Windsong Radiology Group has been awarded a three year term of accreditation for Breast MRI Imaging by the American College of Radiology. Windsong Radiology Group is the first in Western New York and among the first in the nation to receive this new accreditation by ACR. Windsong Radiology Group’s main office on Spindrift Drive in Williamsville received the accreditation in early October, and our Hamburg office on Camp Road received the ACR accreditation in November. The American College of Radiology launched BMRAP Accreditation program in May of this year for the first time. “Windsong Radiology Group’s participation in the voluntary ACR Breast MRI accreditation program is one more step in our never-ending commitment to the highest q u a l i t y patient care,” according to Toni Riley, Technical G e n e r a l Manager. W WNY HEALTHeLINK indsong Radiology Group began submitting patient records and reports electronically through Western New York’s clinical information exchange in August 2010. It is anticipated that up to 300,000 radiology reports from Windsong Radiology will be shared through the clinical information exchange on an annual basis adding to the millions of reports already being shared among health providers. “Windsong is the first independent radiology practice to join with radiology departments of our region’s major hospitals in supplying radiology information through our region’s clinical information exchange,” said Daniel E. Porreca, executive director, HEALTHeLINK. “Radiology reports are a critical diagnostic tool and having them available to physicians electronically will help improve the quality of patient care and reduce duplicative testing resulting in less radiation exposure to patients.” Among the hospitals in the region whose radiology departments are already sharing information through HEALTHeLINK include Catholic Health System, Erie County Medical Center, Kaleida Health, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Mount St. Mary’s Hospital & Health Center, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, Olean General Hospital, and WCA Hospital in Jamestown. Numerous individual practice are also receiving reports directly into their EMR systems. FALL 2010 Windsong Medical Park 55 Spindrift Drive Williamsville, NY 14221 screening mammography. VOLUME 1 ISSUE 5 Breast Ultrasound requires a skilled operator, and the number of skilled technologists and radiologists are very limited. ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) certified sonographers fill this need for skilled breast sonographers. They must meet established requirements in length and quality of academic and clinical education. They must first verify extensive clinical experience in breast sonography, and must then pass the ARDMS Breast Ultrasound written exam. Together, this demonstrates a high level of competency in the theory and practice of breast ultrasound. This is shown to be most important for quality practice, as demonstrated by a task survey of hundreds of ARDMSRegistered sonographers currently working in the field.
