Pond Dipping By the stream Can you spot any of these creatures in the stream? You can label them once you have spotted them. Top tip: Most of these animals like to hide in places where the stream’s flow is gentle. Looking under rocks as well might be a good place to start. Remember to put rocks back carefully, once you have finished. Can you stand still for two minutes and listen very carefully? What can you hear? Make a square shape with four twigs on the floor and find some bendy plant material (long lengths of grass, cleavers or willow might be good) and use it to tie each corner to create a frame. Animal droppings: A definite sign an animal has been this way. Animal tracks: Can you recognise any animal track marks on the ground? Animal homes: There might be holes in the ground, webs or nests. Wooded Glades Can you collect needles and leaves which have fallen on the floor. Create an animal shape from what you have collected. You can be as inventive as you like and even to create your own animals. Below are some outlines to give you some ideas. Use different leaves on the ground to create different textures. Cloud Spotting Take a moment to look up above. What do you see? Can you spot these different types of clouds. Cumulus, the cotton wool cloud. Cirrus, the whispy cloud. Cumulonimbus, the tall grey and white cloud. Stratus. the featureless cloud. Can you see any shapes, faces or animals in the clouds? Very few clouds are white. What other colours can you see within the clouds? Wild Music Now’s your chance to be a pop star! Use you imagination to see if you can create musical instruments from what lies around you.
