Can you spot any of these creatures in the stream?
You can label them once you have spotted them.
Top tip: Most of these animals like to hide in places
where the stream’s flow is gentle. Looking under rocks
as well might be a good place to start.
Remember to put rocks back carefully, once you have finished.
Can you stand still for two minutes and listen
very carefully? What can you hear?
Can you draw a sounds map of where the
different noises come from? We have made a
few suggestions below to help get you started.

your hands before you eat or drink anything.

Take a close look around you. Can you see
evidence of other animals and insects that
have been in the same area.
Make a square shape with four twigs on the floor and
find some bendy plant material (long lengths of grass,
cleavers or willow might be good) and use it to tie
each corner to create a frame.
Now you can use the frame to look through as a
picture frame. What can you see?
Can you see any signs of...
Eaten food: Sometimes there is
evidence of grass, leaves, or nuts which
have been nibbled.
Animal droppings: A definite sign an
animal has been this way.
Animal tracks: Can you recognise
any animal track marks on the ground?
Animal homes: There might
be holes in the ground, webs or
nests.

Stand still and try not to make a noise. Can

once you have found them.

Wooded Glades
Can you collect needles and leaves which have fallen
on the floor. Create an animal shape from what you
have collected. You can be as inventive as you like and
even to create your own animals. Below are some
outlines to give you some ideas. Use different leaves
on the ground to create different textures.
Cloud Spotting
Take a moment to look up above. What do you see?
Can you spot these different types of clouds.
Cumulus, the cotton wool cloud.
Cirrus, the whispy cloud.
Cumulonimbus, the tall grey and
white cloud.
Stratus. the featureless
cloud.
Can you see any shapes, faces or animals in the clouds?
Very few clouds are white. What other colours can you see
within the clouds?

Use you imagination to see if you can create musical
instruments from what lies around you.
