Cult Records is pleased to announce the release of Future Present
Past, a new four-song EP by The Strokes, in addition to the
exclusive signing of the band to its roster.
The EP includes three original songs (Drag Queen, OBLIVIUS, and
Threat of Joy), along with an additional remix of OBLIVIUS by
drummer, Fab Moretti.
Future Present Past will be released on June 3rd, in both digital and
physical formats to coincide with the band’s headlining
performance at Governors Ball Festival in New York.
Lead singer/songwriter, Julian Casablancas, premiered OBLIVIUS
earlier this morning on the debut of his new monthly radio show,
Culture Void, on SiriusXMU.
Future Present Past was recorded over the past year in Austin, TX
and New York, NY with the help of producer, Gus Oberg. The
Strokes are currently at work on new material.
The band recently sat down before their performance at SXSW in
Austin, TX for their first interview in ten years, that can be seen
exclusively via Casablancas’ newly launched website for Cult
Records.
Exclusive streams of the Drag Queen, OBLIVIUS, and Threat of
Joy will be made available today via Cult Records, along with
several exclusive pre-order offers.

launching a week-long curated pop-up shop on Memorial Day
(Monday, May 30th through Sunday, June 5th). The store will be
located at 352 Bowery (at Great Jones Street) in New York’s East
Village neighborhood and will be open from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM
daily, with the exception of a special midnight Future Present Past
EP release sale on Thursday, June 2nd. DJ sets from special
guests to be announced shortly.
The Strokes recently announced an intimate warm-up performance
at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, on Tuesday, May 31st
prior to their headlining set at Governors Ball Festival. Tickets go
on sale tomorrow (Friday, May 27th). The concert will be presented
by SiriusXM, who will be airing an hour-long special featuring live
recordings of the band’s set on the eve of release, Thursday, June
2nd.
The Strokes are a multi-platinum American rock band formed in
New York City in 1998, consisting of Julian Casablancas (lead
vocals), Nick Valensi (guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), Albert
Hammond Jr. (rhythm guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), Nikolai
Fraiture (bass) and Fabrizio Moretti (drums, percussion).
Cult Records is an independent record label based in New York,
founded and run by Julian Casablancas. Releases include The
Strokes, Julian Casablancas+The Voidz, Albert Hammond Jr.,
Karen O, and more. The newly launched website now includes a
comprehensive store featuring both exclusive Cult titles and nonexclusive releases, books, merch, and more, all personally curated
by Casablancas. In addition, the site also features an online radio
station and editorial component with news coverage, long form
features, interviews, and photo galleries, as well as a section where
fans can discover new artists, music, videos, and more.
Casablancas states “The ultimate goal is to turn Cult into this time
machine that exists to make sure that bands like the Velvet
Underground can be more popular and appreciated in their time vs.
twenty years later. I hope it can help deliver a supportive audience
that makes cool and important art more commercial. It's kind of
super ambitious, but my long-term dream is to create connections
between all the cooler, more underground radio stations, record
stores, thrift shops, zines and blogs, and artists and fans to be part
of a more unified thing.”
