Waukesha’s Rosalie Smith has personal ties to her platform By Lauren Anderson Freeman Staff W AUKESHA — Rosalie Smith sports a crown atop her pixie cut, lofty wedge heels and a bright white sash. When she walks down the streets of downtown Waukesha, heads turn. She’s Miss Wisconsin. And while the 19-year-old seems to wear her new title and handle the attention with ease, Smith says she’s much more excited for onlookers to hear what she has to say. “Once they know really what I’m about, that’s what’s really exciting to me,” she said. WAUKESHA — The U.S. Supreme Court's decision Friday to legalize same-sex marriage in all 50 states has people both locally and nationally reflecting on the measure's historical significance. While it does not change law in Wisconsin, where gay and lesbian couples have been able to wed since last October, the 5-4 Supreme Court ruling declared that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry anywhere in the nation. Gay marriage had been legal in 36 states up to this point. Evan Williams of Delafield, who entered a domestic partnership with his partner Chad Lantow last year, praised the ruling. “I feel empowered and free City says lodge didn’t file claim properly By Brian Huber Freeman Staff Charles Auer/Freeman Staff WAUKESHA — The dispute over the Blair House in Waukesha is on its way to the Court of Appeals, as the city seeks a review and reversal of a decision by Circuit Court Judge Linda Van De Water last month.
