NEWS OF PAST PUPILS
RAY HOPKINS (1951) passed away on July
7th after a long illness. His wife, Cynthia, says
that they met at Cambridge when they were
both fifteen and married when they were 22
and so shared 62 years together! Ray’s
parents, Albert and Lilian, also met at
Cambridge, as did Ray’s brother, Reg, and
his wife, Lorraine Heger. Cynthia is living in
Port Elizabeth.
Nigel Webber chats to Gary McLaren
at the 1977 rugby reunion.
Roxsanne (Spencer) Slatford meets the famous
American Actor - David Hasselhoff
BERTIE LE ROUX (1976) is an engineer
based in Gonubie and owner of Daygra
Alternate Power Solutions. He designed and
installed a solar-powered pool heating system
for Stirling Primary, which saves the school
R1,641.00 a month and keeps the water at 27
degrees. He designs at home with blunt
pencils, a lot of basic maths, a laptop and
heavy 1970s rock ‘n roll!
GRANT LARTER (1993) has spent the last
six years in Bangkok, where he is head
teacher at a British International Programme
School. He has travelled a lot in south-east
Asia, but misses South Africa, which he still
considers to be home.
Kevin Barnard, Bruce McClaren, Deon Stander, Herman Korté and Alan Wild at the cocktail party of the 1977 1st XV.
The ‘Cambridge Sharks’ meet regularly in Durban:
Alex Wardle, Chris Snow, Robin Goddard, Graeme Neary, Gary Barnes
BRETON SCOTT (1993) is now the manager
of the mining consulting division of MSA. This
is a new division of the company, which

asset valuations, due diligencies and in
Business Administration and holds a BSc in
Mining Engineering. He is a registered
professional engineer, a project management
professional, a member of the SA Institute for
Mining and Metallurgy and a member of the
SA Institute for Rock Engineering.
ROXSANNE (SPENCER) SLATFORD (2002)
is pictured with David Hasselhoff earlier on.
She explains: David came in to perform on
our Morning Show and he brought his
girlfriend, Hayley, along. I never thought that
this little girl from East London would have
the Hoff singing to her one day! Roxsanne
has worked with West Life, Peter André, Lulu
and Gok Wan, to name but a few celebrities
who would be known in South Africa.
VUYOLWETHU CUBE (2003) graduated in
April from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan
University with a BA in Human Resources
Management. He wrote thanks for treating us
Past Pupils as part of the school.
CHARL HAMMOND (2008) is studying parttime at Fort Hare and hopes to finish his
