Environmental Youth Speak, now
in its 14th year is an annual public
speaking competition open to pupils
throughout Northern Ireland.
At the local heats, one pupil from
each section will be chosen to go
through to their Regional Final.

The competition encourages environmental
awareness among young people by giving
them the opportunity to research and debate
environmental issues.
There are two entry categories:

Participation in Environmental Youth Speak enables
pupils to improve their communication skills,
develop self confidence and articulate reasoned
arguments based on environmental facts.
In line with the National Curriculum, Councils are
committed to encouraging the development
of young citizens and building awareness
of environmental sustainability.

WEEE* Waste, Big Problem - What Can We Do?

THE RULES:
1. Each pupil should speak for between a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes. 2. Please note a school may enter a
maximum of two pupils in each category. 3. All pupils must wear school uniforms, where applicable. 4. No electronic media allowed. Hand held
props may be used but there will be no facility for posters or other wall displays. 5. Entries from single pupils only - No Duets.
• Winners of regional heats win perpetual
trophies and environmental education
prizes for their schools.
• Grand Final Winners receive £50 voucher,
£500 voucher for their school and a
perpetual trophy.
