President’s Message
As I think about the CV&CCC, I’d like to say it's an honor to have the opportunity to serve you for the
next two years as your President. I’m very grateful to have an enthusiastic group of officers along with
our wonderful members that have worked and devoted personal resources which makes the CV&CCC the
strong and successful organization we are today.
I owe a great amount of thanks to Immediate Past President Ken McNally, who over the last 2 years has
been an outstanding leader and colleague. His work with the officers to help implement The CV&CCC
By-Laws allows for the rapid gathering of ideas, resulting in timely decision making which is important
for many club functions.
We have created a new position of Communications Director. We are very pleased to announce that John
Buchner has accepted this new role. We value the knowledge and expertise that John brings to our club!
As I assume this role, I keep in mind the trust and belief I have in our club. We have a membership that
has exceptional drive and a common goal to grow our club in a timely manner. I look forward to working
with each and everyone of you to accomplish our goals and contribute to the overall mission of our club
which is to give back, and to lend support to the community we all live in!
One of the many objectives the CV&CCCC has in 2016 is to further enhance our membership.
We also have set two immediate objectives to further our involvement in the community we all live in.
I am happy to announce that our officers have accomplished both of these goals in January. The first of
the two objectives was to have our club join the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce. They will help
promote our club and its members to various levels of local government, as well as private sector entities.
The second objective was to form a working relationship between The CV&CCC and the Citrus County
Cruisers. We will talk more about our partnership at the February 11th Member Meeting.
We plan on continuing to improve communications and strengthening mutual efforts between our club
and its members! As these relationships are nurtured, the officers will continue to represent the interest of
our members and present a cohesive voice while participating in committees, and legislative processes.
In addition, the Officers of the CV&CCC will look to reach out to our members and engage those who
bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our club. We encourage all of our members, new as well as
seasoned to share their views, experience or expertise by submitting articles for the club newsletter.
As your President I would like to personally encourage you to get involved! A lot of exciting ideas will
be introduced to our members on February 11th. I hope to see all of our members attend this meeting.

Saturday February 6th
Mark your calendars for a fun filled Saturday organized by CV&CCC
Members Ken & Chris Mette. We will tour historic downtown Dade City,
Florida and then lunch to follow.
Dade City Monthly Cruise In & Car Show
We will participate in the monthly Dade City Cruise In Car Show located
around the Historic Dade City Courthouse Square from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Deadline to register is February 1st
We will meet at the Wal-Mart located at 6885 S. Suncoast
Boulevard or U.S. 19 in Homosassa at 11:00 with a departure
time of 11:30 for our cruise to Dade City!
Ken & Chris have a great route planned that takes us thru
the beautiful back roads of Hernando County.
Please make sure you have a walkie talkie for the trip!

On Saturday March 5, 2016 O’Reilly Auto Parts in Inverness will be hosting a small cruise in for
CV&CCC Corvettes & Camaros from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This event is limited to the first 26 cars that sign up.
Kevin Corcoran the store manager will be cooking Hamburgers & Hot Dogs with all the trimmings for
our members that attend.

Kickoff of the NCM on site event season – Bash traditionally marks the roll
out of the next model year Corvette; the place where you can see them up
close and in detail.
Bash 2016 will provide enthusiasts the chance to see the new 2017 Corvette
Stingray up close as well as getting all the latest information about the all
new 7th Generation Corvette. Seminars will feature speakers discussing
‘What’s new in the 2017 model year’, the award winning body structure, as
well as using your 7th generation navigation system.
As in past years there will be a large contingent of GM engineers and
designer from Warren Tech Center, Milford Proving Ground and the
Bowling Green Assembly Plant ready to answer your every question.
Also back to Bash is our LT4 Engine building demonstration by BGAP Rob
Nichols and Brian Lee. Returning activities include a seminar and classroom
sessions by GM certified Corvette Technicians Paul Koerner & Brittany
George.
Enjoy some guided road tours, two celebrity choice car shows, the Ladies’
Oasis, and the expanded Garage Party with women of the GM Corvette
Team. The ladies will cover all aspects of Corvettes including maintenance,
engineering and even high performance driving. Some returning activities
include Golf with GM Team.
On-line registration closes at 8:00am central time on Wednesday, April 13.
All activities are open to Event Registrants only. On-line registrants will
receive a hard card credential, lanyard, event pin and dash plaque.
Lifetime registration is $15pp, member registration is $20pp and nonmember registration is $30pp.

S4: Hand Building the LT4 Engine 11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.
Watch as the Performance Build Center Team completely disassembles and reassembles an LT4 engine
from top to bottom. Feel free to ask the team about the parts, the engine, and the process during the
build. After the team has finished building the engine from the bare block they will talk about the testing,
sequencing, and other processes to get the final engine ready to go in a Z06 Corvette.

Come and experience one of KY’s finest State Parks. Park Mammoth Resort, is an historic property located in the heart of the scenic Caves, Lakes, and Corvette region of south-central KY. Enjoy their southern
hospitality in a buffet lunch in their ‘Lookout
Restaurant’. After lunch we will cruise to GTO Heaven a private collection owned by Phil Wheeler. There you will see his collection of old Corvettes, other
old cars and even motorcycles.

through it with his big screen presentation in hopes of steering you straight
and getting you to your destinations with ease!

When discussing C5, some people think ‘service column lock’ or ‘service
abs’ or ‘electrical gremlins’. In our hands on classroom training, Paul
Koerner and Brittany George will help unlock the electrical mysteries of
C5. You will learn what to look for, how to diagnose from the driver’s seat
and if necessary, how to do testing yourself.

truth, diagnostics of electronics changed completely with the entry of this
generation in 2005. LS2, LS3, LS7 and the powerhouse during this
generation LS9, were all amazing engines. DO LS7 really have massive
issues? I THINK NOT, and we will explain why. Service active handling,
air bag lights and other issues have diagnostic process that can be scary to
many owners. We will simplify the correct way to diagnose issues with
your C6 and show you that is just not as scary as internet may lead you to
believe.

the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. Located at 20000
S. Maricopa Road in Chandler, Arizona.
Barb and I stopped in unannounced and asked if we could just look around.
Much to our surprise the manager took us on a personal tour of the entire
facility which included the garage area, skid pads, race track and pit road.
He left nothing out. Truly amazing!
The only downfall is they are switching to Dodge Vipers and Hellcats for
their driving school! No more Corvettes or Camaros!

Does “E-Ray” Trademark Filing Point To An
Electric Corvette?
On December 16th, General Motors filed for trademarks on the terms
“E-RAY” and “CORVETTE E-RAY” in the Automobiles category with the
US Patent and Trademark Office, leading to speculation about whether the
General had concrete plans to produce either an all-electric or hybrid
Corvette.
You may recall that back in 2014, the trademarking of the name “Zora” led
to a similar flurry of supposition about a mid-engine, range-topping “superCorvette,” but then again, you probably didn’t hear about GM putting in
requests to register “Spark Activ,” “Badlands,” “Enclave Tuscan,”
or “Regal Tour X” either.
To some extent, trademark filings are a bit of corporate CYA General
Motors has an intellectual property division of their legal department, and in
terms of resources it’s not a particularly taxing process to just go out and
register anything that you might possibly want to use later.
Just look up why Ford’s supercar is just the GT and not the GT40 if you
want a real world example of why automakers should trademark everything
in sight. With that in mind, the E-RAY filing could very well be the result of
a note in the margins of some internal meeting, rather than a hint of things to
come.

Electric Corvette?
On the other hand, the success of the Tesla Model S P85D shows that there’s a market for an electric car
that can run a 2.8 second 0-60 time, and Chevrolet could certainly use the Corporate Average Fuel
Economy benefit of replacing a few Z06 sales with something that delivers a better number in the fleetwide calculation.
If you’d ask us to guess, we’d say a hybrid is more likely than a pure electric Corvette; one look at the
Spark EV’s spec sheet compared to the Volt shows that GM’s all-electric mojo still isn’t quite where it
needs to be to go head to head with Tesla, and a performance hybrid would make more sense.
Something akin to the discontinued 2008-2013 Tahoe Hybrid would seem to be in GM’s comfort zone,
and an LT1 with electric assist would be a formidable power plant indeed.
Chevrolet has already demonstrated a ready-for-prime-time V8 hybrid
drivetrain with the 2008-2013 Tahoe.

Another year of motorsports domination for the Bowtie brand
Chevrolet was up to its old tricks in 2015, and that meant another season of
manufacturers titles.
In NASCAR, Chevrolet made it 13 straight manufacturer’s championships –
39 overall – with 15 victories in the Sprint Cup Series.
The winning beat also played on in the Verizon Indy Car Series (fourth
consecutive title, 10 wins in 16 races); NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing
Series (second consecutive title, 21st overall) and the IMSA Tudor United
Sports Car Championship (second consecutive season).
Individual race wins for the Bowtie brand included the Indianapolis 500 and
Chevy’s first overall win (and a podium sweep) at the Mobil 1 Twelve
Hours of Sebring in 50 years.
“This is a true team effort like it always is in motorsports,” said Jim
Campbell, U.S. vice president, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.
“It’s about preparation, it’s about great strategy and execution, and on top of
that, you must have great teams and we do.”

The Duntov Motor Company
Keeping the Lightweight Grand Sport Alive and Very Well!
On December 19, 1962, Chevrolet General Manager Semon “Bunkie”
Knudsen submitted his request to the GM Executive Committee that
consisted of Fred Donner, Jack Gordon, Ed Cole, and others, asking for an
exemption for the Corvette from the 1957 ban on racing. Donner said he’d
think about it. He indeed did, and told Knudsen, “No!” Imagine how
Corvette history would have changed had Donner said, “Yes!”
Duntov wanted to build 125 Grand Sports and then as many as 1,000, to be
made available through Chevrolet dealers. The Grand Sport would have had
continuous running changes worked into each new build. Well, it’s fun to
daydream, but the lesson here is “development.”
Grand Sport Coupes #003, #004 and #005 were loaned to various teams for
a few years. Remaining Coupes #001 and #002 were made into roadsters.
Eventually, all five cars were sold to privateers. Amazingly, all were
wrecked, except #002, but none beyond repair. Today, all five have been
lovingly restored and are untouchable, unless you’ve got at least $5 million,
maybe more.
Replica cars have been around for a long time and most are actually kit cars
that use a donor car as a foundation. Companies such as Superformance
have been building Ford GT40 and Cobra replica cars since 1996. These are
custom, handmade-to-order, replicas that are professionally built turnkey
cars that can be almost identical to the originals.
Before Duntov Motors was formed in 2007, there had been a few companies
offering Grand Sport replicas, but these cars were based on C4 Corvette
components, and were too often not so good. Enter Alan Sevadjian.
Alan has a unique background that made him want to build track-ready
Grand Sport race cars. You see, Alan Sevadjian once owned one of the five
original Grand Sport Corvettes, car #003.
He owned the car from 1965 to 1968 and while he definitely “drove the
car,” he never “raced the car” because he was only 19 years old and you had
to be 21 to get your SCCA license. But Alan kept the driving in the family.
His dad, Ed Sevadjian, co-drove the Grand Sport with some of the best
drivers of the day, until 1968 when he sold off the car.

Alan Sevadjian went on to be a successful driver, winning four SCCA
championships, and started a successful business building race cars and
restoring Corvettes.
Given the astonishing value of the five surviving Grand Sport Corvettes, I’m
sure that most of the early owners have had the thought, “DRAT!
Why did I sell my Grand Sport?!” “Seller’s regret” can run high in the
Corvette community, but Alan decided to do something about it.
By the early 2000s, he decided that since he already knows how to build
race cars, why not build a duplicate of the Grand Sport he entered at Sebring
in 1965? He knew that there was no way he could get away with using
“Grand Sport Corvette” in his business name, so he went for something
better: the “Duntov Motor Company.”
Zora Arkus-Duntov passed on April 21, 1996, at the age of 86, so Alan
approached Zora’s widow, Elfi Arkus-Duntov asking for the exclusive right
to use the name “Duntov” for his lightweight race car business.
Elfi knew from Alan’s background as a former Grand Sport owner, racer,
race car builder and Corvette restoration expert that he would do well by her
family name. Mrs. Duntov wanted to introduce the Grand Sport and Zora to
a younger generation of Corvette enthusiasts. Duntov Motor Company is
based in Dallas, and their shop is just a touch north in Farmers Branch.
The company officially builds Corvette Grand Sport race cars, as well as
prepares and maintains race cars, full Corvette restoration services and
trackside services. They also manufacture racing parts, including brakes,
chassis and suspension for 1963-’82 Corvettes.
The first Duntov Motors Lightweight made its debut at the HRS Sebring
Historic Race in March 2005. Those with a keen eye for mid-year Corvettes
immediately noticed the slightly altered front and rear of the car.
The leading edges of the front and rear were indeed lower. What happened
was when they made a two-part mold from a D&D Grand Sport customer
car. The mold was fine, but drooped a little, which no one objected to.
Many thought it was a deliberate enhancement to better manage the airflow
over and under the car. After Alan made the licensing deal with GM, he
acquired a set of molds and original full-size Grand Sport blueprints.

The molds were made directly from original Grand Sport #002 while the car was being restored. Grand
Sport #002 was the only one of the five cars that had never been wrecked. The body is now a spot-on
replica of the original.
The tube chassis of the car is built exactly as the originals, including the Swiss cheese treatment on the
frame’s side rails. While the suspension looks vintage, it is completely worked out. The side tube cage
offers driver protection and greatly increases the overall stiffness of the car. This allows for better control
over suspension settings because the frame isn’t twisting while the suspension is trying to work. Duntov
Motors Continuation Grand Sport race cars start at around $120,000.
The official legal blessing from Mrs. Duntov helped lay the groundwork for becoming an official GM
licensed product by 2009. Having the GM license allowed Duntov Motors to be able to partner with
Superformance to give them the exclusive right to build and sell street versions of the Duntov Motors
Grand Sports.
Superformance was already successfully building Cobra and GT40 replica cars that are built to look like
the originals. The workmanship and attention to detail, as well as being able to custom tailor a car to the
owner’s preferences, is well known. Duntov Motors has designed the chassis so that any of GM’s crate
engines can be easily used—anything from a 350hp ZZ4 iron crate engine to an all-aluminum LS9 with
638 horsepower. While we all love big power numbers, 350 h.p in a 2,500-pound car yields a power-toweight ratio of 7.14:1. Using an LS9 lowers the ratio to just over 3.9:1. With one of the Duntov 850hp
aluminum big-blocks, the ratio is pounded down to an insane 2.94:1!
The Duntov Motors race cars are essentially period correct, with all the bugs worked out as if Chevrolet
and Duntov had been able to hone and develop the Grand Sport.
But even all fixed-up, the car still delivers a 1960s race car experience. Those power-to-weight ratios read
sexy, but the car is riding on tires that are only around 9 inches wide. Controlled drifting is the proper
driving style for a race car such as this, if the driver has the nerve. It’s totally different from racing a
modern car with very wide, very sticky tires.
Alan Sevadjian shared an insight into the original Grand Sports. Most stories about the original cars make
mention of the dreaded front-end lift that some drivers claimed made the front wheels come off the
ground, or at least made the steering feel “floaty” at speed.
However, Zora was okay with that because it provided more weight transfer and helped with traction on
the over-powered car with not enough tire. Well, easy for Zora to say, he wasn’t driving in race car
traffic. The other common complaint about the original cars was instability under braking.
Remember, the original Grand Sports never got the development they needed and some of the suspension
parts were inadequate.
When drivers hit the big Girling disc brakes, the A-arms flexed, and the car literally leaped sideways!
Those same components are now built with thicker chrome-moly steel, eliminating the problem.

What’s next for the Duntov Motor Company? Before Zora’s Grand Sport
project came to a screeching halt thanks to Mr. Donner’s decision to reject
Knudsen’s request for the Corvette to be exempt from the “No Racing” ban,
Duntov was planning to take a team of Grand Sports to race at Le Mans.
So, the Duntov Motor Company has built two Grand Sports intended for
Le Mans. The first is already at the Callaway operation in Germany, with a
team working to get homologation certification.
Hopefully, we’ll see the first ever appearance of a Grand Sport Corvette at
the 2016 Le Mans race. Zora and Elfi would be thrilled!

and weather will be amazing! I am sure that many of the clubs are making plans for the
2016 show season and I want to make sure that Charleston, SC is on your list.
We will have Nine Classes including all generations and the addition of a C7 Z06 class.
We will be offering Peoples Choice Judging as well as Scored Judging this year. To
enter the Scored Judging there will an additional fee of $5.00 and you can enter both
portions of the show. There will be show pins, more than Forty plaques plus trophies for
Best of Show, Best Engine, Best Interior, Best Paint, along with door prizes. In addition
there will be vendors and National Corvette Museum items for sale. THIS YEAR’S
