This pattern may not be reproduced or distributed without permission from the designer. Directions Using a long tail cast on, 3mm circular needle and yarn A , cast on 128 stitches. Join for working in the round, being careful not to twist your stitches. Place stitch marker to indicate beginning of round. (A tutorial for a long tail cast on can be found here http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/cast-on) Work in twisted rib (see notes) for 24 rows or until work measures approximately 2 ½”/6cm Knit one row, transferring stitches to larger (3.75mm)needle. *Working with Yarns A and B held together, knit 12 rows. Cut yarn B.** Working in Yarn A only, knit 12 rows. # Repeat from * to # once, then from * to ** once more. (Your hat should now measure approximately 9 ¼”/24 from the cast on edge. If your work is too short, you may need to continue working in pattern until you reach the desired length.) Crown shaping (worked in Yarn A only)Rounds 1 and 2 – knit Materials – 2 x 50g skeins SWTC Vespera (yarn A) 1 x 50g cone SWTC String Me Along (yarn B) 3mm, 16”/40cm circular needle 3.75mm, 16”/40cm circular needle 3.75mm DPNs OR 3mm and 3.75mm circular needles 32”/80cm or longer if you prefer to work in magic loop Stitch marker Tapestry needle for sewing in ends Gauge25sts /10cm (after blocking) Round 3- k2, k2tog, repeat to end of round (96 stitches) Rounds 4 and 5- knit Round 6- k1, k2tog, repeat to end of round (64 stitches) (if working on 16” circulars, you might find it necessary to transfer your work to DPNs at this point) Round 7- knit One size fits most (up to a ladies’ large/56cm) Stitch Patterns usedTwisted rib – ktb1, p1 across Round 8 – k2tog, repeat to end of round (32 stitches) Round 9 – knit Round 10 – k2tog, repeat to end of round (16 stitches) Abbreviations usedKtb1- knit one stitch, working into the back loop of the stitch Round 11 – k2tog, repeat to end of round (8stitches) Cut yarn and with tapestry needle, thread through the remaining stitches. Sew in all other ends (we found it easier to cut the sequins off the String Me Along before weaving in) Wash and block lightly for extra slouch. Enjoy! Other notes - we have added a 2”/5cm pompom to the top of our hat, this is completely optional. Yarn amounts given include enough to make the pompom also.
