Sofitel Girls’ Day Out features four Group
races, including the headline Group 1
Makybe Diva Stakes, regarded as one
of the pivotal races of the spring. The
Makybe Diva Stakes marks the beginning
of quality middle distance racing for
the season. Won by racing royalty such
as Southern Speed, Shocking, Weekend
Hussler and Northerly in recent years, the
1600m weight for age feature is a race
that commonly unearths an heir to the
throne of spring.

The racing world is out in force for
Turnbull Stakes Day at Flemington,
featuring the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes.
This magnificent race card boasts more
than $1.75 million in prizemoney and
is the first feature 2000 metre race of
the spring.
The Turnbull Stakes has been a
tremendous guide to winners of major
spring races and in recent years, has
provided multiple winners of the
Emirates Melbourne Cup. The all black
type race schedule which includes the
Blazer Stakes, Edward Manifold Stakes
and Gilgai Stakes confirms Turnbull
Stakes Day as one of the finest on the
Australian racing calendar.

Regarded as one of the most prestigious
days of racing in Australasia, featuring a
card of nine Group races, four at the elite
Group 1 level. The feature Group 1 AAMI
Victoria Derby – worth over AUD $1.5
million – is Australia’s premier staying
classic for three-year-olds.
The Emirates Melbourne Cup is the
crowning glory and focal point of the
Melbourne Cup Carnival. While most of
Australia stops to watch or listen to the
race, there’s nothing like being there
amongst the 100,000 plus crowd to truly
experience this spectacular event.
Off the track, the fashion stakes are
equally as high with the commencement
of the Myer Fashions on the Field
competition. The striking elegance
of AAMI Victoria Derby Day sets the
benchmark for the entire racing week.
Traditionally, black and white has been
the prominent colour scheme for Ladies,
while Lords often choose to wear a grey
morning suit, top hat, peacock vest and
pin-stripe pants.
The excitement slowly builds to its 3pm
fever pitch when the nation draws to a
halt for 200 heart-pounding seconds.
Each year, a new chapter is written, a
new legend is born and a new dream
comes true as the winning connections
are bestowed Australia’s most famous
sporting trophy.

Known for being the pinnacle of style
during the Melbourne Cup Carnival
and commonly referred to as ‘ladies
day’, women of all ages come together
dressed in their most majestic and
resplendent ensembles.
Crown Oaks Day’s significance on the
fashion calendar is further reinforced
with the announcement of the Myer
Fashions on the Field national winner.
The racing highlight is the Group 1
Crown Oaks, a race for three-year-old
fillies over 2500m.

The Melbourne Cup Carnival concludes
with Emirates Stakes Day, featuring
Victoria’s premier 1600m event, the
Group 1 Emirates Stakes.
Emirates Stakes Day is the fastest
growing raceday with crowds topping
80,000 in recent years. It is also
recognised as the Melbourne Cup
Carnival’s family day with the focus on
family fun and an abundance of free
activities available for children.
