Meet Kailyn VanNorstrand
Assistant Director
Welcome back! My name is Kailyn
VanNorstrand and I am the new Assistant
Director of Project REACH. I came to
Cazenovia College as a writing instructor
and am pleased to have this new position in
addition to my classes! I have an M.S. in
Adolescent and Early Adult Literacy from
Syracuse University, and I live a few miles
outside of Cazenovia. I am excited for the
activities that we have planned and for the
new opportunities that we can develop.
Please don’t hesitate to search me out for
support. I can help with reading
comprehension across subject areas,
writing, note taking, academic/professional
communication skills, time management,
study skills, ESL support, and general
advising.
Best wishes for the coming semester and I
hope to meet you all soon!
Meet Kayle Light
Academic Coordinator
Hi, my name
is Kayle Light,
and I am so
pleased to be
the new Academic Coordinator for Project
REACH! My employment at Cazenovia
College began in March, 2013 in the
Enrollment Services Department, so I may
be familiar to some of you. I grew up
here in Cazenovia, and I lived in NYC for
my first job opportunity after college. I
received my B.A. in Public Relations from
SUNY Oswego in 2011 and will receive my
M.A. in Higher Education Administration
from SUNY Stony Brook in August. As the
Academic Coordinator, I am available to
help students with time management,
study skills and financial literacy. I will
also coordinate the Peer Mentor program
and look forward to joining you on our
many cultural events. In my spare time, I
enjoy being outside and playing with my
two dogs, Zoey and Nala.
Bobbi Jo Hannon, a Human Services major with a specialization in
children and youth, is excited to be interning at Jowonio Preschool in
Syracuse this semester. She will be working with preschool-age children
who are developmentally disabled and children without disabilities.
Alex Hazard, Valarie Mudrie, Steven Ochoa, Rachel Palmer and
Samantha Young, traveled to Quito, Equador for a weeklong Alternative
Breaks project. The group spent their time at the Working Boys’ Center,
volunteering in the classroom as well as painting and building projects.
Welcome back to Ellen Boone, Sonja Skalecki and Ashley Thayer
who spent the Fall semester in Canterbury!
Junior Haley Zambito set the all-time Cazenovia College
women's basketball record for three-pointers made in a
career. Congratulations, Haley!
New Year’s Resolutions, Anyone?
Nicholas Morciglio made a New Year’s Resolution

ABC trip to Ecuador
Last month, I traveled with Alternative Breaks at Caz Club (ABC) to
Ecuador, an amazing place. The landscape was breathtaking, however
among all of the beauty, the poverty was heart-wrenching. We toured
homes of some of our co-workers at the Working Boys Center. They
were nothing like the luxurious homes in the United States. They had
mud floors, tin roofs, and had no running water.
My co-workers in Ecuador were happy to be a part of the Center, and
had strength to carry on, despite their circumstances. I will never forget
a woman I met as I was shadowing a volunteer in an adult math class.
She was about the same age as my mother, and was struggling with
simple addition. She had the most difficult time adding 2+1, but she
never gave up. The hope I saw in that woman has changed my life.
I believe everyone should take advantage of opportunities at Cazenovia College, whether it is
volunteering locally or abroad. Not only do you learn a lot about another country and how people
live, but you also learn a lot about yourself.
