Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve NEWSLETTER 14 May 2015 -‐ Issue 13 May 18 – Year 7/8 Technology Well done to all the children who gave it a go last Thursday at our Interhouse Cross-Country. It was so good to see how the pupils encouraged each other and never gave up. This was the closest result we have ever had, with Cameron and Elderslie sharing the overall honours. 18 – BOT Meeting 20 – E-‐Zone X-‐Country, Browns 22 – Building Naming 22 – Disco 22 – Scholastic Order Closes June 1 – Queen’s Birthday On Monday we have a board meeting starting at 6pm for anyone interested in attending. I do encourage families to come along and you will see how the school works from a new lens. 12 – Central X-‐Country Yr 7/8 have technology next week so will be picked up from school at 8.45am and dropped back at school before 3pm. 19 – Southland X-‐Country On Monday I took a group of young leaders to Dunedin to the NYLD//15 Leadership day. They had a ball and really took heaps from what the presenters and speakers had to say. They will be presenting their experience at assembly next week starting at 2pm. On Wednesday the whole school will be taking part in the E-Zone Cross Country at Browns starting at 1pm. Parents are more than welcome to collect their children once they have run. For those who can’t, the school bus will be running as normal. I do encourage you to come and support your children on the day; this really does give them a boost. “I want my children to have all the things I couldn’t afford. We will miss you! Trent Tokana – for amazing thinking around solving problems up to 100! Room 2: Olivia Montgomery – for a big effort in literacy! Charlie Robson – for a good effort with schoolwork and homework this week. Keep it up! Hello from Room 4! On Monday Madie, Lily, Jess and I and also Mr Page went up to Dunedin for the National Young Leaders Day. We met inspiring people such as William Pike, Tamsin Cooper, Chris Jupp, Steve Gurney, Phoenix, Sarah and Sam (head boys and head girl from Columba College) they all gave us very inspiring speeches about leadership. Jamie McDell was there as well, she gave us a speech on her career and even performed for us! HOUSE POINTS Cameron 1980 Elderslie 1320 Forest Hill 1320 McNeil 1020 Meanwhile in room 4 we are working our tails off on our literacy contracts and maths contracts as well. For inquiry we are still learning about 1st Place Getters - House Cross Country WW1 and WW2, we have been looking at what clothing and equipment was used in war. We are so excited for the DISCO next week and also the up coming E- Zone cross country! Don’t forget! Please return payment or unsold books to school ASAP thank you. Cheques are to be payable to Lochiel School Network. The school makes $12 for every book sold so please sell as many as you can. LSN had a quick meeting yesterday and we have decided to donate some money towards new blinds in room’s 4 &5, Polyfest uniforms and sandpit toys so keep an eye out for these. Please keep Friday 26th June free, as we will be holding a function for Mr Page. More details to follow.
