As we have reached our last Soneri Roshni edition for the year, I am proud to reckon 2015 as another successful year for Soneri Bank. Our non-clichéd and unconventional approach grows stronger and continues to propel the bank’s brand image across all marketing spectrums. Our employees grow in their dedication and commitment which is evident in the internal productivity campaigns. Our business is on a continuing growth curve with a significant progress in the Car Finance portfolio. Soneri Car Finance has shown a 51% growth from December 2014 till August 2015 taking into account the tremendous 2nd Quarter performance that peaked at Rs.364.45 million in sales. The impact of our recent supportive Campaign launch of Car finance in September is yet to reap results as it’s the first time we are creating our market awareness in consumer finance. Marketing campaigns continue to be effective and on strategy raising Soneri Bank’s brand image which has resulted in invaluable customer engagement and top-of-the-mind brand recall. Soneri Mehnat Wasool launched Remittance 360 ATL campaigns consistently in the year capitalizing on Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. Soneri Mehnat Wasool maintained a healthy business performance increase in monthly transactions with an incremental 30% growth from 2014 till today. The launch of Soneri Asaan Account reinforced our brand positioning of Roshan Har Qadam & clutter-breaking communication targeting our untapped market. This edition also covers the festivities of Independence Day that was carried out across the Soneri network whole heartedly. Soneri Bank congratulates and appreciates all the Sonerians who competed and celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm – reiterating the bank’s spirit and commitment to the nation’s unity and prosperity. Our digital pathway is consistently capturing the youth audience on all social media platforms to build our brand equity as a future banking customer. Organizations such as Inov8 and C-Square Consulting have been brought on board to upgrade mobile banking and centralized service systems. Soneri Bank has also partnered with PTCL for embarking upon hosting the IT Data Centre Infrastructure for enhanced security and sustainability. Our management division has also carried out proactive measures pertaining to risk - curtailing setbacks at the face of contingencies that effect data, infrastructure and technology areas. A Numbers Game Soneri Bank announces Third Quarter 2015 Results Marketing Manager Anwar Hussain Soneri Bank Limited posted profit before tax of Rs.2,622.22 million and profit after tax of Rs.1,589.87 million for the nine months period ended 30 September 2015. In terms of growth PBT is up 49.86 percent and PAT by 41.92 percent over corresponding period last year. The Board in its 146th meeting held on 20 October 2015, approved the Bank’s third quarter financial statements. On this occasion the Chairman, Mr. Alauddin Feerasta appreciated the Bank’s continued strong performance during the third quarter and expressed satisfaction with results. Marketing Services Manager Sub-Editor’s Note Dear Readers, Soneri Roshni November 2015 04 2015 has been a year of product marketing, Soneri Mehnat Wasool, Soneri Car Finance and Soneri Asaan Account have all been rewardingly launched across the country, contributing to a stronger brand equity and top-of-the-mind brand recall. In this edition I have received good response from the overall bank staff in contributing articles for the newsletter. I would like to thank the IT Department, Risk Management Division, Car Finance, Remittances and the HR department for their contribution. Furthermore, the response we have witnessed on the Independence Day was heartening. Everyone celebrated with great enthusiasm, specifically the staff efforts in making Pakistan’s flags and decorating their departments have depicted the patriotism we share as one nation. We exhibit this progression with linear art as our design tool. A dynamic layout exudes a sense of transcendence with banking related icons and directional arrows that represent growth and future aspirations. The key drivers of higher net earnings were primarily revenue growth and managed expenses. Bank’s revenue increased by 22.86 percent to Rs.8.06 billion, from last year’s figure of Rs.6.56 billion whereas expenses increased just by 6.48 percent. Bank’s net assets amounted to Rs.18.07 billion as at 30 September 2015, being 6.04 percent higher than December 2014 base of Rs.17.04 billion. Deposits grew by 7.88 percent during the nine months closing at Rs.176.11 billion (December 2014: Rs.163.25 billion) and net advances down by 5.27 percent to Rs.100.49 billion (December 2014: Rs.106.08 billion) due to seasonal factors. The Bank continues to follow a prudent policy for making provisions for the infected loan portfolio in line with regulatory requirements. It has signed with several international remitting organizations such as MoneyGram, Wallstreet Finance (Canada), Golden Money Transfer (USA), Al Falah Exchange (UAE), Alpine Exchange (USA) and its recent major breakthrough with Al Ansari Exchange (UAE) and Ria Money Transfer (UK) – one of the world’s top remitting company. The brand name, “Soneri Mehnat Wasool Remittance” has been promoted through campaigns that standout in terms of unique content and communication strategy, solidifying a prominent footprint for Soneri Bank in the remittance segment. The Mehnat Wasool Eid-ul-Fitr campaign beautifully captured the spirit of the transition from Ramadan to Eid throughout which families prepare for the festivities of Eid. The communication tied moments and sentiments that are relevant to families whose loved ones (breadwinners) remain far away at work during such festivities. Soneri Mehnat Wasool exceptionally bridges this gap in its communication. The Eid-ul-Fitr campaign covered a 360 degree spectrum with a TVC, radio spots, OOH, digital and print advertisements. The communication smartly highlights the product’s USP of instant money transfer as a rewarding solution. Car purchasing continues to grow in major cities across Pakistan. However with time, consumers have become more aware of the convenience that comes with opting for car finance. This is evident from the fact that over the past quarter, Soneri Bank has made significant progress with its Car Finance portfolio and has seen a tremendous growth in a short time, more than 51% from December 2014 till August 2015. Different trainings for Credit Officers and branch staff were conducted on Pan-Pakistan basis so that the Credit Proposal can be prepared automatically without any hassle. Launch of Used and Reconditioned Car Finance In order to remain competitive in the current market and to increase Car Finance business, Soneri Bank has launched financing of used and reconditioned cars under the umbrella of Consumer Finance. The State Bank of Pakistan issued their guidelines on risk management vide BSD-7 dated August 15, 2003 that required the banks to formulate and implement a well-defined credit policy and to develop systems, procedures and related organizational structure to measure, monitor and control credit risk. The loan origination function has been given key importance which should be subsequently strengthened by credit administration function. Such function should ensure that the credit activities are in compliance with the bank’s policies and procedures. It is basically a back office function, responsible for providing support in controlling the extension and maintenance of the credit. In light of the above guidelines, the bank’s Credit Policy was revised and approved by the Board of Directors in its meeting held on 31st August, 2012. Subsequent to the policy, a revised credit manual was circulated as well in order to improve the credit processes and compliance of the defined procedures is mandatory for all bank staff associated with credit processes. As required in the Credit Policy, a Credit Administration Department was established as part of Credit Division and centralization of the credit processing was implemented in 2013 under the guidance of Mr. Akbar Raza, Head of CAD. A Service Level Agreement was signed between Credit Division and Business Groups for ensuring smooth functioning of CAD and providing quality services to our customers. Since 2013, CAD has been made fully functional in a phased manner and is controlling the credit processes CAD is independent of the business groups. The branches regularly interact with customers for strengthened client-business relationships. This has helped in improving the overall credit performance of the bank. The business groups are likely to generate more of the credit business in accordance with the guidance of Credit Division. The positive difference is pretty obvious if we compare the position with previous years. Business Groups are now primarily indulged in enhancing the credit portfolio of the bank. Subsequently, CAD caters the requirements of all credit functions from extending the credit to adjustment of the same. CAD ensures that all the credit covenants are complied with by the branches in order to avoid any issues in the performing loans. Due to country-wide centralization of credit processes, CAD is able to implement uniform credit practices in all regions and it has helped in ensuring effective loan monitoring at all ends. This has created a great working relationship environment with the business groups and CAD is able to effectively render its services, subsequently reducing the turn-around time while ensuring that the policies and procedures as advised by the regulatory and senior management of the bank are being complied with. Business Units submit the same to CAD for ensuring the completeness as per the approved terms and conditions. Presently, tracking for the required documents is quite easy as the CAD circulates the exception reports to the business groups for their necessary actions. CAD subsequently performs the function of safe custodian of securities, facility and security documentation. The control of shares pledged with our bank against borrowing relationships lies with CAD as well through CDC and monitoring of the loan portfolio against pledged shares is being monitored and circulated to the relevant groups on daily basis. After centralization, CAD is responsible for allowing drawdown in the facilities of the borrowers. These loans are further monitored by CAD and if any anomaly or variance/deviation from the approved terms and conditions is found then the same are communicated to the business units for executing the remedial measures. Pricing of the credit portfolio is being administered as well and branches are asked for rectifications, if required. Soneri Roshni November 2015 36 In order to ensure that the business units are able to perform their respective credit processes timely and efficiently, CAD supports them by providing information regarding the required approvals, valuations, insurances, pledge related issues etc. It depicts a clear picture of the performing loans to the business units that subsequently resolve the queries for ensuring smooth credit operations in the borrowers’ accounts. Consortium finances of SBL are being monitored and reviewed by CAD in accordance with the approvals and in effective liaison with CIBG. CAD is effectively managing the bank’s Export Finance Scheme and Islamic Export Refinance Scheme limits with the State Bank of Pakistan. Branches obtain clearance from CAD for borrowing cases before submission of the same to the SBP. With the support of business units, this process has helped CAD to maintain and monitor the overall bank’s borrowing exposure with SBP. CAD is responsible for monitoring the relationships with the credit vendors such as muqaddams on our pledged sites. CAD provides joint approvals with the business units in order to maintain allocation of various muqaddams as per our approved panels. SBL relationships with other vendors for specified credit services are being catered by CAD as well. A major portfolio of our performing loans is against the pledge of imported and local commodities. This would help us to increase the Facebook Engagement The overall engagement on the page has been healthy, establishing a two-way communication with the audience which is imperative in a brand’s image building agenda. The content shared on the page helped escalate traffic on the Soneri Bank website and Twitter. A total of 189,069 fans engaged with content during the period of five months. The following campaigns were uploaded to Soneri Bank’s Facebook page which led to healthy engagements of plenty of users. Soneri Roshni November 2015 2015 has been the year of digital growth at Soneri Bank Limited with varied communication of product promotions, Facebook & Twitter contests, festive markings and generic banking content. Due to which we have received a promising response that has helped us in enhancing our engagement level. Soneri Mehnat Wasool Soneri Mehnat Wasool was effectively campaigned during the holy month of Ramadan, meeting the needs of majority of customers having loved ones living abroad. Being impeccable on the timing, Soneri Bank was able to capture the remittance market in Ramadan. The content was promoted on Facebook for the entire month of Ramadan. The content was well received by the fans. 1,849 commented on the content, whereas 46,329 liked and 1,136 users shared the campaign in just 28 days! Soneri Mehnat Wasool TVC Mehnat Wasool was a paid campaign, the content shared on Facebook was delivered to 1,196,428 which comprises of Paid + Organic. The total impressions of the campaign were 1,938,181. The Soneri Mehnat Wasool print ad was also promoted on Facebook reaching to 238,400 people through post promotion. The post was also shared by 209 people. Pakistan 65th Independence Day Soneri Visa Debit Card Discount Offers Soneri Visa Debit Card Discount offers were launched during the month of April with uniquely tempting deals. The campaign reached out to 18,163 organically without paid advertising, whereas, 1,294 people engaged with the content. The campaign received over 34,090 impressions on Soneri Bank’s Facebook newsfeed. A total of 201 comments were received on the Soneri Visa Debit Card content whereas over 650 fans liked the posts. A total of 40 users shared the campaign on their walls. Soneri Roshni November 2015 60 Soneri Roshni November 2015 61 Soneri Visa Debit Card Soneri Mehnat Wasool TVC Soneri Bank greeted Ramadan with the launch of a new TVC for Soneri Mehnat Wasool. The video post on Facebook received a notable response and appreciation from the fans. The TVC was promoted to achieve a maximum exposure on Facebook while creating a top-of-mind recall for Soneri Mehnat Wasool. The post reached 829,856 people and was viewed 212,611 times. 4,317 people liked the video and 131 people commented on it, 597 shared it on their feed. Soneri Car Finance A full-fledged campaign, the Soneri Car Finance Scheme, was launched on the social media in the month of August. The campaign received an overwhelming response with fans showing their interest towards the product. The product posts were supported by generic content which was based on Car Financing that helped the audience to understand the product well. The content shared on the page reached 57,068 people out of which 4,026 people actively interacted on the shared posts. A total of 88,342 impressions were received on the shared content on Soneri Bank’s news feed. The total comments received on the content posted were 641, whereas 2,586 people liked the posts and was shared 138 times. Soneri Mehnat Wasool TVC Soneri Roshni November 2015 62 The campaign was based on a trivia in which the fans were required to answer questions from the Soneri Mehnat Wasool TVC. The selected winners will be given a chance to participate in the most watched game show across the country, “Jeeto Pakistan” in their special Ramadan transmission. Independence Day Pakistan Soneri Bank wished its fans a Happy Independence Day on Facebook & Twitter on 14th of August with the most interactive campaign of the year by Soneri Bank “#SonehraPakistan” on Twitter. The campaign comprised of 20 questions spread throughout the month of Ramadan. The fans actively participated in the contest which resulted in a high engagement. There were 19,875 fans who engaged in this particular campaign. The Soneri Jeet content reached out to 192,618 unique users and the total impressions received on this campaign were 308,247. Facebook and Twitter fans found the contest very engaging which ended up in creating thousands of stories on their timelines and also received new page likes during the time period. About 9059+ comments were received across the 21-day campaign whereas the total post likes were over 13,444 and 1318 fans shared it on their timelines. A total of 10 winners were picked via lucky draw who then participated in the most famous TV game show “Jeeto Pakistan”. Self-explanatory from the name itself – the campaign was about adding value to the Ramadan celebrations for fans. #SonehraPakistan Twitter Campaign Soneri’s aim this year was to bring together individuals from several cities of Pakistan in one place through social media – to generate positive sentiments about the country. #SonehraPakistan was all about displaying the brighter side of Pakistan and providing fans a platform where they can only talk about the greatest achievements and beauty of Pakistan. The content shared on Twitter reached to 2.8 million people and received 10 million+ impressions. There were 5,221 Tweets generated during the period of 3 days. 1,524 people stayed engaged with the content shared on Soneri Bank’s Twitter account. Soneri Bank succeeded and created a digital benchmark. The campaign was conducted on Twitter where only key opinion leaders shared their positive views about Pakistan. #SonehraPakistan was a trivia based campaign where fans were asked 12 different questions based on Pakistan.
