Technico Flor,
new succes...
GREAT TIMES
AS SUMMER VACATION ENDS
L’ARTISAN PARFUMEUR has brought out an
explosively exciting set of three new fragrances.
DELIRIA will thrill you with notes of raw
rum over a base of pomo d’oro (the Italian for
tomato) and candy floss. AMOUR NOCTURNE
is as gentle as the caress of lovers gazing eye
to eye, cedar wood enfolded in the fragrance
of warm milk and caramel for comfort, giving
way to astonishing notes of gunpowder and
orchids. SKIN ON SKIN is an animal fragrance
awakening the primary need to touch and be
close, mingling the sensuality of iris with the
softness of velvety leather, intermingled with
saffron, whisky, lavender and roses, yielding
finally to a musky afterglow of fur.
The choice is explosively yours...
Bertrand Duchaufour.

PENHALIGON’S
celebrates
India and more
particularly
Jodhpur.
With a scent named after His Highness the
Maharadja Gaj Singh II of Rajasthan and
his family. A scent that charms and is full
of serene majesty, wafting the fragrance
of rose-rich palace gardens heightened by
magnolia and peonies, to stir the heart in
resonance with after-notes of white, musky
honey and sandalwood.

Patchouli is a timeless product
and exerts an eternal fascination on fragrance makers.
All there
is to know T
about
Patchouli
his made it a prime candidate for an organic
production process. Last April we had already
notched up two years of experimental work. Now
we were going out to view progress in Indonesia, the
cradle of the finest quality patchouli. Our goal was
training local farmers in organic production techniques,
while responding to all their requests for information.
Technically, the training process was known to be a
lengthy one. But that’s a good thing, as time is the only
way to build up real trust. On arrival at our hotel, we
were amazed at the mountain views and silence of
the countryside. Next day we still had two hours more
drive across mountains, with their dazzling colors, rich
scents and the many shades of green in the terraced
paddy fields and vegetation. We couldn’t believe our
eyes. When the road petered out, we had to keep going,
ending up driving on caked mud surfaces. The people
greeted us on arrival with effusive kindness, in their
magnificent village. At this time of the year, the farmers
work double time, their nights are spent protecting crops
against predators (wild boar or field mice). When they
return at dawn, their features are drawn with fatigue.
We called meetings to respond to concerns and give
every assurance about Technico Flor’s intentions.

STORYLINE :
Paysages en rizières, Indonésie.
Out in the field, we visited some (but not all) potential
production locations, as Friday is the day of prayer,
and we inspected whether organic farming criteria
could be met. The farmers were quick to get involved
and organized with the greatest efficiency. One of them
almost immediately volunteered to store the harvest in
his house, where conditions were good and dry. A debate
ensued about taking cuttings, to increase the acreage
under crop and hence meet production targets. No easy
matter, as all plots have to meet stringent criteria before
they are approved. Investment is required, but it’s clearly
worth it for plots of such high quality. Our visit followed
on from earlier research into crop drying performance
and distillation techniques, where results had been
highly promising. We gave the farmers a computer
printer to make administration easier. After two years
of shared endeavor, we’ve helped the farmers set up their
own working cooperative. We’re delighted that the funds
we pay in are used for the good of all, including buying a
horse to carry the wood for process heating. Traditionally
this backbreaking task was done by older women.
Communal wood stores have been set up and the final
outcome is higher prices paid to each farmer
The final stage of our visit was lunch with the authorities
to inform them of ongoing concerns. All are pleased
with the work. And we visitors had the added pleasure
of memorable experiences to take back home with us.
We fell in love with this amazing spot and its successful
Patchouli farming story. We’re absolutely convinced this
will be THE place for producing THE finest grades of
organic Patchouli!
STORYLINE is a new quarterly feature article, in which Technico Flor takes you behind the scenes, giving you insider knowledge about how we set about our exciting business. Our
CORPORATE SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY approach is
aligned on the 10 principles of
the Global Compact
Chromatographic
sensitivity
TECHNICOFLOR is sparing no effort to introduce Corporate Social
Responsibility into its approach to environmental protection and improved
working conditions. Our commitment to the United Nations Global
Compact earlier this year is part of our wider-ranging approach to support
human rights, combat corruption and promote Fair Trade (see STORYLINE
article above). Further concerns are responsible purchasing, social progress,
and environmental protection, among others
Our first annual report (Communication on Progress - COP) will be
published at the end of 2013. We’ll be back to you 18 months down the line,
when we announce progress toward ISO 26000 certification.

ISO 14001 FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE
ISO 14001 standard will henceforward govern the way we at
TECHNOFLOR manage environmental protection issues.
This standard demonstrates that we are reliably committed to
reducing planetary environmental impact, while also meeting
the needs of our customers.
This approach is twofold:
- Designing innovative fragrances that reduce planetary environmental impact at
source (NATFLOR natural perfumes, essential oils, Eco labeling…)
- Mobilizing our staff in-house to reduce the organization’s own environmental
impact (waste management, recycling, economical use of natural and other
resources…)
This is part of the wider ranging approach known as Corporate Social
Responsibility. We warmly applaud and thank all our staff for their
commitment to, and support of, these aims.
TECHNICO FLOR is also concerned
to provide final consumers with the purest formulations. Hence our
acquisition of the latest chromatographic spectrometer from AGILENT,
the triple quadrupole AGILENT 7000 B. This has quite unusually high
sensitivity when it comes to identifying ultrafine traces of contaminants
such as pesticides, among others. This instrument is unique in terms of
its analytical performance. Its capacity will be available for processing
all future client briefs.
