Issue - 11 by T Ms. Shaima Kalim PYP Educator he graduation day is an occasion when emotions saturated with nervousness, enthusiasm and accomplishment surface with high frequency of appreciation. The youngsters of grade 5 graduated on the evening of 24th March 2016. The whole ambience was set to bid good bye to our 5th graders from PYP. The event commenced with motivating speeches from the PYP Coordinator Ms. Humera Riyaz, an eye opening yet motivating play and a captivating song dedicated to the parents. The parents also volunteered to share their own experiences of their child’s learning years at PYP. The principal, coordinator and Islamic studies head awarded students certificates and sparkling trophies. The purpose of this assembly was to brief the school about our 2 years experience in CAS. The assembly mainly focused on the 3 strands of CAS i.e. Creativity, Action and Service. We planned to showcase our complete work of CAS by presenting the evidences in the form of presentation. We informed others about the CAS learning outcomes and its importance in Diploma Program. We also talked about the CAS projects that we did, for example Ramadan Food Packet Distribution, Renault’s road safety project and visit to SOS village. At last we shared the procedure that we use for uploading our CAS evidence on ‘managebac’. It is a software where students can upload the different subject components of DP. The Assembly was done in a very presentable way and ensured that everyone should get specific idea of CAS. by P Dr. Fraz Ahmed MYP Coordinator arents’ Orientation Programme was organized exclusively for the parents of Grade VIII to introduce IGCSE programme. Eastern Public School is one of the three schools in Bhopal following the IGCSE curriculum in Grade 9 & 10 and the only school having both IB MYP and IGCSE. During this session, parents were provided with important information regarding the IGCSE subject availability, curriculum, assessment, etc. Moreover the similarity of the two international programmes (IB MYP and IGCSE) and the flexibility was also shared. by H Dr. Farida Naim Art Specialist undreds of children from across the country participated in All India drawing and painting competition organized by ART ROOT EVINCE, MUMBAI last month. 20 students from Eastern Public School participated in the competition. Mariyam Khan of grade 5 won the consolation prize .This event is an initiative by Evince to make people aware about the importance of art in Human development. The competition was held in five categories: Mariyam appeared in category C and showcased her imagination and creativity on ‘My favourite game’. Her painting is being displayed in Mumbai art gallery. It was a great learning experience for all the participants .The students were excited to represent their school at All India level .Little Mariyam expressed her happiness and thanked her teachers for giving her a chance to represent her school. by Dr. Fraz Ahmed MYP Coordinator ust like previous years, this year also we are planning to distribute Ramadan Food Packets to our underprivileged brothers and sisters of Abbas nagar area. This year’s target is to distribute packets to at least 1000 families. As the first step towards this project we have started with the survey and have completed survey of about 250 families. The survey include the gathering of important information like name, age, family income, ration card no., Aadhar card no, contact no. etc. Every measure is taken to cross-check the details and verify the information provided by the people so that the packets are given to the needy. Please do come forward and contribute towards this cause by giving Zakaat and Sadaqah amount and bring smile to our brothers and sisters. J by Dr. Fraz Ahmed MYP Coordinator astern Public School is the one of the three schools in Bhopal offering Cambridge IGCSE examination. Our Grade 10 students appeared for their IGCSE examination in March session, which was held from 24th February 2016 to 11th March 2016. This was the first time that our students appeared for the IGCSE exams and most of them said that the examination went well and good results are expected. The results are usually declared in the month of May. E by T Ms. Shaima Kalim PYP Educator he year end was marked with fun, frolic and loads of food the first day when enthusiastic students joined their new classes. A glistening spectrum of class activities like video shoot, cake icing, games were planned by the teachers to make the day engaging and memorable. Many students and teachers even exchanged gifts, badges to remind each other of the adorable moments spent together. The students took farewell from their teachers and promised to visit them during their free time to share their new experiences. The year had its own ups and downs but witnessed an all round achievement in many areas. L by Ms. Humera Riyaz PYP Coordinator earning in an IB school is viewed as a continuous journey and assessments provide an opportunity to gauge student’s learning, what students know and can do at next level. Reporting at EPS is one of the most important aspect of assessments .After completion of academic session 2015 parents were informed about their child’s progress throughout the year through final reporting by organizing a parent teacher meeting on Friday, 25 March 2016 . This end of the year meeting was yet another opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss student progress, reflect on previous year learnings’ and set new goals for their children. Happy faces of both parents and students brimming with excitement were seen on this day as students were ready to take up the next level of their learning. After the completion of this successful session of 2015 EPS is off to a flying start for the next academic year 2016 with much vigor and enthusiasm on 30 March 2016. We congratulate our students for their outstanding performances and wish them the very best for continued years of splendid learning journey. MAY WE TOGETHER GIVE OUR CHILDREN ROOTS TO GROW AND WINGS TO FLY. E by Ms. Nazia Mujeeb Art Specialist PS organized a Van Art exhibition cum sale on the theme ‘The Bests out of Waste’. It was the fifth year for this exhibition. The theme was reduce, reuse and recycle and EPSites made products out of waste material . This instilled the value of protecting our planet earth in the students as well as other stakeholders of our school. The collections from the sale went to the community and service dept. by A Ms. Shimaila Saeed PYP Educator n educational workshop for differentiated classrooms was organized on 22nd Feb 2016. The workshop leader was Dr Carolyn Coil , who hails from Georgia, U.S.A. She shared with the teachers of EPS, her valuable experiences and advices to make our classroom activities and assessments more flexible and productive for different learning needs. Dr. Coil showed variety of ways for incorporating effective differentiation strategies which can be used to create and implement lessons, units and assessments. She elaborated the essential 21st century skills and gave away ways of flexible grouping which includes Homogeneous and Heterogeneous grouping for teaching teamwork, communication and collaboration to students. She accentuated the different types of learners and ways to meet their learning needs. We are filled with gratitude for the time Dr. Coil spent with us to guide and enlighten us with her valuable experiences. by Ms. Shazia Akhtar Librarian T he Oxford Reading Tree Demo session was conducted on the 21st of March for the PYP English Language Teachers. The demo was given by Miss Charu Sachdev, the Product Manager at Oxford University Press, New Delhi. The purpose of the session was to introduce ORT to the teachers and provide guidance on how to use them effectively for best results. Oxford Reading Tree is an English language program which helps to develop communication skills for life long pleasure reading. It is a systematic phonics teaching Programme with resources and training which makes it even more productive. It provides a rich collection of resources which are levelled and are available in flexible sets. by Dr. Fraz Ahmed MYP Coordinator D r. Fraz Ahmed (MYP Coordinator) attended the IB MYP Coordinator’s workshop entitled “Delivering the MYP curriculum” in Hyderabad from 13th March 2016 to 15th March 2016. Teachers from many countries including Malaysia, Thailand, East Timor, Australia, Indonesia, China and Hong Kong attended the workshop. The workshop leaders were Kim Edwards from Australia and Curtis Beaverford from Japan. Lot of learning and sharing of resources among teachers happened at this workshop and it will In Sha Allah be beneficial in implementing the MYP programme efficiently in our school and will also provide us the help in the planning of the upcoming academic session 2016-17.
