No1 February 24th - Feilding High School
NEWSLETTER NUMBER 1
19 February 2015
A warm welcome to all new students and parents to FAHS
– Feilding High School. I trust that your time with us will
be positive. The year has begun extremely well with
students settling into the school routines very quickly.
Our school roll at present is 1443 which is 60 up on what
the Ministry of Education predicted. As a consequence
there is little spare room within classes and within the
school.
I welcome the following new staff to the school:
Mr Kellerman
Mrs Matthews
Miss Leggett
Mr Haronga
Miss Parker
Mr Dearlove
English and Media Studies
Mathematics
Tourism and Social Studies
Mathematics and Drama
Chemistry and Science
Mathematics (from 2 March)
We will be holding a Year 9 parents’ evening on 26
February 2015, 7.00 PM, so that you can meet and greet
your children’s teachers. It will be an opportunity to learn
some of the processes and procedures that we operate by.
There will be a parent interview afternoon on Thursday 26
March 2015, 3.30 – 6.00 PM.
During the week beginning 2 March 2015 Mr Robert Pereira
will be visiting the school, delivering his anti-bullying
programme. We will be holding a parents’ evening with
Robert on Tuesday 3 March 2015 in the assembly hall at
7.00 PM.
ATTENDANCE ISSUES
When your child is absent from school we need to have a
reason for the absence. All absences have to be coded for
the Ministry of Education, so your co-operation with this
would be appreciated.
Mr Larsen, Mrs Hansen and Mrs Moore have all returned
from leave. Mrs Buksh leaves us for a mathematics position
in the Cook Islands this Friday. I acknowledge her
contribution to the school over the past five years.
BOARD MATTERS
The Board of Trustees will hold their first meeting of the
year on Wednesday 25 February 2015 at 6.30 PM in the

Physical Education
Gaining a healthy number of scholarships at Year 13 is very
pleasing as it points to outstanding teaching and learning
that is happening within the school. Unlike the main NCEA
pass rates, scholarship results cannot be manipulated.
Mrs Lawton, Mr Larsen and Mrs Higginson accompanied
our boys’ and girls’ basketball teams to California and
Hawaii over the Christmas break. The teams played in two
tournaments while away; the girls won six of their 10 games
and the boys three of their 10 games. Excellent results when
visiting the home of basketball.

hour later at 9.40 AM. All bus students will be supervised.
This arrangement is necessary in order to meet the noncontact provisions of the Secondary Teachers’ Collective
Contract.

2015 at 7.00 PM in the school Council Chamber. This is an
opportunity to ask school management any questions and
find out how the school operates. This is not a fund-raising
committee so you won’t be rail-roaded into doing anything.
