It is hard to believe that we have already hit 2016, and our school year is almost half over. The first part of our year has been a huge success, and our students are all settled and learning every day. We have an amazing and dedicated community, which makes Mountain Vista a special place to send our kids. As a new year’s resolution, make it a habit to read with your children every day for 20 minutes. They can read to you, or you can read to them. Make this time a fun and enjoyable experience and let your children see that you enjoy reading. Ask them questions about the text and any words they may struggle with. Make this a special time that you all look forward to. Reading at home will have great benefits as your children continue to grow. Our next big PTO event will be held on February 19 at Mountain Vista from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Our amazing PTO will be hosting a family fun night/silent auction to help raise money for our STEM fund. We have some incredible silent auction items that you will be able to bid on throughout the night, and pizza will be available to help feed any hungry ones. I hope to see you all there Friday, February 19, and I am looking forward to seeing when I will be spending a day on the roof! Spring testing is quickly approaching for all of our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. We have included our testing schedule for you to look at and plan around accordingly. It is important for our intermediate students to be at school on testing days so they are able to join their classmates in an optimum testing environment. I am excited for our students to take the test and show all of the learning that has taken place at Mountain Vista this year. Last year our students performed very well in both literacy and math compared to district and state averages. I am very proud of our students and teachers for all of their hard work and dedication towards learning. If you have any questions about testing, please feel free to contact me at the school. As always, thank you for allowing me to be part of your child’s education and thank you for your continued support and trust to make Mountain Vista the best possible school for all of our students. Warmly, Toby R. FEBRUARY – NATIONAL CHILDREN’S DENTAL HEALTH MONTH Its time brush up on oral health during National Children’s Dental Health Month! Oral health directly impacts school success and research indicates that children across the US miss up to 51 million instructional hours annually. Children with good oral health habits are shown to have better academic outcomes and social success than children with frequent dental pain, caries, or chronic dental concerns. What can you do? Parents and children are encouraged to brush their teeth for two minutes, two times per day and schedule regular preventative visits with your dental professional.
