Well, we have fun in Fairway Village no matter the weather. As many of our residents head north for a few weeks or months, we still have plenty to keep us active. Since the FSC is a committee rather than an organization, we did not have a ceremonial oath of office in April as we have in the past. I want to take this opportunity to recognize and thank those volunteers who represent the residents of Fairway Village. District #1 representative is Dorothy Fritzinger and Bud Henley is the alternate. District #2 representative is Linda Quennville and Mary Marks is the alternate. District #3 representative is Mary Schiffgens and Beth Donker is the alternate. Renee Sylvers delivers the Fliers. District #5 representative is Annette Takat and Lorriane Frye is the alternate. District #6 representative is Judy Andersen and Christine Clark is the alternate. District #7 representative is Ann Taber and Al Hillier is the alternate. District #8 representative is Mary Thalman and Ann Brackenbury is the alternate. Otto Forst delivers the Fliers. These volunteers deliver the Fliers to your door and notices from the office when necessary. They attend the executive board meetings and vote on approval of social activities and proposed budget expenditures. They organize helpers when it is your district’s turn to serve at the pancake breakfast. They pass out the drawing tickets at the FSC meetings. They organize the Get-Acquainted Party every two years for your district. These are the people who represent you as the Executive Board along with the officers, Jan Wallace as Chairperson, Christine Clark as vice-chair, June Killam as secretary and Marjorie Fields as treasurer. If you get a call requesting your help with one of these activities, please be willing to serve. Thank you and have a great summer. May Koffee Klatch Gary & Carol Outzs C ome to the Fairway Village Koffee Klatch on Saturday, May 16, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome – residents and their guests. Rep. O n April 11, 2015, we came together to serve the village residents breakfast. We thank each and every one of the volunteers both in the kitchen and those of us from District 7 who participated. Keith and Shirley Reynolds, Scott and Nancy Archer, Paul and Charlotte Franco, Judy Stewart and Steve Taber. Women Working Wonders (WWW) W ith May arriving, many of our WWW members, like so many other seasonal residents of Fairway Village have departed to northern summer residences. As many residents leave, our neighborhoods become very quiet and those who live alone may feel a bit isolated. This is a good time to remind everyone that the American Red Cross provides a FREE service called the Telephone Reassurance Program. Volunteers make daily phone calls seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. to check on those who sign up for the service. If they do not get an answer, a volunteer or a contact person of your choosing will be dispatched to your home to check on your well being. Those who sign up for the service must be home during the designated morning time frame for the calls. If you cannot be home on a particular morning or plan to be away on vacation, you can notify your volunteer caller the day before to stop the calls for that time period. You will be asked for a contact person – a neighbor, friend or family member who lives locally and can check on you if the volunteer call goes unanswered. We hope those living alone in neighborhoods which empty out in the summer months will consider signing up for this service. It will give you, and those who care about you, peace of mind that your well being is checked daily. Call 813-348-4820, Extension 7622 to sign up for this important free service. For further information or questions regarding WWW during the summer months, contact Mary Blythe at 533-9712. All inquiries are confidential. The WWW Senior Resource Book will be available during the summer months by contacting Ann Marie Cucinotta at 524-1157. Have a wonderful summer! O E Wilson Insurance Inc. 30 727-535-0524 FAIRWAY VILLAGE FLIER 9 MAY, 2015 C Thank you so much to Glenn Russell and Sandy Boddy our FV Tournament Directors for this Event. We don’t want to forget to extend our appreciation to Ted Moran and his Team who keep our courts in pristine condition for the entire season, League Shuffle and Social Shuffle. The “Team” also make sure that everything is set up and stored away, coffee is made and pastries ordered. Thank you one and all. Many hands are needed to make this appear effortless … it’s not effortless; so whenever you lend a hand it is appreciated. A fond farewell to the Fairway Village Social Shuffle Director Murray Wilson, who stepped down after 18 years of being the “ring master” for the Tuesday and Thursday Fun League. Murray was presented with a small token of our appreciation on March 31st. We will all see him shuffling again next season, but he has handed over his stewardship. State Flags on Half Moon Lake Rod Blythe and Ron Wallace T hank you sponsors for helping to keep that daily reminder of your home state flying in the breeze as you drive into our Park. They just remind us of happy faces ready to greet us. But they do require replacement twice a year to keep them fresh looking. The Florida winds, thunderstorms, and sun are pretty tough on them. Flags are $28.00 each. If you would like to be a sponsor of a state flag or continue to be a sponsor and have your name listed in the Flier twice a year, please let either Ron at 507-9046 or Rod at 533-9712 know. Also five other state flag wavers help us out by keeping track of sponsors for their respective states: Carol Krieble for Pennsylvania, Ida Grondin for Maine, Janet Faith for Indiana, Linda Miller for New York, and Betty Kentish for Illinois. Thanks to over 200 of you, the state flags continue to wave. Strawberry Cabaret 2015 Charlie Weaver O n behalf of all the members of the New England Strawberry Cabaret Committee, I would like to thank all of you who came out and supported this year’s show. From all that I have heard, everyone enjoyed both the shortcake and the entertainment. Fifty New Englanders showed up to cut berries, cook biscuits, prepare the desserts, serve them and pick up the mess afterward. I personally want to thank all of them for their work. I am proud of each of you and so thankful to have you help with this party. We served 408 guests plus 50 workers, and we did it in 15 minutes. That may not be a record, but it is a very good average FAIRWAY VILLAGE FLIER MAY, 2015 C 13 and will serve as a record until a better time comes along. Plans are already underway for the 2016 edition which will be held on Saturday, March 26. Cahal Dunne will return as our entertainer. You all remember what a great show he brought in 2014. So mark your calendars and prepare for another great night of entertainment at Fairway. The candidates were Mike Clare, Ron Chisholm, Dan DeRose, Judy Low and John Swan. Thank you to each of the five candidates and the many workers involved in ensuring that every member who had a right to vote had an opportunity to do so. Thank you to Peg McCordic, Bob Stevens, Butch and Bonnie Barley, Jenny Lanning, Gerry Kravec, Sue Bakker, Linda Stafford, Ann Brackenbury and Carla Wilson for being present at the scramble and checking in members and providing ballots during the day of the scramble. Thank you to Carla Wilson, Dallas Fields, Ann Brackenbury and Marjorie Fields for counting all of the votes and also Linda Stafford and Marjorie Fields FAIRWAY VILLAGE FLIER MAY, 2015 C 21 for overseeing and ensuring that everything was handled according to the defined protocols. And a special thank you every member who took the time to attend at the golf shack and vote! Congratulations to Mike Clare, Judy Low and John Swan who are the three new members of the Fairway Village Golf Committee. DID YOU VOTE? ARE YOU A MEMBER? Residents of Fairway Village who have paid the annual fee for golfing privileges are Fairway Village Golf Club members. If you are a member of either the Men’s or the Ladies Leagues and you pay as you go for your golf fees then you are not a member of the Golf Club and therefore do not have the right to vote in the Golf Club elections. If you are a new resident or a resident who has never been a member of the Golf Club you may take advantage of a one time only opportunity of pro-rated annual golf fees until the commencement of the next calendar year. We encourage all residents of Fairway Village who use the golf course on a regular basis to take advantage of the opportunity to become a member of the Golf Club and thereby have input into the election of officers and the opportunity to have a voice in the annual Golf Club meeting. HOLE IN ONE – There was an error in reporting in the April Flyer. Tony Catalino did not have a hole in one as reported. Our belated congratulations go to Nunzio Cucinotta who did have a hole in one on hole #7 with 3 hybrid on March 3rd. Congratulations also to Peter Rennie who had his hole in one on March 21st on hole #1 with an 8 hybrid, along with Francine Benoit who had her hole in one on hole #1 on March 24 using a 3 wood and to Brenda Ford for her hole in one on hole #8 using a 5 wood on March 29th. The hole in ones continued on into April and our congratulations to Shirley Anderson for her hole in one on #4 with a 7 iron and also to Peter Rennie who had his hole in one on #3 using a 5 hybrid. Congratulations again to Ken Low who had his second hole in one this season on hole #6 with a 4 iron. Message from your Golf Club Committee The members of the Fairway Village Golf Club Committee wish to thank each and every volunteer who stepped up and dedicated their time and energy ensuring the success of the numerous events which took place during our winter season 2014-2015. And also a huge thank you to all of you who attended our events even though there were a few with rather chilly weather. We wish all residents a healthy and fun filled summer and if you are traveling in the near future, we wish you safe travels as you set out on your journey. Cheers!
