The initial setting up fee for this club is $193.90, with a
further annual payment next July of approximately $137.00.
It seems that most of the usual suspects made the effort
to attend, of course the new venue behind Government

BIKE WEEK BREAKFAST
I have no official report on this event which is usually quite
well patronised by this club, so can only tell what I have
heard on the grapevine, and at this time of the year grapes
are pretty pricey.
Apparently the Thompsons are having problems again,
either Merv's stoplight didn't work or Dawns brakes
were faulty. They really must stop bumping into one
another like that.
A great time was had by all taking part in this event.

WHITEMAN PARK
A warm and sunny autumn day, shady trees in a lush green
park, a jazz orchestra playing well known favourites and
surrounded by friends of like mind. H o w better could one
spend a glorious March Sunday?
Our display at Whiteman Park was a grand success. Thanks
to David Clark, who was first on the scene, we were able to
select a superb site within our allocated area, central to all
activities and with all day shade.
The Whiteman Park Classic Car Show is a family day which
means lots of kids. P h i l and Merv, provided an excellent
display of historic tricycles and pedal cars which proved a
magnet to the youngsters in the crowd.
With seven machines from the nineteenth century going as
far back as 4875, the display predated all the car club
exhibits and attracted continued interest all day. Together
with a diverse selection of bicycles from 1930 to the 1980's.
Our club's display was one of the busiest at the show.
Club members engaged i n many, sometimes lengthy
conversations w i t h visitors. T h e interest shown was
indicative o f the fact that most people rode bicycles at
sometime during their lives and our display brought back
memories which proved a good talking point.
It was nice to catch up with Jim Selkirk, one of our regional
members from Gingin. J i m displayed a 'Squirrel', a rare
beast (we think from USA) manufactured using pressed
steel construction. He intends restoring his bike and would
love to hear from anyone who may have information on the
Squirrel's origins. Jim is also a member of the Vauxhall Car
Club and on the day displayed one of the General's English
offspring—flutes and all.
It was generally thought the attendance on 2005 was
well down on previous years. Some of the car clubs at
the perimeter of the display area were disappointed at
having fewer viewing their cars. Our club was fortunate
in having a unique exhibition which attracted a high
degree of interest.
The entertainment for the day was provided by the CBC
Fremantle Jazz Orchestra. The young high school boys
played professional and style rarely heard in a school
band. With an extensive repertoire, they were a credit to
their school and to their teachers.
There was one down side to the day. I forgot to take my
cask of Kaiser Sthul dry red—never mind!

because the weather was just perfect for a mid morning ride.
Some riders made some adjustments to their bikes along
with the way eg tightening the handlebars for one rider, just
as well we carried some tools. A t least someone's peddle
didn't fall off this time.
Desiree had a new friend come along for the ride but he
must have got a B.S.A. (bloody sore arse) by the time the
ride was over sitting on the handle bars all the way. She
will no doubt take him again next time.
Alan went to find a Subway, I reckon Wendy thought he
found the Freeway instead because he was gone so long.
We all had a good time, till next time. Stay safe, on your

When I was a kid racing bikes there were a lot of better
bikes around than mine, but the cost was well out of my
reach however, as they say all good things come to those
who wait.
Some forty years on, and I have just acquired my dream
bike. Come and see it at the next Club Meeting and bring a
big box of tissues.
