The Strong Family The Strong Family Jon is originally from Jamestown, NY and Yvonne is originally from Watertown, NY, having moved to Albany, NY in the 3rd grade. Jon and Yvonne met at Roberts Wesleyan College in 1987, began dating in 1989 and were married in 1991. They began attending Park Ridge FM Church as new college students Jon, Yvonne, Morgan, Luke and have never left! Jon ran a pizzeria for 10 years before becoming a Monroe County Sheriff in 1996. Yvonne worked a couple of different jobs before starting to work at Roberts Wesleyan College, where she has worked for 15 years. Jon is on the board for the Gates Chili Junior Spartans Basketball league and organizes the PRFMC softball teams. For recreation he enjoys playing basketball, softball, golf, and spending time with friends. Yvonne enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time with friends. They have two teenage children, Morgan (18) and Luke (16). Morgan and Luke both enjoy volunteering for children’s ministries at the church. Morgan has always been a good sport about following her younger brother around at his sporting events by being involved in different ways such as keeping score for his team or videotaping for coaches. Morgan loves to babysit, enjoys working at Wegman’s and is very excited about graduating from Gates Chili High School this year and attending Roberts Wesleyan College in the fall to study nursing, hoping to work as a pediatric or neonatal nurse. Luke enjoys sports, having played JV basketball and golf most recently, hoping to play Varsity this coming year. He always looks forward to the church’s softball season and recently began working at the Chili Country Club. Tim is originally from Jamestown, NY. He started attending Park Ridge FM Church in 1989-90 as a sophomore at Roberts Wesleyan College. His initial draw to Park Ridge were the many doughnuts before Sunday School, as well as the young adult class Tim, Karina, Ryan taught by Roger and Ginnie Jarvis. Tim worked for Nortel Networks out of college and then contracted with Xerox and Ortho Clinical Diagnostics. He is currently contracting at Carestream Health. At Park Ridge Tim has served as the dispersing treasurer for the past 20 or so years. He also serves as the lead audio and video tech, the treasurer for the New Day Christian Preschool, website administrator and serves on the ALT and MLT boards. Tim’s interests include bicycling, bowling, RC flying, photography, amateur radio, astronomy, learning to play the guitar and anything else tech. Tim has two teenage children, Karina (17) and Ryan (15). Both Karina and Ryan have enjoyed being in the Powerhouse youth program at Park Ridge. Karina enjoys music, attending Christian rock concerts, and being with friends. Ryan enjoys playing soccer, concert band and marching band where he plays the trumpet, playing video games and having fun with his friends. Starting on Father’s Day and continuing through Labor Day light refreshments will be offered immediately following the morning services. This would be a time to greet and connect with one another. The refreshments could include fruit, muffins, sweet breads, coffee cake, veggies, bagels, and would serve 50 people or so. Beverage will be provided. If you would like to sign up for one or a couple of Sundays or would like to provide some sweet breads that could be frozen in advance to use, please email the church office or let Patty Stoffel know. 2 C GRADUATION SUNDAY - June 8 Best wishes to the following graduates: High School Gabriella Kettinger – Home Schooled She will be attending Roberts Wesleyan College in the fall majoring in Nursing. Twelve members from the church and three others will be spending a week running a Family Camp for a group of 70+ people from inner-city Dublin. The purpose of the camp is to offer moms, dads, sons and daughters, in a family setting, the opportunity to grow together in the things of God, in an atmosphere of mutual trust, safety and support. Each of the families comes from an area of great social need where levels of crime, unemployment, truancy, violence and substance abuse are much higher than the national average. Many do their best to survive but face a constant temptation to stray to the wrong side of the law. Please be praying for our team as we prepare to minister to these families. The cost for the team to make the trip and provide the resources for the week is $15,400. We are very pleased to have raised over three quarters of that need already through our two fundraisers, the Garage Sale and BBQ/Silent Auction, and personal letters sent to family and friends. Our current remaining need is $2,678, and we would also like to be able to leave a gift for the continuing work of the mission. If you would like to make a donation to the team you can do so at any time, note “Ireland Missions Team” on your check or on offering envelope. On Sunday, June 15 we will be taking a special offering for the team at the end of the service. Michelle Kettinger The Gallery at Park Ridge The Gallery Girls wish to thank everyone who came out in support of our fundraiser for the Ireland Missions Team on May 16. Thank you also to those who donated merchandise, baked goods, and their time. Several people also solicited area businesses for gift cards and certificates which were raffled off. It appeared that everyone had a fun time and good food from Sticky Lips! Thank you to those who contributed to the “Spring/Easter” gallery. We have now opened the “Favorite Person, Place or Pet” photo gallery. If you have a framed photo you wish to display, please do so! All you need to do is see one of the Gallery Girls (June Harris, Sue Henry or me) to obtain the paperwork which you must fill out and submit with your photo. That’s it! I know there are many photographers in our congregation! Joyce Gallagher A GREAT MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATION We celebrated Mother’s Day by presenting to all the ladies present a potted plant. We had one work day with Tammy Hoffman, David Stiffler, Todd Zimmerman, Jason Bugajski, Doug Williams, and Pastor Deano helping out. Thank you all very much. I am scheduling Monday, June 2 (rain date June 9) from 4:00 - 7:00 pm to finish with raking, window washing, flower planting, bush trimming, etc. If you can give even one hour of your time, that would be awesome! Please email or call me if you can assist. The handicap accessible bathroom project is moving forward with lots of help from Rick Stoffel and David Stiffler where we are in the permit stages with the Town of Greece. The Decorating Committee has met and chosen the flooring, wall colors, etc. Thank you to Joyce Gallagher, Joyce Jarvis, Michelle Kettinger and our newest member, Sue Henry. Carolyn Stiffler, Lead Trustee We just held our Moving Up and Graduation ceremonies. The kids did great job and had so much fun! The kids and the families will be missed this summer. Thank you so much to everyone who has been involved with and has helped with the preschool this year. It is greatly appreciated! Now onto preparing for next year. We have officially filled both our classes for the fall, so we're very excited for the new year to begin and to see our families and students. Lori Williams, Director Children’s Ministries Kids Praise Days Kids Praise Days will be sharing on Father's Day! All those kids who participated in Kids Praise leading up to the Easter Pageant have learned the song, so plan to participate with us and share a little Good News with Dad! Wednesday Night Kid’s Club Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. Philippians 2:15,16 What a great year we had! Just like squirrels gather nuts to have ready when times get tough and they need them, the kids hid MANY verses of God’s Word in their hearts, which will be ready when times get tough and they need them in the future! (No, I did not say the kids were squirrely, I said they were like squirrels...) We studied the Gospels this year, learning to whom they were written, and about Jesus' name, family, friends, travels and teaching. we held our first “Bible Bowl” (like a mini quiz), and had our CLC focus each month. Honor Council was held on Wednesday, April 30, and many kids earned many badges and awards. I am SO PROUD! We’ll pick it up again in the fall! Special Thanks to Tracy Davis, Michelle Baretela, Mary Jane Strong, Jill Romberg, Wendy Strong, Jason Strong, Todd Davis and Matt Trost for committing to teaching and being godly examples to these children every week of WNKC! Way to Shine like Stars! Sunday School Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the L. Psalm 34:11 June 8 will be our last Sunday School class, and then we’ll break for summer. The kids are so blessed to have caring teachers who prepare special lessons with the kids’ interests, personalities and abilities in mind. They studied God’s plan for friendship and families, Jesus’ miracles, and some of them focused on The Story from a little different angle. Special Thanks to Tammy Hoffman, Katie Buettner, Wendy Strong, and Rick Stoffel. Our kids are blessed! Children’s Church These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children...Deuteronomy 6:6, 7 Both PreK-K and Elementary Children’s Church have been working on learning the Verse of the Month. Check out the Kid’s Corner of the bulletin to keep track of what the verse is. You can earn a prize if you learn the verse! We got a hear start on The Story curriculum back in the fall, and the teachers and kids alike have enjoyed the format. We’ll be moving on to a little more hands-on learning for the PreK-K kids soon and Kids Connections for the elementary kids. So, Parents, be on the lookout for Connection Papers so you can keep Connected with what your kids are learning. The teachers all bring a different perspective in the way they present their lessons and it keeps the stories fresh and new for the kids. They all spend time preparing lessons that make the Worship Service as meaningful as in the Sanctuary. Special Thanks to Lori Williams, Katie Buettner, Morgan Strong, Michelle Krikorian, Susan Solt, Matt Trost and ALL the assistants for sharing the talents and abilities with which God has blessed you! I loved taking the time to look at the miracles of Jesus, and learning about the commonality, the differences, and the purposes between each miracle example. The students have been able to provide excellent insight and have been actively engaged throughout the year, and it is always a joy. To see the growth that takes place throughout the school year. We are looking forward to the summer and the next school year. Keep your eyes pealed for some events that will be taking place this summer! Pastor Shane Missions Embracing Options Baby Bottle fundraiser is underway. Please pick up a bottle in the narthex to fill with change, bills or a check then return it by Sunday, June 15. Embracing Options is a community outreach of His Branches whose mission is to reach the culture of today with positive life affirming choices relating to pregnancy and sexual activity. Offices are located in the city at 342 Arnett Boulevard and in Webster at 35 Curtice Park. The Chicken BBQ and Silent Auction fundraiser for the Ireland Missions Trip Team raised over $1,700!! The Ireland Team worked hard at the BBQ serving 300 meals, advertising on the street corner, directing traffic in the parking lot, etc. The “Gallery Girls” (Joyce Gallagher, Sue Henry and June Harris) did a great job organizing and running the Silent Auction and Raffle. Thank you, Ladies! If you missed out on all the fun, but would like to make a donation towards the missions trip you may do so by writing your check to Park Ridge Free Methodist Church, and on the memo line write “Ireland Trip”. As important and necessary as the fundraisers are for the trip, let’s remember prayer is even more important and necessary. Only 10 ½ weeks until they leave.
