Leisure activities
& Relaxation
50% of the Eure’s cultural heritage is to be found in the Vexin Norman
region. One can regularly enjoy events in castles, abbeys and museums.
This region is a protected conservation area offering very pleasant
landscapes.
The valleys of the Epte (classified), the Levrière (listed) and the Troesne
are lush and green, perfect for relaxing. There are numerous quality cycle
and pedestrian paths. Anglers will be delighted with the region’s many
rivers and lakes. Horse riding, either as a leisure or sport activity plays a
very important part in the region. All of the above activities, including the
leisure parks, offer services adapted to children.

Heritage & Tradition
SAINT-DENIS-LE-FERMENT
The Levrière river winds its way to this
small village. In the past, it was part of
the seven towns of Bleu, located in the
forest of the same name. Discover the
Church constructed in the 12th and
13th centuries and its charming pink
brick entrance topped by slates and
the tower which gives exceptional
character to this village.
NEAUFLES-SAINT-MARTIN
At the side of the road one catches sight
of this pierced cross known as the
Templar. Built during the 12th century, it
was certainly used as a boundary stone
for the territory. The houses in this
village are scattered along the sloping
streets among gardens and orchards.
The dungeon that we can see is situated in a private meadow. From the bottom of this very romantic ruin you have
a pleasant view of the Levrière valley.
THE COLLEGIATE CHURCH OF ECOUIS
The collegiate church of Notre Dame
de l’Assomption, which you are free
to visit, was built by Enguerrand de
Marigny, Chancellor of the Exchequer
for Philippe le Bel. There is a statue
of exceptional quality which still
magnificently decorates the inside of
this building.
18
LYONS LA FORÊT, PRETTIEST VILLAGE IN FRANCE
The village of Lyons, one of the most
beautiful villages in France, was built
on the site of a 12th century fortified
castle. The covered 18th century
market is situated in the village centre
and is a lively place. The state-owned
forest, stretched over more than
10700 hectares, is certainly the most
beautiful beech forest in Europe.
SAINT-CLAIR-SUR-EPTE
In 911, the treaty of Saint-Clair-Sur-Epte took
place between the French King Charles III
(known as the Simple) and the Dane Rollon.
The King bestowed to the leader of the Vikings
the territory between the Epte and the sea
(future duchy of Normandy) in exchange for
an end to pillaging. On one of the houses
which is located near the church, there is a
plaque devoted “to the ancestors by the
grateful Normans” which recalls the solemn
act which marked the birth of Normandy.
THE COVERED PATH IN DAMPSMESNIL
The oldest artist in the Vexin Normand
region must be the one who, 6000
years ago, engraved oval signs at the
entrance to this covered path. The
signs depict a funerary and a fertile
goddess.
