Kindergarten has settled in amazingly well and are loving working with their Yr 6 buddies. This will continue throughout the year and we will be focusing on building positive relationships amongst our students as well as supporting learning in the early years. While we have had a demountable classroom removed this term, we have had some good news. A new building will be added to our school. The plans for our new toilet block have been submitted to council and we are eagerly awaiting details regarding a starting date for construction. Student Success - 16 students have been selected to have their artworks entered into the Hawkesbury Show this year. - 22 students competed at the Small Schools Basketball Gala Day, with 4 making the combined Small Schools Team. We came second in our pool with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. We were knocked out in the semi finals but all students involved in the Basketball Gala days have done Kurrajong East PS proud. - 20 students competed in the Small Schools Swimming Carnival with Daniel L being Page 1 named Small Schools Senior Champion. 5 students made it to the District Swimming Carnival. - Jack D has been successful in making the NSW Polocrosse team. - Ike W has been selected for the District Rugby League team. - Our School Leaders attended a regional leadership camp where they had the opportunity to further develop their leadership skills in public speaking, as well as having the opportunity to conquer their fears on the high ropes course. Upcoming events In term 2, all students from K-6 will be involved in the AFL Auskick program. It's is a free program and will, for 6 weeks, make up a component of our Friday school sport program. If you have not already done so, could you please return the permission note attached to this newsletter. If your son or daughter is not participating, could you please contact your child's teacher as soon as possible. As part of our school dance program, Miss Elise will be running K-2 dance sessions on Mondays. We hope all children have the opportunity to participate and have kept costs low to support this. Farewell Mrs Tchadovitch For 6 years Vera Tchadovitch has been a much loved member of our school. Her care for the students, staff and the Kurrajong East community has been very much appreciated over this time. She has been appointed to Maraylya PS starting in term 2. While Mrs Rowe is taking leave during the first 3 weeks of next term, Vera will be filling in. Please take this opportunity to pass on your thanks for all of her hard work over her time with us, and wish her good luck at her new school. On behalf of the staff and students at Kurrajong East PS, we wish her all the best.
