Arrive in Buenos Aires’ Ezeiza International Airport, collect your luggage and board the motor-coach for your transfer to the historical center of Buenos Aires to visit the Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenos Aires, where our first Mass* is celebrated in a spirit of thanksgiving for a safe arrival. This original church located in this same spot was founded in 1580, belonging to the Diocese of Asunción (the current Capital of Paraguay). Buenos Aires became an offshoot Diocese of Asunción in 1620, by Pope Paul V (the same Pope who built the current facade of St. Peter’s in the Vatican). The current neoclassical look was designed in the 18th century. This Church has the “cathedra”, which is the seat of the Cardinal Archbishop of Buenos Aires, who until March 13th, 2013 (3/13/13) was the Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, our current Holy Father, Pope Francis. After Mass, enjoy a restful lunch with your pilgrim group, followed by a transfer to your hotel for a well deserved rest. After a leisure afternoon, join your group for dinner this evening as you adjust to the Argentinian meal times. (M, L, D) Buenos Aires Day 3) Saturday, April 2nd: Shrine of Our Lady of Luján & St. Susana Ranch. After breakfast, depart the Buenos Aires City Limits, for the town of Luján, site of Argentina’s most famous Marian Shrine, Our Lady of Luján, Patroness of Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. Learn about the the fascinating story of our Lady’s sculpture (the Immaculate Conception), and about the different Popes who have honored her, as well as a personal visit by an Italian Priest, Fr. Giovanni Maria Mastai-Ferreti, who 26 years later, as Pope Pius IX, declared the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception. The Holy Mother Church has a long standing tradition of dedicating Saturdays to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and so, as faithful children of the Church and Mary herself, we visit her shrine on this Saturday to celebrate Mass*. Mass will be concelebrated with one of the Shrine’s Priests. After our visit to Luján, we travel to the Estancia of Santa Susana for an unforgettable lunch! Where have the cowboys gone? They are here in Argentina! We call them “Gauchos” and they will put together a demonstration show of their abilities as well as their local folkloric dances. This memorable cultural experience will be a highlight of your pilgrimage! (B, L) Estancia Santa Susana Day 4) Sunday, April 3rd, 2016 (Divine Mercy Sunday): Shrine of Divine Mercy & Buenos Aires Panoramic Tour. After breakfast, depart for the first ever parish in Argentina to be dedicated to the Divine Mercy! “Santuario de Jesus Misericordioso” is the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Divine Mercy Sunday Mass* is to be concelebrated here. There will be time for Confessions, pray the Chaplet and personal prayers. After our visit to the shrine, enjoy a panoramic city tour of this great city of Good Airs (Buenos Aires). Return to your hotel for dinner. (B, D) Day 5) Monday, April 4th, 2016: Pope Francis Life & El Tigre. Start the day with a tour of the life of Jorge Bergoglio! Later we visit the “Barrio de Devotos”, where Archbishop Bergoglio used to wash the feet of prison inmates on Holy Thursday, a tradition he carried to Rome as Pope. See the seminary where at 22 years of age, a youing Jorge Bergoglio decided to become a Jesuit. Pray before the image of one the Pope’s favorite devotions, Our Lady Undoer of Knots (Virgen Desatanudos) which was brought from Germany under his own initiative, and it became one of the most popular devotions in the city. Then visit the Barrio San Nicolas (St. Nicolas Neighborhood) to see the Plaza of the Vatican State, built as a monument in honor of the Holy Father. After passing by the Metropolitan Catedral (visited on day 2) where the Cardinal Bergoglio offered Mass for 20 years, we view the Archbishopric of Buenos Aires, place of residence of Cardinal Bergoglio until he was elected as Pope Francis.
