Kia Orana,
Last week we had one of the lowest
attendance rates for our Year 13
students since the beginning of this
year.
One of the most important things
that students can do to achieve
academic success is to ensure that
they are in school and remain at
school for the entire day.
The commitment that both the school and
parents give to attendance will send a
message to our students that education is
a priority.

TERM 3, WEEK 4
Academic Anau Event
ur second academic anau event will take place
this Friday and all is set for the “Battle of Brains”
competition. Teams from each anau will compete in year
levels with a number of categories — Social Science; Mathematics; Cook Islands Maori and Arts; Sports and Health;
English; Commerce and Technology; Science and General
Knowledge. Competition will be fierce as
each anau look to topple anau TE KOU who
are currently sitting on
top of the leaders table.

Commonwealth Youth Games. Taiki
Paniani (pictured) and Ngametua
Tera will be joining Teiti-o-te-ra
Tupuna in Samoa for the event. Both Paniani and Tera
will be competing in the lawns bowling competition with
Tupuna an integral part of the sevens team.

World Literacy Day
number of budding musicians have put their talents on
display and created a jingle in support of world literacy
day which is to be celebrated next week. Along with
the talented Mr Fabian Roberts, Sakaria Simpson (lead vocals),
Mana Ariki, Harry Napa, Rakomn Marsters, Jonah Ezekiela, Ruby Aitken, Jovina Piiti, Temarama Arthur, Lynn Mataora, Makayla Ibbetson, Reese Teariki, Ruby Fletcher-Vea, Jewel Holford,
Jonelle Trego, Faustina Ufamarata and Marise Noovao recorded
the jingle “Read with Me”.
Working in a small recording studio at school, these students got
to experience the world of the working musician, recording, perNewsletters are emailed out forming, editing a jingle. Using their talents by singing in small
groups and as individuals they helped put together a song that
each week to parents/
caregivers and are available promotes world literacy day here in beautiful Rarotonga. Literacy

C.I. Road Safety Summit
Initially we thought this was just another school program, until we
entered the Crown Beach boardroom. This was a Big Deal, we were
nominated as ambassadors for our school as the voice for our
generation in the development of a Cook Islands Road Safety Strategy
and Action Plan. We were divided into 5 groups (environmental, social,
vehicle & equipment, human and physical) and asked to discuss and
provide our views on what to do during;

Pre-crash; Crash; Post-Crash
Yes, we were ready for this, we dove in right away without hesitation
and addressed the problems within our communities in particular
alcohol, speed, helmets and young people and how we can prevent and
eliminate deaths on our roads.
We got the opportunity to share our thoughts on what we could do to
alert our generation on what we need to do to protect ourselves and
our community.
We stressed the importance of valuing us teenagers and our opinions,
to support us and remove negative put downs. This was a valuable
experience, one I am very thankful for being a part of. Although it was
quite nerve wrecking at first, mainly because I was thinking “what if
they don’t think much of what we say?” Those nerves were quickly
replaced with confidence because the adults heard and accepted our
views. At one point it was relatively boring, but nothing a bit of coffee
and food couldn’t fix. To end this report a word for us Youth “We Only
Live Once” every decision we make has a
consequence so, let’s make wise ones. Speed and
drunk driving isn’t Cool it is a Recipe for cutting
your life short or altering your quality of life. The
loss of a loved one through speeding and or drunk
driving is an avoidable Tragedy.

ur end of year senior practise examinations are an important part of course programmes. Results gained give students an indication of how well they are tracking towards the external
examinations held in November. Practise external grades are also used for subject and overall placings for our end of year senior prize-giving. Examinations will be held in the Princess
Anne Hall unless otherwise stated. Any clashes please see Mrs Ngaau.
