SYNOPSIS
Fernando‭, ‬an undocumented immigrant‭, ‬crosses the border to find work to support his family‭.
‬He earns a living in New York City as a day laborer but due to traffic and heavy snow‭, ‬he is
late to work and gets fired‭. ‬Instead of waiting on‭ ‬the street‭, ‬he tries to find a job on his own‭.‬
DIRECTORS STATEMENT
The Film‭, ‬SUNNYSIDE‭, ‬I made it for my graduate thesis project last year‭.‬ I made this movie
because of my personal experience‭. ‬One day‭, ‬a Latino laborer came to my home to ask about
sweeping snow in front of my house‭. ‬I realized that most of them are single fathers who
support their families in their home countries‭. ‬They send money to‭ ‬their families‭, ‬but they
cannot see them due to their undocumented status in the U.S‭. I decided to make
SUNNYSIDE to share with an audience how Latino laborers on the street are struggling‭ and
missing their families. ‬I hope that my movie helps audiences to understand the lives of day
laborers and to‭ ‬think their families‭.‬
DIRECTOR
Youngki Jin is a film director‭, ‬writer residing in New York‭. ‬Originally from South Korea‭, ‬he‭ ‬has
his bachelor degree in Creative Writing and MFA in Film directing at‭ ‬ The City College of New
York‭. ‬His movie credits including SUNNYSIDE ‭(‬Best Fiction‭ at City Vision, 68th ‬Cannes Short
Film‭ ‬Corner‭), ‬BLACKBIRDS ‭(‬Manhattan Film Festival‭, ‬Brooklyn Short Film Festival‭, ‬Korea
American Film Festival‭),‬ HOLE ‭(‬CUNY Asian Film Festival‭). ‬He has made movies related to
family issues such as how characters sustain and love their families‭. ‬He is currently writing on
developing a feature scripts Broken Window and Riding a Bicycle‭.‬
