“KOZAK CUP” Over the past 25 years, Wally’s love of teaching and coaching has taken him worldwide. He has coached at every level of hockey and has produced numerous articles and videos for Hockey Canada on player development. His number of accolades began as a player for 4 seasons with University of Saskatchewan Huskies. Following graduation, he entered the Western Canadian Senior League with the Saskatoon Quakers. This was short lived as he quickly was recruited to the Canadian National Team. Following a successful year with Team Canada, the NHL intervened and introduced professionals into the fold. Wally then continued his playing career with a Pro-tryout with the Chicago Blackhawks and was assigned to their affiliate, the Flint Generals. The following two seasons were spent with the Calgary Stampeders. His coaching career started as a skills coach with Dave King’s 1988 Olympic team, and has coached in 3 Spengler Cups in Switzerland. He has also had numerous coaching advisor terms including the German U- 18 program in 1999-2000, as well as the Junior, Senior and Women’s National Programs in Japan (1995-1998) in preparation for 1998 Nagano Olympics. Next up, Wally was the assistant coach with Hockey Canada’s gold medal winning Women’s National Team at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. Finally, Wally moved into the role as Head Scout and Manger of Player Development for Hockey Canada where he was tasked with writing curriculum for the Program of Excellence (POE), and preparing our National teams for international competition. Since leaving Hockey Canada, Wally has dedicated himself to serve “the good of the game,” by bringing his knowledge and experience to compliment programs across Canada, which are designed to take coaches and players to the next level. Wally’s philosophy of developing people through sport is enhanced with his dedication to all levels of hockey. Wally Kozak is currently the acting Director of Coach Development for P3 Sports. Wally has brought years of experience and a wealth of knowledge to the P3 Sports Hockey Programs, and plays an integral role as lead coach mentor with our Spring Hockey Coaches.
