and performing a traditional Scottish Gaelic song along with Ingrid
Henderson.
Anne has been performing and researching Gaelic song since a child,
having been born and brought up in Trotternish on the Isle of Skye. She has released two albums, one as a solo artiste and
the other as a duo with Ingrid Henderson.

AGA – Atlantic Gaelic Academy – Doing well on Twitter and Facebook

Friends of the Gaelic,
The Atlantic Gaelic Academy is pleased to report that they have reached a milestone, and that is there are now over 300 people
worldwide following the AGA on Twitter. This puts it into a select category on Twitter.
The AGA started on Twitter with zero followers a year ago, sending messages on Gaelic news to its followers. In addition, it started
sending out weekly Gaelic phrases, which included the Gaelic and English for phrases, and also the appropriate pronunciation. The AGA
was the first to use Twitter for this purpose, and it has become a very popular feature with its followers.
If you want to follow the AGA on Twitter and learn a little Gaelic at no cost, do the following:
(1) For those of you who are already on Twitter, our page is Learn_Gaelic.
(2) If you don’t belong to Twitter, go to www.twitter.com . Look for the box “New to Twitter” and click on “Get started now”, and follow
the instructions. Then go to the AGA page at Learn_Gaelic.
The AGA also recently joined Facebook, and the same Gaelic phrases are now shown on its Facebook page. For those of you who wish to
follow the AGA on Facebook and are currently on Facebook, search for Atlantic Gaelic Academy and join the page.
If you are not currently on Facebook, go to www.facebook.com , and follow the instructions under “Sign Up”. Then, as above, search for
Atlantic Gaelic Academy and join the page.

Parents calls for a dedicated Gaelic School

With future plans for Gaelic medium education in the city being considered by the council, parents are are calling for
a dedicated Gaelic primary school

Representatives of the Comann nam Parant Dhun Eideann, the support group for parents of children in Gaelic medium
education in the Edinburgh and Lothian area, came to the council today to call for a dedicated primary school for children
learning the language.
The deputation came to the Education, Children and Families committee, where they were reviewing a report about the future
of Gaelic education in the city, which is expected to grow significantly over the next few years.
Tollcross Primary School, which has a highly successful Gaelic unit, is now considered to have reached full capacity. It has
grown from just seven pupils in 1998, to 132, with six dedicated Gaelic classes and a seventh being proposed for August.
The two options being considered by the committee are to establish a second GME unit at Leith Walk Primary School, or to
refurbish and refit the old Bonnington Primary School premises as a dedicated GME primary school - resulting in the closure
of the Tollcross GME unit.
Top Gaelic agency role for Western Isles health board chief

A Health board chief who helped turn around the financial status of an NHS board is leaving his post to help promote the
Gaelic language. John Angus MacKay, who has been chairman of NHS Western Isles for more than three years, is to
become chief executive of the Gaelic development agency Bòrd na Gàidhlig in September.
Mr MacKay, who is in the fourth year of a four-year term at the health board, is part of the team which improved a troubling
financing position which had led to criticism from MSPs.
Last year the Scottish Parliament's audit committee highlighted weak financial management under a previous regime and
criticised a former chairman and chief executive.
The board was later given a £3 million long-term loan from the Scottish Government to help pay off its debts.
Angus McCormack, the board's vice-chairman, yesterday said: "From a position of real difficulty only four years ago, John
Angus has led the board to a position where its governance is strong … and the board is on course to securing its aspiration
to offer the best rural health care in Scotland."

Gàidhlig aig Baile workshops are fun, relaxed and interactive. The focus is on
improving participants' ability to speak and understand Gaelic in an immersion
setting. Activities such as role plays, baking, cooking, household activities, crafts will
be employed to convey "language while doing". These workshops are suitable for
learners at all levels, no experience required.
This workshop will take place at Stacey MacLean's house at 25 Bumpy Lane, Lake
Echo and will run from 10:00am to 3:00pm with instruction by Stacey. Lunch and tea
breaks will be provided. $25

A weekend of Gaelic classes will take place at Àite nan Gàidheal in downtown
New Glasgow on June 19 and June 20. These immersion classes will be
taught at the Beginner 2/Intermediate level.
The course will employ a variety of common activities and conversation topics
to help students develop a greater command of the language and greater
ease in conversing in a variety of social settings.

The workshop participants will identify messages that can be promoted provincewide to build a strong and unified voice for Gaelic Nova Scotia. The event is hosted
by the Gaelic Council of Nova Scotia - Comhairle na Gàidhlig, with the support of the
NS Office of Gaelic Affairs.
All are welcome to attend: 1 pm on Saturday June 26 at the Civic Centre in Port
Hawkesbury.
