Over the past few months, we have continued to serve through our Christmas Day
Service Projects, donating over 300 toys from our Annual Toy Drive to children, packing shoes from underprivileged countries with Share Your Soles, shipping bras to
women in need with Support 1000 and helping those with disabilities via the Sertoma
Center.
Tau Psi Zeta has celebrated sisterhood and leadership as we fellowshipped with our
Undergraduate Chapter, Omicron Delta at our annual Christmas party, and learned
how to become better leaders at our Annual Chapter Leadership Retreat.
As we enter Finer Womanhood Month, we look
forward to our 7th Annual Finer Womanhood
Prayer Breakfast—where we will award scholarships to deserving students. We hope that you
will join us during this exciting time as we continue to strive to be women who stand apart
through our service, scholarly endeavors, and our
commitment to sisterhood.

Thankful for Presents and Love from Zeta

TPZ and its youth got into the holiday spirit as they gave
their time and effort at St. James Church in Chicago on
Christmas Day.
Sorors and youth spent their time sorting through toys,
hats and gloves to give to families in need. Stations were
set-up for individuals to receive Christmas gifts that Santa
Claus left behind. The church was filled with love, warmth
and Christmas cheer.

Toys, Philanthropy, and Zetas

What do you get when you mix toys, burgers,
games, prizes, Santa Claus and the Blue and
White family together? You get Tau Psi Zeta‘s
7th Annual Toy Drive and Raffle, of course! The
holiday fun took place on December 12, 2010 at
Fuddrucker‘s in Calumet City, IL.
This annual event collects new, unwrapped toys
to donate to less fortunate children and families
during the season of giving. This year, thanks to
the generous hearts of attendees, TPZ
collected more than 280 toys, which were
donated to Children‘s Memorial Hospital; La
Rabida Hospital; Hope Village and two adopted
families. This event gets bigger and better
every year.
The fun doesn‘t stop there! The annual raffle gave
lucky ticket buyers the opportunity to win one of three
awesome prizes!
This year‘s winners were: Gas card-Karlisa Williams;
iPod touch-Anthony Richards; TV-Lisha Morris
Proceeds from the raffle ticket sales benefit the
Fervent Hearts Foundation, which awards
scholarships to deserving young women.
Special thanks to the Fundraising committee and it‘s
Chairpersons, Sorors Golliday and McGee for their
efforts in making this annual event a success.
Time and Praise with Zest

On Christmas Day, the ladies of Tau Psi Zeta teamed up with the men of
Beta Phi Pi Fraternity, Inc to serve the less fortunate at the Chicago
Christian Industrial League. It was a day of great service and company
as both organizations combined their efforts to serve the less fortunate.
The day began in the Toy Room where Santa handed out presents and
goodies to the children. TPZ and Beta Phi Pi extended their services in
the kitchen to help serve hot meals. Men, women and children enjoyed
the well-prepared dishes that consisted of dressing, turkey, dinner rolls
and macaroni and cheese.
In the end, people were filled with happiness, joy and good food.

Teaching Parents with Zeal

The ladies of TPZ host monthly Stork‘s Nest sessions at the Jadonal E. Ford Center in Chicago‘s
Roseland neighborhood. The Stork‘s Nest is a
partnership with March of Dimes that encourages
women to seek prenatal care in an effort to prevent birth defects and infant mortality. The
Stork‘s Nest also strives to educate mothers
about healthy living for themselves and their children before and after pregnancy.
In December, the workshop topic was ―Career
and Financial Planning.‖ The participants discussed planning for college, financial aid and attending college as a parent. Sorors Bufford and
Steward answered questions about parenting
while in college from their own personal experiences. Soror Pearson provided pointers on filling out
the FAFSA and applying for scholarships.
To kick off the new year, the focus for January was ―Goal Setting.‖ Attendees created vision boards
and wrote letters to themselves to outline their goals for the year and participated in a discussion
on setting and achieving long and short-term goals.
All participants were excited about creating the vision boards and discussing the positive influences
in their lives.
When asked about someone or something that inspired them, one of the participants, Lavita Grays
said, ―I‘m inspired by the ladies in this sorority, because you take the time to help and teach us.‖
This was a high praise indeed! The success of the workshops is the result of the diligent work of
the Stork‘s Nest Chairpersons, Sorors Craig and Thiam-Hill and the committee.
The next Stork‘s Nest session will be held in March2011.
Tops and Perkiness with Zeta

Every one needs someone or something they can
depend on. Whether it‘s a family member or friend,
everyone needs support. When it comes to a woman,
she needs all the support she can get; especially from
a good bra. TPZ sorors showed full support while volunteering with Support 1000 on December 14, 2010
at United Storage in Chicago. Sorors worked in areas of sorting through bras and packing them up to
be sent to organizations who serve women in need.
Support 1000, 501c organization has donated over
10,000 bras all over the world to schools, churches,
homeless shelters, and other countries.

March is National Nutrition Month and to
jumpstart the month-long celebration of
health and wellness, TPZ hosted a Z-HOPE
Workshop on March 3. The workshop entitled, "Put Down that Fork!" was presented by Soror
Renee Byrd to Project Brotherhood. Project Brotherhood is a community based outreach and prevention
program for African American men residing in Woodlawn and the surrounding neighborhoods on Chicago's
south side.
Together Providing Z-HOPE

The 30+ participants engaged in discussions on healthy
eating habits, exercise, and weight management. The
workshop was so well-received that it yielded a new
partnership between TPZ and Project Brotherhood! TPZ
will facilitate monthly Z-HOPE workshops at two of the
Project Brotherhood locations, with a men-only group
and a co-ed group. This new partnership will increase
healthy habits in communities most affected by obesity-related diseases.

beyond Zeta.

Teaching and Planning with Zeal

On February 23, TPZ hosted their 5th annual Leadership Retreat at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL. This year‘s
theme was ―Bridging the Gap: Leadership and Team Building.‖
The retreat focused on ―Nurturing a Culture of Leadership,
Communication and Sisterhood in TPZ.‖
Soror Johnique Smith kicked the retreat off with a fun exercise.
Each Soror was asked to write down their name on an index
card and list one thing that stresses them while receiving encouraging words from sorors.
The retreat was filled with insightful workshops. The workshops presented were:
*Protocol– Soror Buckner
*Parliamentary Procedures– Soror Walton
*Zeta Resume– Soror Wadlington
*Conflict Resolution & Problem Solving– Soror J. Smith
*Budgeting– Soror Norwood-Baugh
*Social Media– Soror Johnson
Sorors enjoyed a light lunch and great conversation with each other ;but the best was yet to come.
Sorors Bufford and Snyder and committee entertained the chapter with the ‗Pretty Girlz Rock‘ Fashion Show. The fashion show showcased outfits on what to wear and not wear for local, state and national conferences. As well as formal and casual events. The final workshop of the day was the ―Z
Newz Panel.‖ The panel consisted of younger and seasoned sorors who shared their experiences
since joining Zeta.
The evening ended with a fun night of games and conversation amongst sorors. Two doves up to the
Special Events Chairs Sorors Norwood-Baugh and Wells and their committee for a job well-done.
Teaching with a Purpose while being Zealous

Members of Tau Psi Zeta joined Sorors and Amicae in Springfield,
IL to attend the State of Illinois Winter Workshop on February 26 on
the campus of Lincoln Land Community College.
The workshops were divided into two tracks: Royal Blue for the new
and re-claimed sorors and Amicae and Pure White for the seasoned sorors and Amicae with at least five years of Zeta experience. In the Royal Blue track, workshops such as Protocol, Parliamentary procedures attire were presented. The Pure White track provided workshops such as Advanced Parliamentary Procedures, Running an Effective Chapter meeting, Building your Zeta resume,
and Marketing and Fundraising for chapter events. Sorors and Friends also shared ideas to bring back
to their perspective chapters.
Led by Illinois State Director, Renee S. Byrd, the workshop showed that no matter how many years you
have in Zeta , there‘s always something new and exciting to learn.

with
Zest
During the season of giving Tau Psi Zeta‟s Pearlettes and Amicettes didn‟t sit back, they got involved. Approximately
20 of our youth were hard at work giving back to the community and working with the
auxiliary group leadership on strengthening themselves and their communities. Our Pearlettes and Amicettes paid a visit to the patients and residents at the Renaissance Rehabilitation Center. They chatted and tossed balloons with the patients and passed out homemade sugar cookies baked by Amicette Angel Moore that the residents greatly enjoyed.
Our Amicettes also set up a small salon where they painted the residents‟ nails. After going
floor to floor singing Christmas carols, our Zeta Babies enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies.
Residents of the nursing home are still requesting our youth to come back.
Later in December, after a full day of service and delivering toys, Sorors bundled up our
Pearlettes and Amicettes and took them to Lincoln Park Zoo. Our youth bonded in the bitter
cold evening, enjoying the annual Zoo Lights exhibit and the many other activities. The indoor activities allowed them to make holiday decorations and
enjoyed an ice carving show while staying warm with hot
chocolate. Zoo Lights will be an event the youth repeat in the
future. In December, the women of TPZ‟s annual youth etiquette workshop took place at our regular meeting spot, the Avalon library. They were
taught the “Do‟s and Don'ts” of formal dining etiquette. Afterward, the youth decorated
snowflakes in their own unique styles. There was even a surprise visit by Zeta Claus.
After the holidays, our next meeting in January with our youth brought together the TPZ
Amicettes and Archonettes and the Sigma Betas of Iota Nu Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta
Sigma Fraternity, Inc.. In light of our economic climate the Blue and White family felt it prudent we arm our youth
with the knowledge to make educated financial decisions. PNC bank held a financial workshop at the Sigma center.
The representatives discussed checking /savings accounts, credit/debit cards, good and bad debt, and the virtual wallet. In January the youth assisted with unpacking and organizing the new SYS facility. In preparation of Finer Womanhood Month the Pearlettes and Amicettes discussed „What does Finer womanhood mean to you?‟ and „Who is a
Finer woman in your life?‟. Each of our Zeta Babies stood up in front of the group and explained why their mother,
grandmother, aunt and other women were an inspiration to them. In the true spirit of Sisterly Love, after our Amicettes reviewed the principles of the sorority, they worked with our Pearlettes to teach them. Afterwards we all enjoyed
decorating cookies and doughnuts for Valentines Day.
In the coming months our youth will be engage in educational and fun events, including a movie night with sorors
and a Mother‟s Day Tea. They‟ve already started strategizing how to raise funds for the March of Dimes walk in April,
and their money management and entrepreneurial skills will be used when they run their own candy sale during the
April Tau Psi Zeta chapter meeting.

We, the Archonettes of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc,
Alsip IL chapter, have been off to a great start this
year. All of the members of the group did their
research on the history of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,
Inc. and the Archonettes auxiliary. We have
learned many things, including the Five Founders
of the sorority, the shield of the sorority, the “For-Get-Me-Not”
flower, the Archonette motto, pledge, and code, and last but not least
the meaning of our opening and closing prayers. After we learned all
of this wonderful information we had a beautiful induction ceremony prior to receiving our Archonette handbook, certificate, and club hoodie.
Over the last few months the Archonettes have become closer than anyone ever expected. The Archonette
Club of Zeta Phi Beta is for young women who are able to demonstrate their potential for
good leadership and willingness to work as a group. They have completed fundraisers,
service projects, and sisterhood projects.
We had the opportunity to feed the homeless at the Salvation Army.
This particular service project was definitely a success because of the
large numbers of participation from the Archonettes. We have also
completed sisterhood projects. Our first sisterhood project included
the Winter Wonderfest at Navy Pier. For many of the young ladies, this
was their first time riding the Metra train. In addition, the Archonettes attended a step
show which they enjoyed. The step show gave them an idea of some of the fun things
members of Greek letter organizations can participate in. Under the direction of Sorors
Noelle Jones and Johnique Smith and the help of many other fine women of Zeta Phi Beta
Sorority, we, the Archonettes of Tau Psi Zeta Chapter are thankful for support and guidance as we work to understand

The Adult Auxiliary of Tau Psi Zeta Chapter
Seasons of Service: Amicae Annual Coat Drive & Share Your Soles

The Amicae love serving the community. Once again we coordinated our annual coat drive. We had a successful response, collecting 57 coats! The coats were
given to Worth Township who covers twelve
surrounding south suburbs. We also started our first Angel Tree project at
the coat drive. We received 25 children's names and gift request from
Family Focus in the Englewood Community where we provided gifts for
children ages 3 to 15.
On January 29, 2011, we teamed up with the Zetas in a Share Your Soles
Project. Share Your Soles is an organization dedicated to collecting,
cleaning and distributing shoes to those in need. We happily moved our feet
to help in whatever ways we could for this amazing organization. We thank We are looking forward to doing
everyone who has generously supported the efforts of our coat drive and
more service projects and

On December 4, 2010, the Amicae volunteered with
the Alsip Park District’s Rock and Roll Santa Event. We
assisted the attendees with refreshments and directions.
There were 500 families represented and it was an
awesome time seeing the families tour the facility with
the children observing
the different rooms.
Each room was
decorated differently, representing Rock and Roll and Mr.
and Mrs. Claus. A great time was had all the Amicae in
attendance, especially those that got to meet with Santa;
don't worry, all the Amicae were nice this year!

A Semester of Successes — By Soror Charisse Archie
The sorors of Omicron Delta Chapter have been having a successful
semester Spring 2011 so far. They have been very active on Eastern
Illinois University‘s campus through their commitments of
community service, fundraising, Greek unity and educational events. Over the
course of this semester these collegiate Sorors have had a number of
successful events. On January 12th, 2011 Omicron Delta sorors held
their second annual ―Black Greek 101‖ educational forum. Student
attendees were able to learn proper information and dispel misconceptions about fraternities and sororities. The conversations continued
when the ladies hosted Roses are Red, Violets are Blue; Does anyone
show real love to you?”, on February 9, 2011. This event, a relationship forum, was an open discussion about college relationships and society‘s effects of today‘s relationships. But OD
sorors are not all talk. Omicron Delta has been very busy with efforts to raise money for the March of Dimes. The sorors have been collaborating with the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Zeta Nu chapter in a fundraising event
called ― A to Z: Freedom Chains‖ for African American Heritage Month. The event gave students the opportunity to express what freedom means to them while having an outlet to donate to the March of Dimes. The service continued on
February 19th as Omicron Delta once again traveling to Jefferson Elementary school to participate in their annual ―Chili
Supper‖. Omicron Delta looks forward to more great events and service opportunities, including celebrating their
Spring Zeta Week on March 20th – 26th.
Congratulations to Charisse Archie, as she is
being recognized at the 2011 Tau Psi Zeta Finer
Womanhood Breakfast for having the highest
GPA. Charisse, a Junior majoring in Applied
Engineering Technology with a concentration in
Digital Printing, Imaging, and Web Technology
and a minor in Advertising currently has a cumulative GPA of a
3.08. Soror Archie is the Historian and Public Relations Chair of
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Omicron Delta Chapter. She also
holds the position of Public Relations and Marketing Chair for
the Black Student Union and serves as a Microsoft Student
Representative on EIU‘s Campus. Soror Archie is a funny, loving, nice, sweet, hard-working person. In her spare time she enjoys going out on the town, shopping, sleeping, and having fun
with her OD Sorors..
Celebrating the Season with Sorors

The holidays are a time for laughter and fun, food
and friends. The sorors of Omicron Delta sure
got lots all of that when they enjoyed a holiday
party with their graduate chapter, Tau Psi Zeta on
December 19, 2010. Coordinated by Soror Chasity Peace, OD‘s Graduate Advisor, this was a
wonderful event; the OD sorors enjoyed tasty soul

Soror Spotlight: Jaleesha Maury — By Soror Charisse Archie
Soror Jaleesha Maury is known by her peers as being a leader who possesses many positive qualities,
which led to her nomination and coronation as Eastern Illinois University 2010‘s homecoming queen. Soror Maury is a senior hospitality major with a minor business, is known for both her leadership and active
roles on campus during her college career. She is the current President of the Omicron Delta Chapter,
and also served as the Eastern Illinois University‘s National Pan-Hellenic Council 2009-2010 President.
She is also a faithful member of the Black Student Union, which is the Organization who nominated Soror
Maury for 2010 Homecoming Court.

Toasting the Past with Zeta– Founders’ Day Celebration

Every year during the month of January, members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and Phi Beta
Sigma Fraternity, Inc., the Chicagoland Graduate
chapters gather together to celebrate and honor the
Founders of the two illustrious organizations.
The celebration kicked off with a Joint Founders
Day Sip on January 8 at the Sigma house. Exclusively for Zetas and Sigmas only, the evening
started off with a rededication ceremony. Following
the rededication ceremony, members of the blue
and white family ate, danced and laughed the night
away. This was just the beginning for a great Founders celebration.
On January 14, the dovely ladies of Tau Psi Zeta celebrated 91 years of Finer Womanhood at G
Cues Billiards in Chicago‘s west loop as part of the Founders weekend celebration. The men of Phi
Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., also celebrated 97 years of service.
The Blue and White family packed the house that night! Laughter, jokes and many photos were
shared and taken. Sorors and Frat enjoyed the evening with great music, conversation and food.
Arthur Horton of Iota Nu Sigma, spoke of his fun-filled evening with sorors and frat. ―Very memorable!
I will never take for granted the time I spent with my Blue and White Family.‖
Tau Psi Zeta and Iota Nu Sigma members set an unprecedented mark in honoring Founders Day in a
laid back atmosphere.
The celebration concluded on January 22 at the 11th Annual Joint Founders‘ Day banquet at Niko‘s
Restaurant & Banquets in Bridgeview, IL. The ladies of Zeta and the men of Sigma paid homage to
their founders and reflected on the founding principals. Attendees enjoyed the night with a raffle
drawing, a libation ceremony, the singing of the Fraternity and Sorority National Hymns and dancing.

Collier, who provided the inspirational invocation.
As a strong bond filled the room, TPZ‘s Amicae President Karen Plunkett shared her excitement. ―This is a great celebration because
Zeta and Sigma are the only joint Greeks and Blue and White are awesome.‖
The Founders‘ Day events turned out to be a great success—looking forward to next year.
