Keep Pounding has become a Carolina Panthers mantra in
honor of late Panthers player and coach Sam Mills. Mills
first used the phrase “Keep Pounding” as a coach, in an
emotional speech to the team on Jan. 2, 2004 during the
Panthers vs. Cowboys playoff game. Mills spoke about commitment, dedication to teammates, team effort and never
giving up… he asked players to “Keep Pounding”. Immediately following the coin toss, please turn your attention to
the 25-yard line at the Southeast end of the stadium.
Six year-old Braylon Beam, who first garnered national attention during an appearance on The Ellen Show, returns to
Bank of America Stadium to serve as today’s Keep Pounding
Drummer. Braylon served as the team’s Make-A-Wish Head
Coach during the team’s Fan Fest practice in August and
stole the show with his incredible dance moves.

2015 PANTHERS COACHES
RON
RIVERA
HEAD COACH
Ron Rivera was named the fourth coach in Carolina Panthers history on January 11, 2011. In four seasons with Carolina,
Rivera has guided the team to two NFC South Division titles and two playoff appearances. In 2014, Rivera’s coaching helped
the Panthers to became the first team in NFC South history to win consecutive division championships and Carolina won its
first playoff game since 2005. Since 2011, Rivera’s 15-3 record in December is tied for best in the NFL (Belichick, Carroll).
In 2013, Rivera was named NFL Coach of the Year after directing Carolina to 12 wins, the NFC South title and the playoffs.
Before joining the Panthers, Rivera served two stints as a defensive coordinator, first with the Chicago Bears from 2004-06
and then with the San Diego Chargers from midway through the 2008 season until the end of 2010. Rivera also coached as
an assistant with the Chargers, the Bears, and the Philadelphia Eagles. A second-round draft choice of Chicago in 1984,
Rivera played nine seasons as a linebacker with the Bears and was a member of the Super Bowl XX championship team.

TOW LIKE A PRO.
Precision. It’s what makes us Professional Grade. Precision you’ll find in our
belief that good is a world away from great. And precision you’ll find in the
2015 GMC Sierra 3500HD Crew Cab, which offers a maximum fifth-wheel or
gooseneck trailer weight rating of up to 22,900 lbs.* A meticulously engineered
available Duramax 6.6L V-8 Turbo Diesel gets Sierra HD up to speed with 765 lb-ft
of torque. And an integrated trailer brake controller works seamlessly with
ABS to ensure that stopping is just as precise. When it comes to towing the
big loads, the pros know: precision matters.
THE NEW GMC SIERRA DENALI HD. THAT’S PROFESSIONAL GRADE.
* Requires 3500HD Crew Cab Dual Rear Wheel 2WD with
available Duramax 6.6L V-8 Turbo Diesel engine. Before
you buy a vehicle or use it for trailering, carefully review
the trailering section of the Owner’s Manual. The weight of
passengers, cargo and options or accessories may reduce
the amount you can tow. ©2015 General Motors. All rights

AROUND THE NFL
Hispanic Heritage Month
The NFL is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month during Week 3 of
the 2015 season. A national spotlight will be shined on the NFL’s
celebration during Thursday Night Football, Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football. The New York Giants will host
the Washington Redskins on Thursday, September 24, the Denver
Broncos will visit the Detroit Lions on Sunday, September 27, and
the Green Bay Packers will take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, September 28.
The NFL’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month dates back to
2002 when then-Commissioner Paul Tagliabue made it a league
priority to serve the Hispanic market, forming an internal task
force of league and club executives to analyze the NFL’s activities, consult with leaders in the HispanicAmerican community, and recommend a comprehensive approach toward the future. The initiative has
continued to grow annually since then.
Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1984, becoming the first
NFL player of Puerto Rican and Mexican descent. In 2011, he was hired as the head coach of the Panthers,
becoming just the third Latino to become a NFL head coach.
Coach Rivera is not only known as a successful head coach and former NFL player but is also acknowledged for the time and effort he dedicates to the community. During his tenure as an NFL player, Rivera
was named the Chicago Bears’ Man of the Year in 1988 and was awarded the Ed Block Courage Award in
1989. As a head coach, Rivera and his wife, Stephanie, continue to devote their free time to giving back
to the community.
Throughout his life, Rivera has been surrounded by the military and he proudly exemplifies the traits of
someone in the Armed Forces. His father was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952 and served 32 years,
which resulted in Rivera spending most of his childhood on military bases around the world. Upon being named the Panthers head coach in 2010, Rivera
immediately embraced the large military contingent in
the Carolinas. Since his first visit to Fort Bragg with NFL
Commissioner Roger Goodell in 2011, Rivera has made
annual base visits a priority. In addition to base visits, he
has hosted 45 military groups at practices, games and
other team functions. Rivera and his wife serve as USO
(United Service Organizations) of North Carolina ambassadors. During the 2014 season, he was selected as the
Panthers’ Salute to Service Award nominee.
Rivera also aids in raising funds for the USO of North
Carolina and the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte
through an annual charity bowling tournament and his
involvement in the Fore the Troop Golf Tournament in
Charlotte. In March, Rivera delivered a leadership lessons seminar to USO members in Charlotte, and informed
over 100 human resources professionals the benefits and
advantages of hiring veterans.

SEAN
PAYTON
HEAD COACH
Sean Payton was named the 14th head coach in Saints history on Jan. 18, 2006 and has led the team to five playoff appearances, three NFC South titles,
two NFC Championship berths and the Super Bowl XLIV title. Payton earned unanimous NFL Coach of the Year honors in his first season in 2006 and
received the same honors from some outlets in 2009. Considered one of the NFL’s brightest offensive minds, the Saints have ranked among the league’s
top ten offenses each season since his arrival, including finishing first in the NFL (with a league record 7,474 yards) in 2011, in addition to 2009, 2008
and 2006. With the Dallas Cowboys (2003-05), Payton served as the assistant head coach/passing game coordinator in 2005 after spending his first two
seasons as assistant head coach/quarterbacks. Payton coached four years with the New York Giants (1999-2002), the last three seasons as offensive
coordinator, and was quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles (1997-98). Payton played collegiately at Eastern Illinois, where he departed with
a school-record 10,665 passing yards, then the third-highest total in NCAA Division I-AA history. A three-time All-American, Payton had brief playing
stops with Chicago of the Arena League, the CFL’s Ottawa Rough Riders and the Chicago Bears in 1987. Payton coached collegiately at San Diego State
(1988-89, 1992-93), Indiana State (1990-91), Miami (Ohio) in 1994-95, and Illinois (1996).

COACH OF THE WEEK SPOTLIGHT
Carolina Panthers Coaches of the Week
By Nick Markunas
The Carolina Panthers High School Coach of the Week program recognizes high school coaches
who, through their hard work and dedication to young people, have made a difference in the lives
of their players, school and community. This program also provides high schools with financial
assistance to help maintain and upgrade their football programs.
Coach Eric Morman
West Stanly Hill High School
The Carolina Panthers are proud to announce the selection of Coach
Eric Morman of West Stanly Hill High School (Oakboro, NC) as the team’s
third High School Coach of the Week for the 2015 season. Coach Morman is in his first year as the Colts head football coach.
Morman is facing the challenge of rebuilding the Colts’ football program that was unable to field a JV team last season for the first time in
school history due to lack of participation. In this regard, he has already
made an immediate impact, as his upbeat coaching style has resonated
with the students. Coach Morman was able to draw the highest summer workout attendance in the last decade, and that interest has carried over into the season
as the Colts are fielding both varsity and junior varsity teams again this year. “Coach Morman
inspires our student athletes to go beyond the playing field to find success and is the ultimate
role model. He has the uncanny ability to positively motivate others and has brought a new sense
of energy, pride and confidence to our football program,” said West Stanly’s athletic director Liz
Eudy. “He embraces coaching styles that encourage questions athletes may have in learning as
he teaches the game instead of discouraging them through intimidation or impatience.” Morman
has coached the Colts to a 2-2 record to start the season.
Off the field, Morman is invested to be a leader and educator for not only the football team,
but for the whole West Stanly High School community. “Eric is a great communicator and team
player…he has reached out to coaches of other sports in order to work together with multi-sport
athletes and in support of other sports,” said Eudy. Morman and his coaching staff worked to
completely renovate and restore the athletic department’s field house, volunteering their time
to create facility that instills pride for their student athletes. Morman brings the passion he
displays on the field to the classroom. “He is an incredible teacher and educator. He is willing to
go above and beyond for students and staff members, and he reaches those students that many
teachers cannot, including those with special needs.”
In recognition of Coach Morman’s contributions to his school and community, the Carolina Panthers will donate $1,000 to West Stanly High School to support the school’s athletic department.
Coach Morman and the other 2015 Carolina Panthers High School Coach of the Week honorees
will all be recognized during a Panthers home game later this season.
The 2015 High School Coach of the Week program is a joint initiative of the Carolina Panthers
and the National Football League. The program is designed to recognize and reward North and
South Carolina high school coaches who have created successful programs for teams and players both on and off of the playing field. This includes coaches that champion philosophies which
advance and promote player health and safety.

COACH OF THE WEEK SPOTLIGHT (CONT.)
Coach Joey Price
Wallace-Rose Hill High School
The Carolina Panthers are proud to announce the selection of Coach
Joey Price of Wallace-Rose Hill High School (Teachey, NC) as a recipient of the team’s High School Coach of the Week honor for the 2015
season. Coach Price is in his seventh year as the Bulldogs head
football coach.
Price has compiled the highest winning percentage of any active
coach in North or South Carolina with a 210-40 record. During the
course of his 17-year career, Coach Price’s teams have won 14 conference championships, played in nine state semi-finals, four state
championship games and have won three state titles. He was the winning coach at the
East-West All Star Game in 2012 as well as the Shrine Bowl in 2002. This season, Price has
coached the Bulldogs to a 3-1 start.
Off the field, Coach Price stresses the importance of community relationships and responsibilities to his players. His student athletes have achieved a 100% graduation rate for 16 out
of his 17 years of coaching. The football team volunteers at the Clothes Closet of Wallace, a
local charity clothing store, and mentors local elementary school students. Coach Price has
served as a Fellowship of Christian Athletes Huddle Leader for the past 20 years and has
played a key role in providing a free annual FCA little league football camp. “Coach Price
is a servant leader and has a heart for young people. Every summer the football team takes
on projects such as power washing elderly people’s homes, helping families move, cleanup
projects around town and many more,” said Jemma Imwalle, whose son plays for the Bulldogs. “He has instilled in kids how to give back to their community.”
In recognition of Coach Price’s contributions to his school and community, the Carolina Panthers will donate $1,000 to Wallace-Rose Hill High School to support the school’s athletic
department. Coach Price and the other 2015 Carolina Panthers High School Coach of the
Week honorees will all be recognized during a Panthers home game later this season.

Q&A with JOSH NORMAN
What is the biggest lesson you have learned since
playing in the NFL?
The biggest lesson that I have learned is that you
can’t run as fast as you think and you can’t walk as
slow as you think, but within everything be conscious
of your surroundings and what you do because it affects you every day.
Who encourages you the most within the Panthers
organization and why?
I think my teammates. Every year you are able to see
a new face and realize that I once was there and now
I have been able to move myself up another level. I
now know more because of that. A couple guys in the
organization like (Player Engagement Director) Mark
Carrier that I talked to help me.
This week, GameTime catches up with cornerback
Joshn Norman. Drafted by Carolina in 2012, Norman
talks about his Carolina roots, attending Coastal Carolina and his horses.
How do you feel about growing up, attending college and now playing professional football all in
the Carolinas?
It feels awesome. I think I am the only one who has
other than Brenton Bersin. So far it has been a weird,
but great roller coaster.
If someone did not know who Josh Norman was,
what would you want them to know about you?
That guy is something else. He is an animal on the
field. Off the field, he is the nicest guy. He is your
best friend, pal and bud.
Do you go home or have your family come to visit
you a lot in Charlotte since you are so close to
where you grew up?
Oh yeah, my family comes up a lot. I am big on la
familia. That is me right there, all day—God, family
and then football.
While attending college at Coastal Carolina, did
you go to the beach a lot?
Yes. The beach was my remedy. It was my mellowness to all of the hype, hoopla and the drama on
the field with football and the grind of life. Going
to the beach was the way to get away and clear my
mind. It was nice to settle in the serene calmness
of the ocean.
You are known by your teammates as someone
that keeps everyone laughing and smiling. Have
you always been known as that type of person by
your friends and family?
Yes. I don’t meet strangers too often, I really don’t. I
try to be cheerful and joyful. I try to have a smile on
my face. People know when something is wrong with
me because I tend to wear my feelings on my sleeve
a good bit. I work so hard for everything I get and I
try to instill that in everything I do. If I want to make
a friend, I work hard to make that friend. If it doesn’t
work then I go find another one. It is just the life that
God has given me to reach out and help others. It is
my passion to help others, and that is why I believe
that I am here on Earth.
Why did you choose to minor in dramatic arts during college?
Because I just love acting. I see the guys on
television, and I think to myself, that is what I want
to do. I wanted to be in acting but then football took
over. I had to minor in it because dramatic arts was
running into football, so I didn’t have time to be on
the stage in plays and stuff like that. If I would’ve
went with it, I am sure I would’ve made a little spot
in Hollywood somewhere doing something.
What is the hardest part about playing in the NFL?
The hardest part about playing in the NFL is that every day you have to bring your A-game. There are no
off days. Staying consistent in that is like nothing
else I have ever been a part of. It is like nothing else
I have ever done in my life. You have to bring your Agame every day and be consistent because someone
else is trying to take your job, and you have to be
better than them every day when you walk in.
49
Q&A with JOSH NORMAN (continued)
What do you enjoy doing when you have a day off
or a break from football?
Relaxing, listening to music and watching movies. I
am a big movie buff. If I have my horse close, I jump
on him and go ride. I am a horse guy, so if I have my
horse around, I am going to get on him and take off.
What sparked your interest in horses, and when
did you decide you were going to get some of your
own?
I grew up with horses ever since I was a little baby.
My dad raised them. I was always into horses. It was
nothing for me because it was the life that I was
born into. I have thirteen horses, but at one time we
had twenty-five of them.
things, because that is just radical. I knocked a lot of
the things off the list. Anything going fast is something that I am interested in. I went surfing, skiing,
snowboarding and speed boating. A lot of those were
on my bucket list, but I kind of knocked them all off
in one year. I just have to run with the bulls and
travel more.
What do you want to do when you retire from football?
I want to travel the world. I want to go to Europe
- Spain, South America - Brazil, Africa and definitely
Australia. I want to touch every continent.
Do you have a bucket list? If so, what are a few of
the things that you have listed on it?
Yes I do. I knocked some of them off during this past
summer. I drove a racecar, jumped out of a plane
and went skydiving. One of them on the list now is
to run with the bulls in Spain. I think that would be
so fun. Traveling the world is on the ultimate bucket
list. I have to travel the world and do all kinds of

MICK’S BAG by Mick Mixon
Harper’s Hope
Because of history with the New Orleans Saints,
Panther safety Roman Harper has two big hopes
today.
First, he hopes for a Panther victory on the field
against his old team. Then, he hopes for a Panther
victory in the community with his new one.
“As NFL players, we are so fortunate,” Harper said
Monday night on ‘Panther Talk.’ “We are fortunate
to play this great game and to have the relationships with each other that we develop. So many
times, though, we run into kids who have not been
as fortunate. Sometimes when I look into their faces, I’m reminded of myself at a young age. I meet
kids who want to learn, they want to be successful, but in some cases their lives are complicated
by distractions.”
To help strike a blow against that, Harper is proud
to bring his ‘Harper’s Hope 4*1 Foundation’ to the
Carolinas.
“My mom and I started Harper’s Hope in 2009,”
Harper said. “Our mission is to empower and
inspire youth through various educational and
recreational programs. Our foundation exists to
prepare kids for tomorrow by providing them with
the tools they’ll need to be successful in a pressure-packed world through various community
programs. The Foundation aims to be a prominent
organization that serves as a leader in making a
positive, lasting impact on youth and communities. A great example is our ‘Reading with Roman’
program, where we get into the schools with the
kids and expose them to the joy of reading!”
Harper’s Hope is also involved with 7 on 7 football
camps and the foundation contributes generously
in the form of various educational grants.
“Ever since he’s been with our organization, Roman and his wife, Heather, have been absolute
joys to work with,” said Sarah Szabo of the Panthers community relations department. “With Roman’s commitment to community service, he fits
the mold of a Carolina Panther player perfectly,
just as Thomas Davis, Charles Tillman, Greg Olsen
and so many others do!”
Harper’s Hope has a big event coming up that is
your opportunity to have fun and get involved!
“That’s right, our annual ‘Hope for Tomorrow’
Celebrity Servers Benefit Dinner is scheduled for
Monday night, October 26th at Fahrenheit Restaurant on South Caldwell Street in Charlotte,” Harper said. “I’ll have lots of my teammates there to
trade their helmets and jerseys in for napkins and
aprons, and we’ll be your servers for the evening!
I am so excited to partner with my teammates and
host this event for a second year. Our spirit of giving and commitment to building the next generation of leaders will further the Foundation’s impact
on young scholars in our region!”
Guests will not only be treated to first-rate service
from Roman and his Panther teammates, patrons
will also enjoy a silent and a live auction, and a
four-course dinner with wine!

opportunities, email Roman at:

KEEP POUNDING AUCTION
Keep Pounding has become a team mantra in honor
of late Carolina Panthers player and coach Sam Mills.
Mills first used the phrase “Keep Pounding” as a
coach in an emotional speech to the team prior to the
Panthers’ playoff game versus the Dallas Cowboys on
January 2, 2004. He spoke about commitment, dedication to teammates, team effort and never giving up.
Mills asked the players to “Keep Pounding.”
The spirit of Keep Pounding encourages cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones to always “Keep
Pounding” to overcome obstacles in their lives, just as
we hope that someday a cure will be found and cancer
will be overcome.
Similarly, the on-going mission of Keep Pounding is
to raise vital funds for important cancer research and
patient support programs for the Levine Cancer Institute at Carolinas Medical Center. Panthers fans have
supported the initiative in a variety of ways. Contributions are generated through team fundraisers, the assistance of team partners and valued donations from
community organizations and individuals.
One of the primary fundraising mechanisms for the
Keep Pounding Fund is the online Keep Pounding Auction, hosted by NFL Auction. Unique Panthers memorabilia – including autographed jerseys, helmets, and
footballs – in addition to one-of-a-kind experiences,
such as pre-game field passes, are auctioned off
each week, with all proceeds benefitting the Keep
Pounding Fund.
During the 2015 season, all proceeds raised through
the auction will benefit pancreatic cancer research efforts at the Levine Cancer Institute in honor of Mickey
Rivera, late brother of Panthers Head Coach Mickey
Rivera.
Be sure to visit the Carolina Panthers Keep Pounding
Auction website at NFL.com/Auction throughout the
season and help us Keep Pounding towards a cure!
