…The Power of Book Choice!
―Motivation and reading development are fostered when
children are immersed in a book-rich environment,
engaged in interactions with others about books, and
given the responsibility for making decisions about what,
when, and how they read.” 1

Book Clubs Gives Back
ClassroomsCare is a philanthropy-based literacy program that teaches
children the joy of reading and giving. When a class meets our
challenge, Scholastic Book Clubs donates books through our Charity
Partners — up to one million books to children in need!
Scholastic also pairs with The
Pajama Program, a nonprofit
organization that provides pajamas
and books to children who live in
group homes, shelters, foster care,
and orphanages. Last year, we were
able to donate 18,000 pajamas and
books to kids who needed them
most.
Tips for Using Book Clubs in the Classroom!
1. Make opening the Book Box a
classroom event.
6.
Get parents involved – talk about
Scholastic Book Clubs at Back-toSchool Night and in conferences.
7.
3. Lessons run short? Grab a book
from your classroom library and
treat students to a read aloud –
or let them read to one another!
Let your students know that
they’re giving back to the
classroom when they order books.
8.
Reward good behavior by awarding
extra reading time.
4. Participate in the ClassroomsCare
reading challenge.
9.
Use the Book Clubs flyers for a
math lesson.
2. Highlight your favorite authors.
