THE TESTER CAN TEST ANY ALTERNATOR.
IN NATURE, WITH SPECIFICS AS NEEDED.
_STEP
THUS, THESE INSTRUCTIONS
ARE UNIVERSAL
DESCRIPTION
_
STEPS 1 THROUGH 5 ARE OF A GENERAL NATURE AND APPLY TO ALL ALTERNATORS.
HOWEVER, IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THERE ARE TWO BASIC TYPES OF ALTERNATORS:
INTEGRAL AND NON-INTEGRAL. AN INTEGRAL ALTERNATOR CONTAINS AN INTERNALLY
CONNECTED (IC) REGULATOR. THESE TWO TYPES OF ALTERNATORS ARE TREATED DIFFERENTLY LATER ON IN THE TESTING INSTRUCTIONS.
TURN TESTER ON: TURN POWER SWITCH "19" TO THE "ON" POSITION.
2
PLACE VOLTMETER RANGE SWITCH #151N PROPER POSITION, 0-18 FOR
6 AND 12 VOLT UNITS, 0-36 FOR 24 VOLT UNITS. PLACE AMMETER
RANGE SWITCH #13 (10-0-120) IN THE DOWN POSITION.
NOTE: FOR 3 HP TESTER, THE AMMETER RANGE IS UP TO 100 AMPS,
ON 5 HP TESTER, THE AMMETER RANGE IS UP TO 120 AMPS.
3
SELECT PROPER "A" OR "B" FIELD CIRCUIT ON FIELD SELECTOR "18":
A. "B" IS FOR POSITIVE FIELD UNITS, THOSE WHOSE REGULATOR
