No More Toys in Iraq
In 1972, eleven Israeli athletes were murdered at the Munich Olympics by a Palestinian terrorist group
known as Black September. In retaliation, Israel put together a special team of Mossad agents to track down
and assassinate every one of those responsible for the murder. In 2005 Steven Spielberg released the highly
debatable film, Munich, which told a fictional story, based on these true events. Two hours into the movie
the Israeli team has been assassinating Black September members one by one. Some of the Israeli team members are starting to feel guilt and regret for their actions. They are beginning to question their methodology.
In one scene, as they are on their way to kill a lady who just assassinated someone from their team, one
member- Robert hesitates as he approaches the team. Avner, the team leader stops to talk with him.
Garden Ridge Church of Christ
Robert: So you’re really going to kill her? All this blood comes back to us.
Avner: Eventually it will work. Even if it takes years, we will beat them.
Robert: We’re Jews Avner. Jews don’t do wrong because our enemies do wrong.
Avner: We can’t afford to be that decent anymore.
Robert: I don’t know that we ever were that decent. Suffering thousands of years of hatred doesn’t make you
decent. But we’re supposed to be righteous. That’s a beautiful thing. That’s Jewish. That’s what I knew.
That’s what I was taught. And now I’m losing it. And I lose that… that’s everything. That’s my soul!
Before we react to injustice, no matter how small or large the scale, we must check ourselves. Is our
thirst for revenge compromising our faith? Let me ask it this way… When was the last time you prayed for
ISIS? (And I don’t mean the kind of prayer that country artist Jaron Lowenstein sings about). Jesus says "You
have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you.” Though it is not us literally losing our heads for our faith (have you
thanked God for that today?) it is still our responsibility to pray for the enemies of our Christian family
worldwide.
On a related note: how do you talk to your young children about these tragedies? The group Voice of
the Martyrs (who our Kids Giving will benefit for the next two months) has a great website to help parents
talk with children about Christians in other parts of the world who suffer in real ways.
www.kidsofcourage.com
It may be as simple as praying for the children in Iraq who had all their toys taken away, and for the
mean people who took them to learn the love of Jesus. Remember, regardless of our job in this world–
“we’re supposed to be righteous.”

FAITH COMMANDER
LIFE GROUP SERIES
You may have been seeing the giant posters of the Duck Dynasty men in the foyers
for the last few weeks. This is all about
advertising for a new series that we are
using in our LIFE groups in September and
October entitled Faith Commander. This
is a “bridging event” opportunity for
you to invite your friends and neighbors
to a Bible study that features the stars of a
tv show that many people are watching.
They might love to see these guys talk
about God and what He means to them.
Hear from the Duck Dynasty men, Si, Willie, Jase, Phil, Alan and Jep about their
faith shaped lives. This is a great series
with accompanying book written by Korie
Robertson. Let your LIFE group leader
know if you want a copy of the book. They
are $5 each.
Take advantage of this study to expand
your groups and reach out, share Jesus
and change lives.
