Sending you our EASTER Season GREETINGS - As a member of the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra (LAYO),
Ferdinand Engel, 8th Grade, who is going to Loyola High School next year, is thrilled to be playing with
students from all over California. It is like a second family where everyone just plays an instrument and works
together to create wonderful music. It is the ideal program for those who want to expand their musical abilities
with people their own age. Ferdinand has had wonderful experiences and we encourage others to share their
love in music at the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra. The group is lucky enough to have a great conductor:
Russell Steinberg. He is passionate about the orchestra and works to raise the bar in order to mold young
children into fine musicians. Every year, Ferdinand and his group play at Colburn Hall (where the pictures
were taken) and are just so lucky to be able to be welcomed to other communities who appreciate music just as
much as they do.
With much gratitude during this Easter Season for Holy Family Grade School and Holy Family Catholic
Church Ferdinand (8th Grader), Fernando, and Sandra Engel

In the hope of seeing Jesus’ rising again, our children attributed Spring to symbolize new life and rebirth; with eggs
known as an ancient symbol of fertility, as well as Easter eggs representing Jesus' resurrection. Our TK and
Kindergarten classes’ had their Easter Egg Hunt. The annual Easter Egg Hunt was celebrated at HFCC’s Holy
Courtyard of Charity. We appreciate you Mrs. Rogers, Mrs. Castillo, Mrs. Nelson, and Fr. Mike Perucho!

Prayer to St. John XXIII
Dear St. John,
Your simplicity and meekness carried the scent of God and sparked in people’s hearts the desire for
goodness. You spoke often of the beauty of the family gathered around the table to share bread and faith:
pray for us that once again true families would live in our homes.
Without outstretched hands you sowed hope, and you taught us to listen for God’s footsteps as he
prepares a new humanity: help us have a healthy optimism of defeating evil with good.
You loved the world with its light and darkness, and you believed that peace is possible: help us be
instruments of peace at home and in our communities.
With paternal gentleness you gave all children a caress: you moved the world and reminded us that hands
have been given to us not for striking, but for embracing and drying tears.
Pray for us so that we do not limit ourselves to cursing the darkness but that we bring the light, bringing
Jesus everywhere and always praying to Mary. Amen.
Prayer to St. John Paul II
Oh, St. John Paul, from the window of heaven, grant us your blessing! Bless the church that you loved
and served and guided, courageously leading it along the paths of the world in order to bring Jesus to
everyone and everyone to Jesus. Bless the young, who were your great passion. Help them dream again,
help them look up high again to find the light that illuminates the paths of life here on earth.
May you bless families, bless each family! You warned of Satan’s assault against this precious and
indispensable divine spark that God lit on earth. St. John Paul, with your prayer, may you protect the
family and every life that blossoms from the family.
Pray for the whole world, which is still marked by tensions, wars and injustice. You tackled war by
invoking dialogue and planting the seeds of love: pray for us so that we may be tireless sowers of peace.
Oh St. John Paul, from heaven’s window, where we see you next to Mary, send God’s blessing down
upon us all. Amen.

A Letter from Our Volunteer Guidance Counselor
Dear Holy Family Community,
We can all identify those people in our lives that gave us their time, listened to us, really understood us
without judgment, made us feel loved and supported, and empowered us to make effective choices for
ourselves. It was my privilege as a volunteer School Counselor to be one of those people for the students,
along with the teachers, staff, and parents at HFGS. In my 3 years with you, I wanted to see each child as
she presented herself, not as a “problem” that needed to be “fixed”. Through my intentionally adopting an
open, listening posture, students' initial shyness or reluctance often gave way to trusting in me to
understand them as they needed to be understood - which, for anyone, is a deeply healing and
transforming experience. Parents and teachers have expressed that they see a positive difference in the
children that have received therapy, and I feel it is an honor to be used by God in this way to make a
difference in a family’s life.
As I have completed my training hours, however, it is time for me to move on to exclusively focus on my
private practice. My colleague, Stephanie Kisch, will be joining you next year as the new volunteer
School Counselor, and I hope that you will welcome her as warmly as you did me.
Another reason that I am moving on this early in the school year is that my husband and I are expecting
our first child in May! We are very excited and nervous to be first-time parents to our baby boy, and we
appreciate all the love and support that HFGS has already given us for this new stage in our lives.
I can continue to be reached at (626) 325-9318 and at my email, [email protected] for therapy
services. My office is located in the Hastings Ranch area of Northeast Pasadena. Please refer to this
website for more details about my practice: http://sync.org/therapists/g-caroline-seto/
I pray that HFGS will continue to be a loving community of faith that trusts in God to work through
every individual who offers her gifts and talents towards His glory and the blessing of others. Thanks
again to Miss Suelto for the opportunity to be with you. I've truly enjoyed my time here working with the
students and getting to know you all!
With joy,
Caroline Seto
