What a comeback! It had been silent around the Brasilian producer, composer,
keyboardist and vocalist Sergio Mendes who wrote music history with his arrangement
of “Mas Que Nada“ in 1966 and became the hottest export from Brasil in the 70s. But
in 2006, his new album “Timeless” appeared and put the virtuoso back on top of the
charts: In cooperation with international stars like the BlackEyedPeas, Erykah Badu or
Justin Timberlake, he edited his songs all new. And what sounds like impossible –
“Merging Samba und Rap” – works out as an awesome collage of sound: Rap, Soul,
Bossa Nova, Salsa and Funk go together in a loose liaison that is “timeless” indeed. A
new recording featuring eclectic and upbeat Brazilian rhythms will be available in June
and as one of the most successful Brazilian artists of all time, Sergio Mendes is not to
