Magyar Bál Hungarian Ball 2012
Your Support
This evening is a Thank You to all those who assisted our troop in its early years, and a
way to continue the support of this worthwhile cause. The proceeds of the evening will
help to defray the costs of our camps as well as going towards scouts supplies. It will
support the participation of our scouts in annual training programs, the summer
leadership camp in Fillmore, and the Homecoming trip to Hungary for our new patrol
leaders (ÖV-körút).

About the Gábor Bodnár Scout Troop
2012
Our troop was named after Mr. Gábor Bodnár, one of the founding fathers of Hungarian
scouting in exteris. His extensive work is the basis of the scout work we do in our troop
today. We remember him on the 15th anniversary of his passing and our troop would
like to dedicate this Ball to his memory.
Though our troop is fairly young, Hungarian Scouting is not new to Boston. In the 1970s
a troop named after Cout István Tisza enjoyed some years of success. A quarter of a
century later, a new group of enthusiastic parents and scout leaders worked to restart
the scouting program. Thanks to their efforts, the troop was soon officially accepted by
the Hungarian Scout Association in Exteris and given the prestigious troop number 2- a
number second in value only to that of the executive leaders of the Association. Today,
the troop has grown to become a vital presence in the local Hungarian community. More
than eighty scouts, organized into 12 patrols, participate in biweekly meetings, led by a
core group of mostly locally-trained junior and senior leaders. Our troop, the Kettesek, is
a mixed boys-girls troop, with members coming from four different states. We are
continually strengthening our ties with the local Hungarian community and with regional
centers of scouting activity, hosting and participating in activities with scouts from New
York, Garfield, New Brunswick, Washington, and Montreal.
