! September 25th @ 5:30-‐7 p.m. This is a chance to visit your child’s class, chat with their teachers and visit the Scholastic book-‐fair. The book-‐fair will be on September 20th through the 26th. Parent volunteers should contact the office. Parents are encouraged to come with their child after-‐
school and get all of their back-‐to-‐school reading. We will also gladly accept library book donations. The WECS advisory committee will be meeting the 2nd and 4th Wednesday each month in the 2nd grade classroom. The committee encourages parents to attend. Donation Requests: A refrigerator with a freezer, ice packs, compost buckets, first aid supplies (especially band-‐aids), sharpies, mini whiteboards, floor lamps and umbrellas. Plutarch Willits Elementary Charter School Newsletter (707) 459-‐1400 405 Commercial St, Willits CA 95490 September 11, 2012 WECS would not exist without the herculean efforts of many, many people over the last months and years. We are grateful for the all of the hard work of our volunteers. Each day continues to bring improvements, and we are hopeful that the bulk of the work on our facility will be finished by the end of the week. We now have phones, the internet, a printer and copy machine, and our student information system is up and running. The classrooms are falling into solid rhythms so serious academic work has begun in full force. We are pleased to say we are currently, officially lice-‐free! Thanks so much to our volunteer parents who helped ensure all kids are safe and healthy. We will be doing regular checks this week and in the coming weeks to ensure we stay that way. Ms. Button, our after-‐school director, is offering a M-‐F afterschool program. We rely on donations to fund this program ($1-‐5 a day is suggested). Ms. Button is a certificated teacher, master gardener and has experience in the Montessori Method. For payment and signup info please see Ms. Button after-‐school in the multipurpose room. Ms. Emily has a before school program that starts at 7:45am M-‐F. The suggested donation is $2 a day; breakfast is free or a reduced price to those who qualify for the National Student Lunch Program. If you have any questions stop by the multipurpose room before school. You will receive a letter noting that you have qualified for the free or reduced hot lunch program. Other students will receive periodic statements showing the balance credited (or due) to their account. We appreciate your patience as we work out the kinks in this (and other) systems. We’ll keep working on it. Remember that parents and volunteers must ALWAYS sign in and get a visitor badge at the front office before they go on campus. We want our campus to be as safe as possible and that means that the office must know at all times who is and is not on campus. Parents and community members who would like to volunteer are encouraged to stop by the office to see our list of daily tasks and special projects. Teachers have noticed students bickering over and being distracted by toys. Please keep your child’s toys at home. Please remember to have you child wear shoes that they can run in and clothes that can get dirty as they play and explore in the outdoors. Thank you!
