New Adventures in Alpine Music
Jütz are everything familiar images of lederhosen and cowbells are not. Imagine a ride up to
the Jungfrau region, discovering the lush vocals of gorgeous Tyrolienne Isa Kurz. Listen out
for her deep grooves on dulcimer, accordion and violin in the shadow of the Eiger Northface.
The view is breathtaking and Swiss trumpet player Daniel Woodtli signals atmospheric celtic
chants. Philipp Moll’s unmistakeable bass playing grants safe passage over the mountain rigs
and peaks, on to the heartlands of his native Tyrol. Together these three musicians are Jütz,
an exciting young group with a fresh approach to exploring the traditions of Alpine music.
Wrapping a long-buried European treasure into the warm sounds of their acoustic
instruments, their innovative approach makes a wonderfully contrarian kind of sense. You’ll
be left wondering what’s next.
ISA KURZ Vocals, Accordion, Dulcimer, Violin .. born in 1981 in Hall in Tyrol. At an infant age she
already experiments with her numerous older siblings’ instruments. Her degrees in piano and violin
merely hint at her multifarious abilites and her exceptional voice. Isa is sometimes sceptical,
frequently in favour, but always game.
PHILIPP MOLL Double Bass, Vocals .. born in 1979 in Schwaz in Tyrol; son of a founding member of
New German Wave cult group «Intimspray». Philipp moved from the Austrian mountains to British
soil, where he studied and worked freelance for over a decade before returning to the Alps. Much to
the joy of friend and foe he sticks to his habit of mysteriously misplacing instruments and bows.
DANIEL WOODTLI Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Vocals .. born in Berne in 1974. An illustrous and
entertaining character of Berne’s old town quarter, Daniel’s main issue is the ludicrous amount of
people he constantly has to meet and greet. Making music comes naturally and gracefully, not least
thanks to countless family music sessions which covered local traditional songs and Jazz alike.
