The Elements of Witchcraft
ABOUT THE COURSE OF STUDY The Course of Study offered to you is, in essence, an in‐depth study of the four classic tools known as the Pentacle, Wand, Athame, and Chalice. It consists of six monthly lessons sent by email attachment for home study. Also provided is a “members only” group in which the lesson material can be expanded upon for greater understanding and additional teachings. Here is an overview of the Course of Study lessons. LESSON ONE: Understanding the Four Elements This lesson covers the teachings related to the creative elements of earth, air, fire and water. Each element is thoroughly examined as to its nature and its role in magic and ritual. This lesson also explores the directional quarters of the ritual circle: north, east, south, and west. LESSON TWO: The Pentacle and Its Use This lesson explores the Pentacle as a tool that draws upon the creative element of earth. Its use on the altar and at the four quarters (north, east, south, and west) is revealed. Also included is the method of preparing and charging the tool. LESSON THREE: The Wand and Its Use This lesson examines the wand as a tool that draws upon the element of air or fire (this differs between traditions). Its use to evoke and invoke is explored. Also included is a list of magical correspondences to various trees. Additionally included is the method of preparing and charging the tool. LESSON FOUR: The Athame/Knife and Its Use This lesson explores the ritual knife known as the Athame, which is connected to elemental fire or air (this differs from tradition to tradition). The Athame is a tool of transformation, and is often used to cast a ritual or magical circle. In this lesson several uses of the Athame are revealed. A method of preparing and charging the tool is also included in the lesson material. LESSON FIVE: The Chalice and its Use This lesson examines the Chalice (ritual cup) as a tool associated with elemental water. Its use as a spiritual tool and a ceremonial vessel is discussed. Additionally included is the method of preparing and charging the tool. LESSON SIX: The Ritual Circle and its Casting The circle is often regarded as a “place between the worlds.” This lesson explores the mystical and practical aspects of the ritual circle. Also discussed is its relationship with the “elemental portals” into the spirit realm, and the connection to guardians of the cardinal points: north, east, south, and west. The lesson includes methods of creating the ritual or magical circle. Once the Course of Study is completed you will receive a certificate of completion that is suitable for framing.
