It has a long history dating back 1900 years and is especially defined by its history after the establishment of Nagoya Castle. Their traditional industries like ceramics and textiles as well as key modern industries like automobiles, aviation and machine tools have also developed in Nagoya. Nagoya plays an important role in Japan’s industrial society. It also held the World Design Expo in 1989, and that experience led Nagoya to further emphasize its aesthetic appearance as well as city infrastructure. In 2002, Oasis 21 was established in Sakae. It combines parks, public facilities such as a bus terminal, and commercial facilities. In Nagoya, urban design with a historical appearance and modern infrastructure is being perused. 6 DAY 2 Visit local school Meet with local Japanese students, through interaction and participation in the classes, enhances mutual understanding of different culture. Food Replica Workshops Few people know that the ubiquitous plastic food replica, seen in front of practically every restaurant in Japan, was invented in Gujo Hachiman. This tradition continues today, with 70% of national production still done in Gujo Hachiamn. Though the workshop, student can make their favorite food replica and bring back home as souvenirs. 。 Hida Takayama Takayama retains a traditional touch with the beautifully preserved old town. The town and its culture, as they exist today, took shape at the end of the 16th century, when the Kanamoti clan built Takayama Castle. The Takayama Festival, held in spring and autumn, is considered as one of the Japan’s most beautiful festivals. 7 Japan Onsen Japan is situated on the volcanic belt, so hot spring bubble up everywhere. An onsen is a term for hot spring in the Japanese language. Japan has thousands of onsen scattered along its length and breadth. Bathing at Onsen has become a “must try” for tourist, who want to get away from the hectic life of the city to relax In Japan, it is said onsen have various medical effects. Japanese people believe that a good soak in proper onsen heals aches, pains and diseases, and visit onsen to treat the illnesses, such as arthralgia, chronic skin diseases, diabetes and so on. These medical benefit have given onsen a central role in balneotherapy which is called “Onsen Therapy” Students can enjoy the mineral rich hot spring inside the hotel, relax their body and soul. 8 DAY 3 Jinya (open air morning market) An open-air morning market held in Hida-Takayama is ranked among Japan’s three greatest open-air morning markets. They sell plenty of vegetables, plants, pickled foods, flowers, fruits, rice cakes, Miso, handmade folk crafts etc. The owners on display allow people to perceive the season, which we have less and less chances to see in our modern life. UNESCO World Heritage Site - Shirakawa-go Hidden away deep in the mountains is this quaint settlement in Shirakawa Village that is famous for its gassho-zukuri houses whose grand roofs resemble hands clasped in prayer. Many of these houses are still inhabited to this day, and together with their adjacent rice paddies, they paint an incredibly picturesque landscape that is a joy to behold and to take a stroll through. The Shiroyama Viewpoint offers a great panoramic view of the settlement in its entirety. Kanazawa Castle Kanazawa Castle is a large, well-restored castle in Kanazawa. It is located adjacent to the celebrated Kenroku-en Garden, which once formed the castle’s private outer garden. 9 Kenroku-en Kenroku-en is one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan. It means a garden combining the six attributes of a perfect garden including Spaciousness, Seclusion, Artifice, Antiquity, Water-Courses and Panoramas. As a strolling style landscape garden, it incorporates fancy designs in every corner, achieving peerless scenery in each season. Gold Leaf Workshop The root of gold production – a process of stretching a tiny amount of gold until it is equally 1/10,000 of millimeter in thickness. In the olden days, Japanese liked to use gold leaf in buildings and furniture as a representation of their power. Nowadays, gold leaf can be used in architecture, traditional craftwork, paintings and contemporary interior goods with subtle changes in composition and through special processing. As gold is a safely inhalable material, it is also used in the decoration of food and in cosmetics. Student can learning more about the gold leaf though the workshop. Korinbo The Korinbo area has the greatest shopping quarter in the Hokuriku district and crowded with a large number of shoppers on holidays. There are department stores, large-scale shopping buildings, and brand stores in Korinbo, restaurants in Kata-machi and Kigura-machi, stores centering on the latest fashions for young people in Tate-machi and Kakinokibatake, and handicraft stores in Hirosaka. 10 DAY 4 Kutani-yaki Porcelain Kutani-yaki porcelain is one of the most revered types of porcelain in Japan and it boasts striking colors and intricate patterns. Kutaniyaki Porcelain is characterized by five colors of paint (dark green, yellow, red, purple, dark blue) used in mighty and lovely designs with flowing hairlines. Students can enjoy all the arts while learning the history of Kutaniyaki Porcelain. Soba making workshop Soba is such a part of Japanese food culture. In the past, practically every household used to make soba as well, so the people here have a deep fondness for the buckwheat noodles. Making the noodles is called “soba-uchi”. After learning a few basic techniques, anyone can try their hand at making delicious soba. The best tasting soba noodles are the ones you make yourself. Soba making is highly recommended to fully experience for Japanese’s food culture. 11 Tojinbo Tojinbo is a series of basaltic cliffs, standing 25 meters tall and stretching over 1 kilometer along the shore. It is located in Anto part of Mikuni-cho in Sakai, Fukui Prefecture. The cliffs’ rocks were originally formed 12 to 13 million years ago during the Miocene Epoch due to various volcanic activities. Their shape has been formed through the years by erosion from sea waves. Echizen Washi (Paper Museum & workshop) Echizen Washi is one of the largest paper villages in Japan that makes paper throughout the year. In the museum, students have chance to see the varieties of Echizen washi from every local paper mill including both handmade and machine made and learn about the manufacturing technique. Students can create their own Japanese Paper in the workshop. Kyoto Shinkyogoku / Kawaramachi Shinkyogoku Street is the second oldest street after Asakusa Nakamise in Tokyo which established in 1872. Restaurants and souvenir shops multiplied around this area. There are also 7 temples and 1 shrine that are situated along the strip. Each temple and shrine having its own intriguing history. 12 DAY 5 Kiyomizu-dera Kiyomizu-dera is an independent Buddhist temple in eastern Kyoto. The temple is part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto UNESCO World Heritage site. The temple was founded in 778, and its present buildings were constructed in 1633. Kiyomizu-dera is best known for its wooden stage that juts out from its main hall, 13 meters above the hillside below. The main hall, which together with the stage was built without the use of nails, houses the temple’s primary object of worship, a small statue of the eleven faced, thousand armed Kannon. Dressing Kimono (Yukata) Dressing Kimono and taking photos surrounding with those shrines/ temples can be an unforgettable memory of all students in their trip. Arashiyama-Sagano Arashiyama-Sagano district in Western Kyoto, an area of stunning beauty especially during the cherry blossom and fall color seasons. The Togetsukyo bridge is Arashiyama’s iconic landmark. This area is best explored on foot because lush temple, shrine compounds, old private villas, and narrow streets lined with craft and souvenir shops are found along the way. 13 Kyoto Nishijin Nishijin textiles, an elegant part of Kyoto’s culture, developed alongside the history of this ancient city. This museum introduces the fascinating history of Nishijin and they have weaving demonstration to see how artisans weave wonderful designs from countless yarns in beautiful colors. Kagayuzen workshop Kaga-Yuzen is recognized by the method of shading from the outside to the inside of the patterns and the use of five basic colours. Lecturers will guide the students how to make their own handkerchief, umbrella or pouch with the use of Utsushi-yusen and bring home with a beautiful piece of art. Gion Gion is Kyoto’s most famous geisha district. It is filled with shops, restaurants and ochaya (teahouses), where geiko (Kyoto dialect for geisha) and maiko (geiko apprentices) entertain. Gion attracts tourists with its high concentration of traditional wooden machiya merchant houses. Due to the fact that property taxes were formerly based upon street frontage, the houses were built with narrow facades only five to six meters wide, but extend up to twenty meters in from the street. 14 DAY 6 Cup noodle – Instant Ramen Museum Ikeda is the birthplace of instant ramen. In the Museum, student can learn about the creation of instant noodles, its subsequent development and its manufacturing methods, student can also create their own cup noodles with soup and ingredients of choice at “My Cup Noodle Factory”. There are lots of fun! Osaka City Abeno Life Safety Learning Center In order to deepen the disaster prevention awareness, they have virtual earthquake, fire prevention, in the smoke, initial firefighting training. Actual seismic intensity 7 experience was a really valuable experience for the students. Panasonic Center Osaka Panasonic Center Osaka is a Global Communications Hub of Panasonic. With a vision to realize ‘A Better Life, A Better World’ for every individual customer, the Center serves as a vehicle for communications, receiving opinions and request directly from customers while presenting actual products and services. 15 Shinsaibashi Area The Shinsaibashi is the largest shopping area in Osaka where many boutiques and specialty shops are gathered, attracting local people and visitors. Shops of all kinds and for all ages line the street, a roofed arcade 600 meters long. The western area of the Shinsaibashi is nicknamed as the American-mura Village, and its symbol is the walls painted with unique illustrations. This area continues to lead the Kansai teen culture in the Minami Area of Osaka. 16 DAY 7 Fruit picking Japan is a kingdom of fruits, different fruits are harvested at different time and different vicinity. Fruit picking is a popular activity in Japan, both among the locals and tourists alike. Japanese fruits have perfect shapes, juicy and sweet tastes. The time of the year in which a particular fruit is available depends on the location and the weather. It is a very experience for student picking their own favorite fruit.
