In the Blink of an Eye…
In the Blink of an Eye… A look at the impact of one tenth of a second in tennis play, before and after Point of Contact training. Meanwhile, her back foot lifts and her kinetic chain begins to break down. 2 Before her training, Maria focused on where she intended to place the shot, rather than the ball itself. Like many tennis players at every level, she falters in this crucial one tenth of a second. 4 After her training, Maria’s laser focus on the ball ensures perfect placement in the sweet spot of her racquet, and an excellent hit. Without training, she’s left with luck of the draw – only a 20% chance! 6 5 That focus is almost as crucial after the hit. Watch untrained Maria’s foot fly off the ground as she falls out of balance. 7 Half a second after the Point of Contact, the impact of Maria’s training is evident. The focused Maria has already recovered, ready for the next shot. The un-focused Maria is still stumbling. With her gaze intac, Maria performs a clean follow through and leaves her feet planted in the original hitting position. Meanwhile, a head shifted Maria’s twisted kinetic chain robs her of balance and agility. 8 Four tenths of a second later, nearly a second after the Point of Contact, untrained Maria finally recovers and prepares for the next shot.
