Revitalized Laundry Room A Welcome Improvement
Thanks to some shrewd negotiations, FM Executive Director
Dan Herzog managed to secure new washers and dryers for
our Laundry Room. These state of the art machines use less
water and are more energy efficient than ever. And with the
signing bonus Dan arranged, there was money for a new floor,

A MILESTONE BIRTHDAY FOR SHIRLEY BAGWELL
Shirley is s mainstay of Friendship Manor. Not only is she the Manager of the Thrift Store, she
also takes Welcome Bags to all new Residents and helps make them feel at home. She’s always
there to lend a helping hand and pitches in to help Chris with Activities when needed. In September she turned 90 and celebrated by hosting an ice cream party for Residents, because that’s
just what she does. Congratulations, Shirley, and Happy Birthday!

THE MANOR HAS IT ALL!
Friendship Manor offers conveniences and fun things to all Residents. From the Corner Store with its diversity to live entertainment and free movie nights, here are just some of the benefits of living at the Manor.
Thrift Store Update – Check It Out
Take the Van – Let Someone Else Drive
The Thrift Store is bursting at the seams, and
we need to move a lot of merchandise very soon
or there won’t be room left to move around!
Though many may take it for granted, FM’s van is
a medical lifeline and a source of endless entertainment for Residents.
The Thrift Store, located in the garage level, has
just about anything you could want, from furniture to a rotating selection of clothes. The
availability of merchandise varies throughout
the year, but the Thrift Store is noted for it’s
goal to help residents set up and maintain an
affordable life here at the Manor.
Medical Trips. Twice a week, Richard faithfully transports Residents without their own
vehicles to doctor and lab appointments and to
the pharmacy of their choice.
Keep in mind that all sales from the Thrift
Store go directly into the RSC fund for Live
Entertainment, the B Lounge TV and internet and other resident-oriented activities. Help
keep the Entertainment Fund healthy by shopping at the Thrift Store, and especially now
when the bargains are everywhere!
And – don’t forget about the Corner Store,
located in the B Lounge. With its recently expanded hours, Residents can shop many times a
week to pick up everything from toilet paper to
ice cream.
Support the RSCs two stores and discover the
bargains that have made the Manor special for
so many years.
And several times a month, Chris glides Residents to Local Walks or just on Joy Rides to
the many scenic places in our local area — not
to mention the two weekly shopping trips these
drives make: Tuesday to Goleta and Wednesday
to SB. In addition, our faithful Van takes residents on tours, to concerts, plays, art exhibits
and to partake of lunches and dinners at some
of the finest establishments from Santa Maria
to Los Angeles.
We have lots of new residents each year who
need to know how valuable a resource this truly
is!
If you haven’t taken advantage of all the Van
has to offer, check out the slant board in the
Lobby and sign up for a field trip; or connect
with Reception to schedule a ride to your next
medical or shopping appointment.

WATER CONSERVATION IS A PRIORITY
During the RSC meeting, Dan Herzog the Executive Director
reported that the FM Board of Directors has delayed our typical
September rent increase if Residents can take water conservation
seriously. With new washing machines and all gardens now on
drip systems, the Manor has been proactive. Now it is up to you
to do your part. A running monthly chart will be posted down on
the slant board so you can see our total water usage and costs.
Starting this August the Goleta Water District has even added a
new drought surcharge of @ $1500 per month. Please make it a
priority to conserve water!
