March is National Nutrition Month Mid-Step Milestones March Anniversaries “If hunger is not the problem, then eating is not the solution.” ~Unknown 80% Rule … Stop eating when you are 80% full. MyPlate is a great way to remember keys to good nutrition. MyPlate shows what types of foods should be a part of your plate to help you maintain a healthy diet. A big part of eating right is having nutritious foods every day. Another good way to maintain or lose weight is to chart what you are eating every day. The chart helps to remind you to eat foods from every food group each day and keep track when you are over eating a certain food group. Be physically active your way. To feel your best, try to be active at least one hour each day, but how you do it is up to you. Whether you walk, bike, run, dance, play ball, swim or walk the dog, it’s up to you. The more active you are, the better. Watching TV, playing video games or playing on the computer can be fun, but limit your screen time. Staying active is a big part of staying healthy. Make at least half of your grains whole Half of your plate should be fruits and vegetables. Get your calcium-rich foods in dairy. Diversity Corner - Sun Tzu Did you know? Mid-Step Services was proudly represented at the 2016 Miss Amazing Pageant in Council Bluffs January 29th & 30th. A total of 93 women participated in the pageant this year with 19 Mid-Step representatives. The Mid-Step Sassy Steppers put on a great routine of dancing and singing. Our very own Miss Marikza Hahn was the crowned winner at the Miss Amazing Iowa Teen division on Friday night. Marizka lives at So. Rustin Apts. and attends the Nebraska Indian Community College in South Sioux City, taking Early Childhood Development classes. This is the first year Marizka has participated in the pageant. The pageant focused on “Being Different is Beautiful”. All of the contestants had a very busy weekend of pampering, getting dressed and ready for their next competition of talent, interviews and evening gown. All contestants brought home a crown and trophy, along with some wonderful memories. The pageant is a great experience for all of the women and a wonderful boost of self confidence. Marizka will be able to attend the National Miss Amazing Pageant June 3 and 4th in Chicago. We will be having several fundraising efforts going on until then to help her out with expenses to be able to participate. If you would like to help, please contact Nancy Mullally or Tamra Villegas. March 13th Health/Fitness Club Membership Reimbursement Changes Turn your clocks ahead one hour MSS is supportive in promoting health and wellness of employees. March 27th The Work-Site Weight Watchers group continues to go strong. Since the first session began, our small group of 13-15 people have lost a combined total of over 200 lbs! A new session will beginning in April. The group meets every Friday at the Main Office training room at 12:15pm weigh-in and 12:30 to 1:00 meeting. We have great information along with tips, support, and ideas on how to make this journey a healthy, happy one (and not so painful). If you would like to join and take control of your health, please call Judy Morton at Impressions—274-7261 or 224-8233. Since the opening of Planet Fitness, the reimbursement benefit needed to be re-evaluated. You will not be reimbursed for an amount that exceeds the basic cost of the membership. You must still provide proof of membership and attendance. Employees are responsible for initiation fees, annual fees, other membership dues and related costs. To participate in this benefit, the health/fitness club must be approved by MSS and be able to provide MSS or the employee with a timely monthly report on employee usage. For questions or concerns, please contact Pam Mannion at the Main Office, 274-2252.
