Commonly referred to as “tailgaters,” these bad apples
are spoiling the barrel. Anyone can slap a sign on their
truck and say they’re in the remodeling business; this
makes it difficult for the legitimate companies - that
have tons of overhead expenses - to compete.
Those overhead expenses can include worker’s
compensation and general liability insurance, fleet
maintenance, stocking product, employee paychecks
and even taxes. You always hear about the guy that will
install that same door for $300 less. Consumers are not
usually comparing apples to apples in these cases.
Many of these “tailgaters” do not pay taxes because
they aren’t legitimate. They are working under the
table and pocketing all their profits.
This type of dealer is also usually gone within a
year or two. Their code of conduct is putting as much
money in their pockets, then running as fast as they
can. So how can legitimate business owners compete?
In a word: standards.

Did You Know?
Securely tape a
10” x 10” piece of plastic
wrap onto the basement wall in
an area where you have noticed
dampness, sealing the edges of the
plastic wrap with the tape. Check on
the plastic over the next few days.
Eventually you will get moisture. If the
moisture is on the wall side of the plastic
— you’ve got a leak. If the moisture is
on the room side of the plastic
— condensation is a problem.
This past summer, Gail Gantz and Associates conducted a survey for Lemke & Sons. We would like to
thank Gail for her hard work and thank everyone who gave of their time and participated in our survey.
What we learned from our survey is that Lemke & Sons is chosen because our staff made our clients feel

Matthew Williamson is the newest and youngest member of the Lemke & Sons team. He brings
his enthusiasm for learning each and every day. Lemke & Sons is sponsoring Matt’s training in
the Twin Cities Carpenters’ Apprenticeship Program as well as his “hands on” training with our
experienced crew.
Matt is a lifelong resident of St. Paul and has a five month old daughter. He spends his spare
time working on his truck, four wheeling and snowmobiling. Welcome Matt!
